I played this a few years ago (1st trombone). Two lovely memory spots. The high Gb in the solo that I could never hit (easy now lol), and the ridiculous 16th notes in the last measure. I literally flutter-tongued it and still had problems playing it that fast. I ended up making it eighth notes for performances. Good times :-)
Playing the french horn part for this currently in HS symphonic band for our spring concert. Fun to play and listen too! Thanks for posting this good version up! ^^
We're playing this in community band; I keep waiting for the Marlboro Man to come riding through the door. I'm not familiar with any of R's other music, but this seems to me to be a pale imitation of the Theme from the Magnificent Seven.
If you guys want to know what song Steven Reineke blatantly stole this melody from, type in "Silverado Theme" into the youtube search bar above you. I've spoken with Steven Reineke personally, and I happen to know this for a fact.
Steven Reinekes is a musical genius! What a masterpiece! Not to many artists who can include such a warm trombone solo and still the keep the plot the way it was meant to be!
@Eliminator1515 Exuse me, who are you to say anything about the way trombones can, and cannot play? It wasn't the composer that made the trombone solo sound good, it was the trombonist himself.
@SemperFidelis52 The composer is the one that made all the notes, dynamics, etc. of the solo. Of course the trombone player made the solo itself sound amazing AFTER the composer wrote it. I simply didn't mention it because people (like you) already know it, and people (like me) know I don't need to acknowledge it because there are not many idiots out there who think that the way they read something is the way it was meant to be read. I am a trombone player, who are you to comment on who I am?
As a trombone player, I've actually performed this solo live, and it's actual composition is not very noteworthy. Not only do all of Steven Reineke's compositions follow the EXACT SAME SONG STRUCTURE(And I mean EXACT.) as each other, but the man steals all of his melodies from other composers. As a composer, I can tell you Steven Reineke is nothing special, considering I've met the man in person.
I couldn't agree more. I compared "sedona" and "where eagles soar" in one of my music programs and i swear i've never seen two pieces more similar in my life! Reineke is a terrible composer.
It's not just those 2. I can find 6 songs written by him that have the exact same song structure. There is another song where the trombone part is very similar, just the melody over it is altered. As a trombone player(playing the chords and background in most music) I can tell more than most. The only difference is that the solo is played by a trumpet instead of a trombone.
Here is Reineke's song structure for all his music:
Intro-this is either minimalistic or loud-followed by a small climax, then a statement of the melody through woodwinds, then the statement of the melody through brass, a solo followed by a soft woodwinds feature, then a crescendo into a sort of grand chord-heavy section, which then transitions back into the statement of the melody by the woodwinds, then the brass, and then the outro.
isnt this the theme from silverado??.....i was watching amc and this came on during the beginning of the movie and i was like O_o i play this in band....
Haha that's really funny. I actually played this song today at a high school festival, and afterwords during a clinic the judge told us this song is basically a rip-off of Silverado's theme (we didn't lose points for that or anything).
I really like Reineke (first found him when I was in HS with Mountain of Dragons, an amazing song!)... but I can't help but think of the theme to SIlverado (1985) when I listen to this song. Anyone else hear that?
There is now online links to download this music. (yet) But the company it came from, Walking Frog Records, offers a wide veriety of consert band music CDs. Walking Frog is also opening an online download store sometime this month (January)
