they were so nice that they kind of went along with everything as long as they had creative control...which they did...Chris probably didn't have much say with what went on - Miki strong personality...
@theflorgeormix No. The story I read back in '96 was that Chris Acklund hanged himself at his parents' house after not being able to pay the rent on his flat. He was despondent over his finances when the band should have been making some real money. All in all it tore the band apart, as they were all so close.
@raiderglory he was spending his money on what...drugs...I drink beer no saint, all in all though everyone in this band was a nice person, slightly rare
Sod the lot of you haters...Miki gave her heart and soul to every little tv performance, every autograph seeker, every live show on the road 180 days a year for 6 years worldwide...she was one of the most gracious rockers ever..R I P LUSH
they do look burned out, at this point of their careers they probably needed to take a break from touring and just record, like what REM did before recording Out of Time, unfortunately it sadly ended with the death of Chris. RIP
I saw them in early '92. Middlesbrough Arena. The gig was in a room upstairs. There was a bar downstairs. I saw Chris Acland talking with some people at the bar beforehand...very smiley and happy. It was a really good gig, lovely atmosphere. The sound quality was excellent and my ears weren't buzzing afterwards for once.
I saw them on tour in 1992 and they really seemed to age a great deal from then til this performance (like really tired or maybe just hungover?). I think Chris was frustrated they hadn't made it financially but that's what happens when your music is too good for simple people's tastes which sums up most of the music buying public.
Rare, great, and important, if (like anything now wrt lush) with an overtone of sadness . . . Emma ruled with a coolness; always did. Miss them, I do, still...
they were too decent to break their contract with a label that let them keep there artistic cred totally but couldn't support them as they needed...still we fans have great stuff but if they were still around, who knows
they say suicide is a selfish act, yet it affects more than the victim......in this case it broke up this wonderful band and after fourteen yrs later, i
don't see Miki or Emma ever getting back together.............thanks for the in-the-studio clip
One month after this show, Chris decides he's had enough and ends it all. From all accounts, these four are very likable people. God, what happened?! I gave the video five very important stars. I'm #270 on 8/22/09 at 2:07 AM CST.
God, they looked so tired on this video, especially Miki and Emma... The intensive "shaving the pavement" tour (the "tragical history tour" ?) was obviously taking its toll on the band members.
Yes, it's sad to see how the grind of constant touring in 1996 wore them out. But there's more going on in this particular clip - according to Phil they also had a hangover from celebrating Chris' 30th birthday the night before :) plus they had to get up early that morning to pack and get to the TV studio.
the downside of heavy touring is burning out, while the upside is that the band gets ridiculously fluid and tight. despite the fact that they don't look overly happy to be in the TV studio, they *sound* really good, IMO.

Is it just me, or does 500 sound very similar to The Primitives' "Run Baby Run"?

@CatapultYourMom I think 500 sounds like Cub. It's very Lisa Marr.

It's almost hard to watch. They look so tired, burnout and unhappy. I don't think any of the four smiled at any time during the video.

@Lushfan
My thoughts exactly. On the other hand this was just after a tour and a show the day before so maybe one shouldn't read too much in it.
