GrPaoOle, first you must be running linux, and then you could either use your package manager to download Compiz and Compiz-fusion, or if that doesn't work, download the source from the Compiz and Compiz-Fusion sites and install them from source.
I think not. Industrial Light & Magic's render far (the over 3000 processors used to make the CGI for Star Wars Episode 3, Transformers etc) run on LINUX. You have absolutely no God damn idea what on Earth your talking about. So please read some or shut up cause it's embarrassing to read comments written by people like you who talks about something you haven't tested or read anything about. It's like saying a movie is shit when you haven't even watched it.
This is just Compiz-fusion. I use it all the time and it's free and actually has a purpose to most of the 'effects'. Snapping windows, multi desktop effects, zoom, expose style desktop management, 'alt tab' variations, taskbar previews, window scaling options, 'minimumise', sorting, grouping.. the list goes fuckin on. Has made my life so much easier LESS the problems with all of it running slow like in Windows Vista.
InSaneTK, I don't know why you would guess that it was Ubuntu or Gentoo... There's a freakin' Novell logo on the top of the cube; it's probably openSUSE.
InSaneTK, the "jelly windows" effect has nothing to do with the Ubuntu project; it is part of the compiz window manager which works on any linux distribution.
This technical jargon doesn't change that all Ubuntu desktop videos I've seen have this effect, plus people who use Ubuntu that I know. Now I know this quad-desktop setup with lots of effects is called Beryl or something. But saying it has nothing to do what you SEE if you search Ubuntu on YouTube, your wrong about that. People demonstrates the desktop thingy all the time and without much knowledge about other OSes that would naturally be my first impression.
Calm down; I wasn't insulting you or anything. My only point that I'm trying to make is that Compiz and Compiz-Fusion (which you see here in this video) can be run on any linux operating system. I totally understand you thinking that it would be Ubuntu, because many videos of Ubuntu on YouTube use Compiz and Compiz fusion, and therefore an inexperienced linux user might assume that any other operating system using Compiz and Compiz-Fusion must be Ubuntu.
Cheezey is correct. Compiz-fusion is available on all linux systems, even if you need to download the source code and compile it yourself. if you don't believe us look up "fedora compiz" or "gentoo compiz". Same effects. Granted, ubuntu has spiked in popularity over the last few years, and it is common practice to add compiz to it, so it may seem like Ubuntu itself is the source of the effects.
True... But im 12 years old and i get along with it real fine... but then again it took me half a year to get my internet running... god damn card was defective lol...

First of all, Kypher, unix is not "based on linux." Are you serious? look it up. And Expose in OSX doesn't have all the 3d capabilities beryl/compiz/xgl have, plus it costs money. This is open source.
Why do I keep hearing this from people. OSX is just as much UNIX as a Linux distro. Only some commands are different. Considering that Linux doesn't have a Unix license. It is officially calssified as "Unix-Like". SOLARIS is real Unix.
Just to clarify, this is Xgl by Novell, which is a replacement for the X11 server (part of how Unix systems do input/screen output), the effects are technically created by the window manager (compiz) either way, both compiz and Xgl can be installed on most every linux distribution, not just Suse. Many people are unhappy with Xgl and are waiting for the AIGLX project.
Oh for those who don't already know, note that it comes in the form of a liveCD. You burn the .iso image to a cd directly and then boot your computer from the cd (if your bios is configured correctly you should be able to insert the cd in the drive and restart to boot from it)
If you're concerned about sucking up bandwith go ahead and torrent, but if you dont really care and would rather just http/ftp it this server was by far the fastest for me (getting ~1.5 MBps)
This can easily be done with various other programs. Such as Windows Blinds, Windows FX, Winmover, Object Bar, and various others. But still a very nice vid.
After installing all these programs system will be after several blue screens, you will have half free RAM and they will be using half of your processor and XGL not!
Yeah, and my almost 2 year old laptop was using 5% CPU when I checked in task manager. Plus I've never had a blue screen. I'm not sure why you have had any problems.
I'm not saying theres anything wrong with XGL. It's everything in one package and it seems like they are all made to work together. It looks really nice. I just prefer my Stardock programs.
thats the Novell XGL demo if anyone wanted to know. You can try it out with a boot cd, no matter what os you are running. Search for "Korora" on google to do this. Also, XGL can be easily implemented on SUSE linux, search for "SUSE XGL install"
good job!!!!
