  • Gavin - Happy New Year! Many thanks for this quick, precise, and easy to follow tutorial. I finally made my first time lapse with Lightroom. Cheers!

  • Hey Gavin... Does the timelapse templates work for MAC?!?!?! :)

  • is there a way this software to pan across the movie frame??

  • Hey Gavin great video I have a question though. I am think about shooting a time lapse of some city lights turning on as the sun goes down. Do you recommend a setting to use. I know I am supposed to put my camera in Aperture priority and I was going to do 5 second intervals over around 30 mins or so and play it back at 30 fps. I am just not sure what Aperture to use and ISO speed. Thanks!

  • I live on the Norfolk

    broads! brilliant landscape photography material

  • Thank you for the tutorial. It works fine. I just created one timelapse today.

  • thank you very much for the tutorial, how can I add an audio to my video?

  • @BassamAlharbi With a video editing program such as Movie maker, Premiere or Sony Vegas.

  • Comment removed

  • @BassamAlharbi try windows movie maker. when u have the video file u should be able to put an audio underneeth

  • @BassamAlharbi ..easy deasy: just get a video program editor like corel video pro4 or say,Power director, or just use the editor that came with vista or win 7 like MS Movie Maker Live II or iMovie in apple's OS suite. Make sure your mike, --a good USB digital mike from someone like Logitech will do!-- or just use your mobile and, record there if you must, save to mp3 or wav and import that but, there are options to record live narration as well , in the programs and adust volume and trim.Easy!

  • @BassamAlharbi

    with sony vegas for example

  • @BassamAlharbi There is a "Soundtrack" button in the playback section. Or at least there is in the Lightroom 4 beta...

  • @BassamAlharbi To add audio to your timelapse video, you need to import your rendered video into an editing program such as Windows Movie Maker or iMovie 11. And from there on you add the music =)

  • Awesome video! I am going to go buy a new tripod and give it a shot ...

  • Hey guys, i need a littel bit of community advice.

I am looking to get a remote switch for my 600D, but i'm not sure which would be compatible. I am currently looking at the RS-60E3, will this work?

    Cheers in advance.

  • very useful this tutorial

  • I cant import the preset files...please help me. :)

  • @CakestheCheese

I've had the same problem. It looks like my software for unzippin was to blame. I tried a different one and had no errors.

  • @kocbaya63

Well, it turns out i was importing the preset to the Develop section of Light room, not the Slideshow section. XD

  • are you using an external microphone gavin ? and what camera are you using to record this

  • Thanks!!!!

  • trying to download the zip file and it gives errors trying to uncompress it. love your videos, is there a new version of file? or can you send me the zip file that works?

  • Hi Gav.. I was gonna get one of these inverlatometers when I watched this video as I was keen to give it a go...What put me off was the price of the one you had was £45-50.. But since I have discovered one that looks like yours but with a different brand name from an online auction site for around £15.. here goes.......

  • hey Gavin what kind of music can i play during the timelapse video and how did u do it

  • Comment removed

  • Very well done Gavin,cheers .

  • DOUBLE VIDEO ALL THE WAY! :D

  • Its very helpful but when i set the 24fps user template LR3 set the capture crop to fit and the video no more 16-9 widescreen!!!!!!!!

  • this is very interesting,...tnk u for sharing.

  • Hi Gavin. Thanks for the helpful video.

I was wondering, do you know of any wireless remotes which - when pressed - communicate to a mounted unit on the camera which physically pushes the shutter button on a camera?

  • Dear gavin the link to the lightroom presets is unable to download, could you please give me the presets, since i'd like to try to make this time lapse video.. Thank you very muchh

    Regards

    Stuart

  • nice one. cheers!

  • good stuff, experiment tomorrow in preparation for a huge job, thanks very much

  • this is brilliant - it really helped me! thanks :D

  • You have NO IDEA how helpful this video is.

I was using Photoshops Actions (where you have to record the routine of your edit), followed by Batching Processing to edit the frames, then Final Cut to edit the frames into a video.

Way to complicated with mixed results.

I can't wait to try this method!

    THANK YOU!

  • Thanks PhotoGavin!

  • amazing tutorial.. loved it keep it up..

  • Thank's^^I am starting and big help from You^^

  • Could you maybe do video on how to clean a tripod because i would to go to beaches and suchlike but i am too scared in case i waste my tripod? Please

  • thx, aspecially the combi with lightroom!!

  • one of the best video tutorial. Thanks

  • Will the DNG files still retain all the information that the RAW files have?

  • Gavin - i only have lightroom 2, and it will not allow me to open RAW files.. am i missing something?

  • @malcha1000 Yes, you're missing lightroom 3. Failing that download the free DNG converter from Adobe. It will change your RAW files to DNG files which are compatible with LR2.

  • @malcha1000 emmmmm what? I am a lightroom user from the very beginning and i don't remember LR not be able to work with RAW... Maybe some particular RAW format from the camera released afterwards, but not RAW in general :D

  • thanks for sharing & helping to teach....

  • Let us share the resources about photograph with each other

  • Hi, I would just like to say that your video's are really informative, well filmed, are always interesting and I learn loads in every video! Thanks for making them and please keep up the good work!

  • hello , i have a canon 7D , do i need the controller thing ?

  • @E3ZOOBEY Yes,all EOS camera need the "timer thing" lol

  • @E3ZOOBEY no you dont. i just made one today and didnt use one. i used a wired shutter release but the time thing you dont need but it makes it easier.

  • hi gavin did you get a new microphone

  • GREAT Tutorial :D sooo if things are going slow like we take one shot every 5 secs for example , but if things so rapid ...we take i per second ? :D

  • One of the best tutorials I've ever seen. Thank you.

  • Amazing!!! thanks Gavin!

  • Thank you ;)

  • I've been looking for one of these tutorials forever! Thanks so much!

  • The shirt makes this video lol love it

  • Just what I was looking for! Many thanks for this well done tutorial Gavin. Cheers!

  • Love it!!

  • I reckon this is Horsey wind Pump..........Beautiful area.

    Great video BTW !!

  • Adam Lerner also maked a video like this a week before you. But I have to say... This one is better

  • You also can do this with a Canon and a Laptop with the EOS utility! So don't get discouraged canonites!

  • Gavin: you can buy camera with miniature effect??

  • your the man to the rescue always.. really appreciate your vidoes

  • If your timelapse shots are flickering, I found this nice freeware tool you can use with lightroom, photoshop or bridge to deflicker it. They also have presets for LR, not just 24fps but 30 as well.

  • Great videos indeed... I love your stream! I am a newbie to photography and would like to seek your advice on my all rounder lens. In your opinion should it be the 24-70 f/2 L or the one you use i.e. 24-105 f/4 L. Do you find the f/4 limiting in any way when you are shooting? Better even, is it possible for you to do a video comparing the two?

  • Great video Gavin but are you not supposed to drag the shutter with a Timelapse?

  • Canon users do not necessary need an intervallometer.

The canon utility provides an intervall function while controlling your camera with your computer or notebook.

  • i didn't know you could sync the pictures! really cool tip Gavin! thanks, lovely tutorial! cheers from Forks, WA usa, twilight town ;)

  • Thanks Gavin. It's very, very very much informative !

  • Wow! The final result is brilliant.

  • great video Gavin, very illustrative, thanks from México

  • thank you Gavin -- greetings from Poland

  • Can I save all those pictures at the same time, because I assemble my time-lapses at QuickTime Pro, thanks in advance

  • What can I say that hasn't been said. Great teacher and service. What a gracious person.

  • Very clear tutorial.

  • manual? wouldn't you want aperture priority so if the light changes you won't have exposure issues?

  • @maximumdosile exactly that was my comment below =)

  • Brilliant tutorial, thank you.

  • i think its better to use APERTURE PRIORITY rather than MANUAL MODE, light conditions vary (like doing it during twilight).

  • @reynanrocks During twilight Aperture Priority is indeed the mode to use, but I was shooting in the middle of the day so I wanted a fixed exposure to maintain sky detail and show the changing light on the land.

  • @PhotoGavin If it is aperture priority or some other semi-auto mod camera gonna try to adjust exposure everytime shadows are entering into the picture, like the ones from clouds here. So your video's exposure change too much and you don't see shadows and exposure differences.

  • @PhotoGavin Wouldn't using aperture priority result in increasingly long exposures as light decreases, leading to inconsistent blurring of objects (more blurred as the sequence progresses)? Better to stick with manual and just let the light fade?

  • Hi Gavin, your videos are a constant source of inspiration and so straight-forward to understand.

    thanks, neil

  • thanks for the upload. i almost spent a ton of money on other software to solely for making time lapse videos. i didn't know that lightroom could do that.

  • You should mention that you can get magiclantern for free on canon cameras which has a built in intravelometer!

  • Thank you for this video. I also have to mention - nice t shirt!

  • Brilliant video, one of the best timelapse instructionals ive seen

  • Gavin - another awesome video! I love watching your tips and then running out to try them myself. I do have a question about post processing: Is there a way in CS5 - Photoshop to make changes to a single image and then apply to the rest of them as you did in this Lightroom tip?

  • @MonkeyPig806 Yes, it's possible to open multiple RAW files in Adobe Camera RAW and apply the changes made to one image to all the images in one go.

  • That tutorial was AWESOME!!! Thanks!

  • another exelent tutorial gavin thx

  • Bravo, Bravo. You my man are Awesome.

  • Always a great pleasure to hear you Gavin. Thanks for this lesson!

  • Gavin, will you ever start to podcast too?

  • YAY, finally someone posted a time lapse video!
