Would love to see Judo and BJJ uniting. They could both gain so much from each other especially considering BJJ preeminence in professional fighting and Judo's Olympic status, amateur and pro. They re two sides to the same coin.
@thomasohare Never - There isn't enough space in a single room for the truth and gracie lies. BJJ "is" Judo, specifically, Judo newaza. Maeda never learned traditional Ju-Jitsu, only Kodokan Judo, so he could never have taught Helio and his brothers anything but Kodokan Judo. When Kano changed the name of his system from Kano Ju-Jitsu to Judo, the gracies should have also changed to Brazilian Judo, but they didn't. Then they insulted Kano by giving stupid spic names to his techniques.
I disagree. BJJ vs KODOKAN Judo yes BJJ for bottum or ground in general. unless well trained.. but BJJ vs KOSEN Judo. its equals. BJJ is just Kosen Judo with a diff name and higher price tag. there is not one move that BJJ has that Judo doesnt.
That may have been the case 70 years ago, but todays bjj is hardly the same. The basic submissions are still the same but the setups und gurdgame has changed alot.
In Kododan compitition rules.. Yes, No legg attacks.. In Kosen Judo Leg attacks are legal. and some kodokan schoolss till teach leg locks.. u just cant use in tourny
@Brazilianjj that´s not true. In bjj we use techniques that didn´t exist just 5 years ago. It´s always evolving. We don´t mind using techniques from judo, sambo or wrestling. If it works then it becomes bjj. I love judo!!!
@criduart Please show me a move thats in BJJ that is NOT in judo? and dont give me all these stupid gaurds... People just put a stupid name on different types of gaurds. its all the same just different positioning
@Brazilianjj Oda-sensei INVENTED jumping guard and he did it with Kano's blessing. BJJ is just a rip-off of Kodokan Judo and the gracies have lied about its origins for decades to line their greedy pockets. Now the truth is coming out. Because they never learned to fight on their feet (atemiwaza), they must fight on the ground. Jon Fitch was right: Wrestlers have cracked the secret of the guard (stacking) and have been beating the crap out of BJJ'ers from inside the guard for 2 years now in MMA.
@sushiman28 or maybe if Judoka did`n focus so much on the Olympics and decided to actually work on their Newaza seriously they would be doing BJJ without ever going to a BJJ school :) PEACE!
I am sorry to inform you, BJJ is a watered down version of Judo's ground game. Please refer to Wiki and type in BJJ. BJJ came from judo. Hate to break it to you.
Well, I was taught all these techniques in my highschool days in the school judo club. The club was traditional but not of elites or specialists or such.
These techniques are nothing special, just basics.
What's important is to keep training and studying with patience, disciplin, and concentration wherever you are.
@Brazilianjj This infuriates me, too. I love all aspects of Judo, but the IJF cares more about the casual olympic viewer. I need more than 5 seconds to set up my Ne Waza effectively.
verdad ese chino mas cochino jaja no tendra kien le meta a el judogui a la lavadora o derrpente tb es cabalero y es de la suerte ese chino de ve oler a loco jaja :P
"Judo's newaza"? WTF do people think "BJJ" is? People who can study and know Japanese anyway. It is a tactical and training emphasis on judo newaza. in essence.
Google "M. Tripp Judo Hisotry" Google "George Mehdi" who studied from Helio and then moved to Japan to study with Kimura sensei.
Glad to see in this video that Japan is preserving ITS culture. If Judo was Chinese there would protests at every Brazilian embassy for offending the Chinese people...... ha.

It's impressive how poor Judo is at setting up things... They show you sankaku-jime's (triangle chokes), but never how to get to them... You watch 1 Carlson Gracie instructional and in 2 seconds he dissects how you get to a triangle.
Doing it is easy, the hard part is setting it up! Judo's newaza will never evolve if they do not focus more on the more sutile aspect of setting up positions on the ground.
Yoshida choking out Royce gracie or the great kimura destroying Helio judo newaza beating BJJ.... BJJ is good and the emphasis on controlled setups is interesting and worth study. but even Roger Gracie cross trains with judo fighters as BOTH can learn from each others styles. (i know the techniques are virtually the same but the emphasis and teaching methods are different)
You seize to amaze me, Sensei Mike! The more I watch the videos, the more I can't wait to finish school to put 100% into training again. Truly inspiring
Honer is mine. Thanx much for coming and training with us. The captain and my father always talk about you for shizzle. Remember, bro? About the promise that you and the captain made? He's serious about it,bro. Hahahaha..I'm on it as well!! This is the greatest movie that I've ever watched b/c I can remember you and have the memories all the time! Thanx much again!! Please send my regards to your family for me!!!

this looks very familiar from ordinary judo... then again, by purely focusing on ne-waza you leave out all the tachi waza techniques
