Best thing to do when this happens is angle the blade all the way to one side then drop the blade and angle it the other way while backing up. It will use the blade to push your self out. If still stuck repeat until you are out. Works great and you wont have to shovel at all :-)
I borrowed someones plow truck once cause I thought it would be warmer and faster than my tractor. Same thing happened to me. Without down pressure on the blade, you push up and over a large bank of snow and the plow gets you stuck. Could more experience prevented this? Probly, but this is what happens. Wet heavy snow is a pain to clear.
Why get out of your car and start digging two lanes , when you can spend one hour with wheelspin and publicly announcing that you are a rallydriver in your later days ?
Here in Newfoundland you wouldn't dream of plowing a road with a pickup, the smallest we use, and this is just small town hall trucks for side roads, are single rear axle dumpers (fully loaded with road plow, sand spreader, chains)
Highway department uses full size double rear axe truck. Even out pickups, which don't plow, still carry sand spreaders.
All a pickup truck can manage up here id plowing driveways, and I see some getting stuck simply trying to do that lol.
First of all, that's a pickup with a plow, not a snow plow. A snow plow is a dump truck with a load of sand, a sand spreader on the back, and a big ass road plow in the front. Plus many has the additional side plow.
.
And second, how the hell did he get stuck? Did he lift the plow and try to drive through the snow or what?
.
Hmm, they should give the the old Newfi saying. "GIVE ER!!!" (or floor it most would say)
.
But you know what your whole problem is, it's a Ford XD.
@justinlynch3 one can see just as many DOT plow trucks stuck in a good blizzard and its not always the drivers mistake but,,,yeah you guessed right...the city managers and their decreped planning (snow chains , proper equipment for arterial roads and sidewalks...but no...they'd rather plan another trip to a far away country to do some "market research" with that money...
A lot of us have done it... just don't wait as long to go plow that lot. Snow takes a toll on any truck.

Most snow plows are at least a 3/4 ton truck AND have real snow tires too.
