  • good job!!!!

  • Oh Novell. Wooh I do work on them.

  • beryl ,deskspace

  • the jelly is interesting but gets annoying really quick.. lag when you move is highly unfriendly :)

  • It looks like debian and all that stuff because it uses the GNOME desktop. I think ALL distros can do that if you install a package.

  • you just wanna tell us, that, look, i'm using a linux, that just it.

  • where i am going to download it?

  • try mandriva or ubuntu you can find it on ther websites

  • GrPaoOle, first you must be running linux, and then you could either use your package manager to download Compiz and Compiz-fusion, or if that doesn't work, download the source from the Compiz and Compiz-Fusion sites and install them from source.

  • this was uploaded in 2006 LOL pay attention to video upload dates guy's.... lol

  • I think not. Industrial Light & Magic's render far (the over 3000 processors used to make the CGI for Star Wars Episode 3, Transformers etc) run on LINUX. You have absolutely no God damn idea what on Earth your talking about. So please read some or shut up cause it's embarrassing to read comments written by people like you who talks about something you haven't tested or read anything about. It's like saying a movie is shit when you haven't even watched it.

  • This is just Compiz-fusion. I use it all the time and it's free and actually has a purpose to most of the 'effects'. Snapping windows, multi desktop effects, zoom, expose style desktop management, 'alt tab' variations, taskbar previews, window scaling options, 'minimumise', sorting, grouping.. the list goes fuckin on. Has made my life so much easier LESS the problems with all of it running slow like in Windows Vista.

  • just a side note.

IF this is novell - its not free...

    sorry guys

  • It appears to be Gentoo or Ubuntu with Beryl, and it is completely free, you can download it today if you want to. Opensource operation system.

  • ah, i see ok. Whats with the novel thing at the begining then?

  • InSaneTK, I don't know why you would guess that it was Ubuntu or Gentoo... There's a freakin' Novell logo on the top of the cube; it's probably openSUSE.

  • I know why I would guess it was Ubuntu. Same visual effects with the jelly windows.

  • InSaneTK, the "jelly windows" effect has nothing to do with the Ubuntu project; it is part of the compiz window manager which works on any linux distribution.

  • This technical jargon doesn't change that all Ubuntu desktop videos I've seen have this effect, plus people who use Ubuntu that I know. Now I know this quad-desktop setup with lots of effects is called Beryl or something. But saying it has nothing to do what you SEE if you search Ubuntu on YouTube, your wrong about that. People demonstrates the desktop thingy all the time and without much knowledge about other OSes that would naturally be my first impression.

  • Calm down; I wasn't insulting you or anything. My only point that I'm trying to make is that Compiz and Compiz-Fusion (which you see here in this video) can be run on any linux operating system. I totally understand you thinking that it would be Ubuntu, because many videos of Ubuntu on YouTube use Compiz and Compiz fusion, and therefore an inexperienced linux user might assume that any other operating system using Compiz and Compiz-Fusion must be Ubuntu.

  • Cheezey is correct. Compiz-fusion is available on all linux systems, even if you need to download the source code and compile it yourself. if you don't believe us look up "fedora compiz" or "gentoo compiz". Same effects. Granted, ubuntu has spiked in popularity over the last few years, and it is common practice to add compiz to it, so it may seem like Ubuntu itself is the source of the effects.

  • what file explorer is he using? btw really nice desktop man

  • Looks like Nautilus to me.

  • yes, kinda sure it's nautilus

  • WHATS THE NAME OF THIS VIDEO REPRODUCTOR???!!!

    minute 4:41

  • I personally dislike wobbly windows if there isn't any anti-alias. :(

  • gay

  • Linux (Ubuntu) is so much better than Windows (Windose) but 2 of 100 People trust to check it out on the owner PC.

And 1 of this 2 People jump up from this try out because it need to config before it will run.

    - But with Windows is everything plug and play? LOL NO Guys is even NOT -

Try out Ubuntu - take you this time

    Welcome to the real world...

  • oh... meh this is more or less what compiz does... lol star warz 3 and ffvii: ac? nice

  • lol my fave movie of all time advent children

  • This was before compiz. (Or the beginning of it)

  • yeah... i just noticed the date was 2006. my mistake :)

  • linux is for nerds or smart people :D

  • True... But im 12 years old and i get along with it real fine... but then again it took me half a year to get my internet running... god damn card was defective lol...

  • lol that's why there's Ubuntu... OTL i suck at linux... but then im gonna stick w/ linux cuz of the apt package manager...

  • but you don't know how to spell "know"

  • okej how do you reconfigure you xorg and xserver if you downloaded the wrong drivers and cannot start linux? huh? answer me.. got damnit

  • So you also know Linux is a kernel, not an operating system? And you know almost everything about that kernel?

Don't think so, I don't even think you ever compiled it from source.

  • but pclinuxos cant be a kernel hence the os part!?

  • You're right, PCLinuxOS is an operating system based on the Linux kernel and the GNU toolchain.

By the way, why do you all downvote my comment? I replied to Undergroundoga's one.

  • so true so true you cant be the average dumbass to run linux

    AcharadD

  • Folks this is old stuff now, try searching on youtube for "compiz fusion" and have a look at more up to date stuff.

  • Does compiz fusion run when you run ubuntu from the live cd or do you have to install ubuntu to let compiz fusion work?

  • i want it, buts on fucken linux

  • fucken? As in fucken moron?

  • What program does he use for the animated background? I can see him typing a command, but cannot decipher it.

  • when the newest feature in the leading OS is a new kind of alt tab.. would it be wize to think that standards have been reached?... (whats faster than clicking?) ohh i iknow! 3D...

  • Lots of eye candy, few really useful features.

  • Man what is the spec on this machine? Everything is so smooth.

  • I've seen beryl on an ibm X40series laptop and it ran very smooth, so I doubt you need anything too impressive for this to work.

  • yes, this is really nice, but the transformations arent looking really useful

  • First of all, Kypher, unix is not "based on linux." Are you serious? look it up. And Expose in OSX doesn't have all the 3d capabilities beryl/compiz/xgl have, plus it costs money. This is open source.

  • what is special about this?

  • Windows ROX, Bill Gates is the man!

  • this is linux.

  • FUCK Novell! FUCK MONO! They are shit! Use Ubuntu Linux!

  • Expose mac os x Fast user switching and multiple screens So whats new exactly.

  • Fuck novell for getting together with windows.

  • Like most things Linux -- it has lots of cool options, but it's impractical for daily use. I'd get motion sickness just doing my daily work.

  • that sucks for you.

i use this every day. its practical. i swear.

  • yeah... i can see that wi;; keep everyone entertained for years... gimmicks, wait for vista and keep filling out those unemployment papers!

  • Get XGL with UBUNTU. Awesome Linux distro

  • But my point is that you can emulate most of what this does. But thanks for the link, I will try the live CD version. :D

  • should it work fine with my hp a1226n? its running off of windows xp home

  • This is OSX with a new name on it.

  • f'n gay mac users-- this is linux. this is a REAL unix based OS

  • Why do I keep hearing this from people. OSX is just as much UNIX as a Linux distro. Only some commands are different. Considering that Linux doesn't have a Unix license. It is officially calssified as "Unix-Like". SOLARIS is real Unix.

Anyhoo, OSX is in th BSD family. BSD is UNIX.

  • Nope this is Linux, OS X is built on Unix which as the name suggests comes from Linux but I wouldn't class it as a successor to Linux.

  • Just to clarify, this is Xgl by Novell, which is a replacement for the X11 server (part of how Unix systems do input/screen output), the effects are technically created by the window manager (compiz) either way, both compiz and Xgl can be installed on most every linux distribution, not just Suse. Many people are unhappy with Xgl and are waiting for the AIGLX project.

  • ROX ;)

  • OMG, when this type of computers are coming out?? It's cool as hell!!!

  • It's a Linux distro... download it

  • Oh for those who don't already know, note that it comes in the form of a liveCD. You burn the .iso image to a cd directly and then boot your computer from the cd (if your bios is configured correctly you should be able to insert the cd in the drive and restart to boot from it)

  • Hey guys if you're interested in downloading this the official download page is here:

    http://kororaa.org/static.php?page=static060318-181203

If you're concerned about sucking up bandwith go ahead and torrent, but if you dont really care and would rather just http/ftp it this server was by far the fastest for me (getting ~1.5 MBps)

    http://distros.g33kd.com/kororaa/kororaa-xgl-livecd-0.2.iso

  • Boooooooooring....

  • This can easily be done with various other programs. Such as Windows Blinds, Windows FX, Winmover, Object Bar, and various others. But still a very nice vid.

  • Yeah, sure. And I'm Xena! :P

After installing all these programs system will be after several blue screens, you will have half free RAM and they will be using half of your processor and XGL not!

  • Yeah, and my almost 2 year old laptop was using 5% CPU when I checked in task manager. Plus I've never had a blue screen. I'm not sure why you have had any problems.

I'm not saying theres anything wrong with XGL. It's everything in one package and it seems like they are all made to work together. It looks really nice. I just prefer my Stardock programs.

  • None of those give you a 3D rotating desktop.

  • thats the Novell XGL demo if anyone wanted to know. You can try it out with a boot cd, no matter what os you are running. Search for "Korora" on google to do this. Also, XGL can be easily implemented on SUSE linux, search for "SUSE XGL install"
