@Unholybuilder53 Not precisely. The pilot was already pulling up away from the race, since he sensed something wrong with his craft. A trim tab, in and of itself cannot keep the plane level. That is the job of the elevator. The trim tab helps the pilot do the fine tuning, with respect to holding the plane at a given attitude.

Interesting commenter beahvior. The aircraft experienced severe turbulence. (likely flew through someone elses propwash) The elevator trim tab failed. The pilot experienced a severe reaction, and high "G" load from this, (tail wheel came out) and lost consiousness. (a P-51 can fly without this trim tab with a concious pilot) This was a freak accident. Interesting "thud" sound from the impact.
