@Jarbloko Yes, this question bothers me for many years too. I even tried to play the game in MAME to get to the ending but there was (still is?) some bug in the game so it's impossible to finish one of the early levels. 105 is nice, I think I never got to 100. Anyway, this game is fantastic!
I should also mention there are options at the "shop" screen where you can "give friend key" or give money (iirc) to the other player, etc. So there are voluntary ways you can work as a "team." The game is a lot easier with two players. If one person dies, they have to start the map over again, but if the other player still lives, they spawn in on the same floor.
I loved this game. The controller was octagonal, and one had to rotate it to turn while slapping the fire button with the other hand. The first 3-D that I can remember.
@insolence well, your shots can stun or hurt each other, so as long as you avoid shooting each other, yes, you can work together in this game. There's no special mode for it, you just have to consciously do so. The only thing is that you exit the level seperately, so you each have to find an exit.
This is a doubly retro game as I remember it being fairly retro when it came out as it really captured the 1950's Dan Dare / Flash Gordan genre.
I remember it being a very stylish game with possibly more basic graphics than other games of the time. Possibly to maintain this feel. A real classic.
simply sweet, thanks for the upload, and i will pay attention, great game, that would have been better if it could have stayed gauntlet 3, intainlly this is what this game was supposed to be... still turned out to be a great game...
When my grandparents used to own this bar and restaurant in Cooperopolis, CA, this was one of the arcade games they had there. My cousins and I used to play this game constantly.
I used to play all the time at Blimpie subs in the 80s, alongside golden axe. Yeah, those were the days of trapper keepers, g.i.joe, and avengers comics.
that's how gears of war would look like in the 80s lolz

If they didn't draw the man you played with, then they would have made the first fps-game in history.

I loved this game in the early '90s.
Now that I see it again, it reminds me a lot of Vindicators.

this game was not boring, and this was one of the best arcade games back in the 80s.
