  • for the editing .... ? what software do you use ?

  • :)

  • cool, good tips, thanks

  • you're my idol!! i wish i have a lot of confident like you are :D i'm starting in a matter of few days. do comment on how it turns out :) thx!

  • really helpful im a first timer and this gave me alot to think about

  • haha Philippines! \m/

  • can u give me some tips. first i know how to edit but i dont know what program to use

  • thanks

  • I don't think "Keeping it short" is the right way to go about it. Just don't let it drag on, make it as long as it needs to be. Your video didn't drag, so, in my opinion, it was short enough.

  • Thanks for doing this :) I used ur advice and just made my first vlog

  • Hey these were really great tips.... I did alot of searching and watched alot of crap looking for tips and this video helped me the most.... It didn't tell me that lip synching sucks or how no1 one wants to see my grandma or ramble about giving tips without ever actually giving tips.... These are just general suggestions on how to make a great video about whatever garbage I'd like to share with the world. Thanks for the insight and I can tell you know something about vlogging....

  • Hi, what kind of handheld camcorder e.g. flip cam, would you recommend for a begginer vlogger on a budget of preferably below £100?

  • this wasnt short by far, but it was worth every second. nice job

  • I really appriciate you sharing all your tips with us. This is the best how to video I have come across on this subject. Subscribed (: Thanks.

  • anymore vlog tips?

  • im sorry but u seem a little too uptight about ur appearance in vids. ppl like like shane dawson dont dress up for thier vids .. so im sorry but ppl dont care about those things

  • ILLINOIS FTW!

  • Haha I'm from Illinois.

  • great video man, will be using these tips for my channel, thanks

  • This is great! Thank you so much ^^

  • lol my view was the 25,000th view :D

  • thanks

  • Great tips. Some things I'm going to be doing from now when I record videos not in any order.

    1.) Set Up Lighting

2.) Set Up Mic and Volume Settings for it

    3.) Camera Settings

    4.) Turn off fan/speakers

    5.) Test Shots

6.) Shower so I can look presentable.

7.) Make sure I know what I'm going to talk about and a lot of what I'm going to say.

  • Very intersting video! thanx for the info

  • awesome thanks!

  • whats the name ?

    inside here on youtube?

i search it all the time on youtube cant find it plz helP!:(

  • @mucahid40 it's youtube insight you get to it by clicking on your username at the top and going into your account then it's on the right hand side

  • what if we dont have any editing software? ):

  • @dotKaede then dont make videos

  • this is really awesome thanks bro

  • Cheers I'm new to Vlogging and appreciate the video

I have two videos of my own and it'd be great if you checked them out

But I don't want to be one of those channels that begs for views and i know you probably get a lot of these so it's up to you :)

    Thanks

  • ok lol

  • ok i'll check them out

  • Tip #11: Don't have a static 10 MINUTE SHOT. In your video you mentioned editing. Use it and add some B-roll. At least include some examples as cut-ins.

  • This wasn't a conventional vlog. It's not meant to be entertaining, it's meant to be informative.

But thanks for the view and comment.

  • Dude, I see you got ads on this vid! Congrats!

  • I did! Yay for revenue sharing.

  • Hey Ben!

I heard you mentioning something about a tribot (??), to get stability when filming outdoors. I tried to google it, but I only found some sort of robot. Guess that was not what you meant. Do I spell it wrong? I like to know what it is exactly, cause I think I might need something like that in the future.

    Great tips by the way!

    Thx, MissD

  • it's a tripod, a sort of stand for whatever imaging device you are using.

  • Thanks for helping out!

  • it is spelled tripod* try that :)!

  • THanks for helping!

  • The device is called a tripod - you can find them most places :]

  • Really helpfull video, good tips, just one tiny little detail that iritated me a bit in your video, and tha was not beeing able to see your entire head. So besides that awesome keep on makin'em

  • Yeah I know! I mentioned that in the annotations and the video description. Sorry about that!

  • Hey, i accidentally rated this two stars but i meant to do five :/ sorry, lol.

I just wanted to say, thanks for the tips, there were some really good ones, i think may help my video's out alot.. I'm having problems with views and subscribers.. but I think that may also just come with not being a vlogger for very long.

  • Aww thanks for rating anyway!

    Good luck to you!

  • OMG! u said Chile! I live there :D

  • LOL!

Thanks for the view and comment!

  • This is really going to help me with my soon to be vlog!! I hope...dunno. cheers! And im obviously thankful ;)

  • Send me a link when you start vlogging! I love checking out new users! :)

  • Great job, good tips, thanks.

  • Thank YOU for the view and comment! :)

  • how can I break a VCD that is 55 min, to only upload 10 min of it ?

  • I'm sorry, but I've unfortunately never worked with VCDs. Perhaps you could use the YouTube Help Forum?

  • you are certainly welcome!

  • I'm new to making videos because I am only good at watching videos. You just helped me. Thanks. You just got a new Subscriber! =D

  • You're so welcome! That's what the video is all about. And thank you so much for suscribing! :)

  • Comment removed

  • I have that with "Messages" in my inbox aswell. I think you can remove thoes Errors simply with a java script code. These are mainly from syntaxes on the youtube page.

  • I figured out to get rid of the thumbnails. I went to edit uploads and replaced them with existing videos/thumbnails.

  • It Happens when i click on my account and messages.

  • That's a general YouTube error, and everyone gets them every so often. Try and clear your cache, cookies, and saved sessions and then come back to YouTube and try to get to these pages. Google how to do so if unsure.

  • Stumbled on the video, defs gonna sub.

Check out our vids if you want. Keep it up!

  • Thanks so much for the comment and sub!

I'll deffo check you out :)

  • Very informative and helpful, great job, 5 stars!

  • Thanks for viewing!

  • Wow. Those were some really good tips, Ben! Thanks for sharing. Hey, I saw that you have graphics at the bottom of your shot. How do you do that?

  • No prob!

The graphics are just titles that I added in Apple's iMovie software. You can also add similar ones using After Effects, or even Window's Movie Maker :)

  • Good tips.

I'm really bad at forgetting to turn off my Twitter feed during videos! :)

  • Haha! Well I'm addicted to Twitter too... maybe I can let those noises slide :P

  • They're SO nice! Yay for cheap and nice looking clothes :) haha

  • nice shirts...i have the same one..American Eagle son!!

  • What do you mean? You don't really need a theme music or jingle?... OF COURSE YOU DO! everybody should have a theme song and what's even more... they should come to us to write them one ;-) HAHAHA!

    Grtz m8

    Tom

  • LOL!

HEY! Everyone! I lied! YOU NEED THEME MUSIC!! :D

    How's that? lol

  • 20 lashes with a wet noodle Ben:)

  • Haha! more like it ;-)

  • Thank you. I am hoping to get a simple camera soon and make some vids to post. This is something I have been wanting to do for a while and these are some great tips. I already know my weak link will be editing. Cannot wait to see part two :)

  • Well if your weak with editing then go find tutorials! There's tons of websites out there that will guide you step by step (usually with instructional videos too!) through the editing process of whatever software you have. What do you use, or will you be using? I can help you find some nice sites for tutorials if you like :)

  • Help is always appreciated. Right now life is rough! But, I know when I get out of this trench I want to have outlet. I have a lot of pictures and in the next week or so I am going to upload them as one of those montage vids - but how does sound work? I am being greedy with your time, any vid tutorials you can pass my way would be great. :)

  • What software/editor are you going to be using?

  • Windows Movie Maker is already on my pc. The problem is I have Vista and the my pics are not organized. and moving the files around is so different I get disinterested to easily. What is the best way to stay focused? Silly ? I know but my life lacks focus and so my mind is a constant wondering of thoughts. I need....a lot. :) don't we all

  • I never know when to leave feedback about videos... but I am really grateful you ditched the extended ObviouslyBenHughes intro. It was so so so very painful.

Your videos are really well lit. It would be great to hear/see more about your lighting setup.

  • LOL

I know... That was a horrid intro. Glad I'm doing the new shorter one.

    Still think it needs tweeking?

And yeah, i'll deffo go into more lighting in the next video

  • Thanks for the tips. A little too long, and the best tip was at the very end, I had no idea what the insight button was for. Thanks again

  • I agree about the length... aiming to have the next top ten under 7 minutes.... ;)

  • I love how you can talk off the top of your head like this ;)

  • Awesome Ben, I faved it (is that a word?,lol) 5/5 buddy!

  • THANKS Don! ;) Rate 'em while you still can! lol

  • Welcome buddy:)

  • Thanks, some great simple tips. :)

  • And thank YOU for watching and commenting :)

  • #9- Tell em whatcha gunna tell em, tell em, tell em what you just told em.

    ...o speech class...

  • EXACTLY! haha

  • And in a nice Brooklyn accent, ta boot! :D

  • It's a weird talent I have... And I don't have any fear of public speaking, either. Very strange...

And remember, I learn my vloggery from the best :D And I use LISTS too! haha Just not on envelopes :P

  • CRAP! I deleted SnarkDeTriomphe's comment!

    Here's what she said:

"I love how you can talk off the top of your head like this ;) "

  • Good video. I tried vlogging before but I found it to be a little tedious. I do interview videos and they work out much better. Thanks for this!

    Domingo0022

  • It can be a little tedious, yes. But only if you let it be! Try doing one-take videos - they're MUCH easier to do than you would think, and you can just upload the video files right off your camera (if it allows for that) instead of importing, editing, exporting, etc.

  • Yeah, I have a JVC cam that allows it for sure. One take videos eh? So, I just make a video in one take and that's pretty much it huh?

  • Exactly! The best way to do it is to write out a list ofthings to talk about on a post-it or a piece of paper, and then have it taped up next to or beneath your camera to refer to while shooting.

My video from last week, Dude! I'm talking FAST!, was one shot, but I edited it so I could add the title and such to it. Give it a go and let me know how it works out for you.

    -B

  • Good to know! I'll get back to you on that!

  • Nice! Private message me a link when you're done and tell me who you are so I remember!

  • Aw, thanks for the rating! w00t! Get them in before they do away with 'em! haha

  • Another good video Ben!

  • Well thank you so much! Aren't you nice :D

  • nice tips!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Well thank you! Be on the look out for part TWO as well! Yeah!

  • Nice !!! :)

  • Thanks for stopping by and viewing!

  • You're just fantastic man! Thanks for the expert advice! I will definitely implement a few of those ideas from here on!

  • LOL I'm NO expert, trust me ;)

  • Also, it's good not to be so close to the camera that it crops off your face. It makes the Vlogger look as is he/she is in your face and it's very distracting.

If you're going to talk about an article of clothing, book etc . . . Show it.

    Wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

  • What did I talk about and not show? Can't think of anything off the top of my head...

  • Hey Ben,

Thnx for all the tips; so kewl people like you sharing their knowledge!

    Grtz!

    Dennis

  • Thanks for the view and compliment guys!

  • Some very good advice. I always think I should take a bit more time with my videos. I was doing it for a little while, but without proper editing software it just became a nuisance and I gave up and went back to my original.... point, shoot and upload.

  • What are you using to edit? in all honesty, I used Windows Movie Maker for ALL of the editing on the Movlogger account, and if you work at it you can make that program do some nifty things ;]

  • I use the same thing... problem is, it doesn't accept the format that my video camera saves files as... I can't afford a converter program that will work with such large files either... so, I have to upload my files to youtube on another account, download them, then I can edit. It's a long horrible process.

  • your 10th tips is useful and i usually check statistics.

  • Thank you so much :)

  • lol well i fail at the cat part

  • HA! but at least cats a CUTE!!!!

  • excellent tips =)

i love looking at some of our early vlogs...lol somebody did a vid where a bunch of ppl posted their first vlogs...now that was funny!

  • Thank you :)

I'm actually starting a series soon where I talk to 'tubers about where they are now, and we look at their first video they ever posted (if it's still up, or if they have it) and then talk about how they've changed, if they ever thought they'd be where they are now, etc.

    Wanna join in?

  • thanks ben! When it comes to Insight...ive tried it, yet when I click on it it says ...loading...but never loads.

    Cheers

  • Have you tried it on any videos that have been up for a while? Like more than a week?

AND, what browser have you been using? Maybe it's a good idea to try out Firefox/Chrome/Safari and see if any of those let it work?

  • good info. This was very helpful and you camera looks really good with the backdrop

  • Well thank you! I'm pretty annoyed with all of the LINT on the blanket though! haha

  • also you can get a tripod at walmart a very cheap one is around 10 bucks

  • Seriously?? I'm pretty sure I'm taking a trip out there prontostat!

  • great video ben... Thank you!

  • No prob - thank YOU for viewing and commenting!
