  • all of these pictures are before the water came.... we had about 10- 15 ft. of standing water in some places maybe even more

  • actually they were taken as the water was rising if you check my other videos, I tried to document this disaster as it happened. Thanks for watching, this was my first effoft on youtube

  • What's up to fellow Cedar Rapidians.

  • ntm jus tryin hard to rebuild. can u believe all the crap these people r talking they jus need to leave the subjuect alone.

  • i mean subject

  • Yeah especially the idiot that said that 24 people died in the flood. I don't know if there were even 24 murders in the entire state last year. LOL I know what you mean I lost all mys hit too. The only thing that is getting me by is the fact that I am really young and that what I lost is nothing compared to what a lot of other people lost I work with 60+ year old people that lost everything I at least am at the age that I can start over easily A lot of other people cant Oh Yeah FUCK FEMA

  • ya i live here in Cedar Rapids We lost Some Historical Buildings and 24 people died

  • What the hell are you talking about? I don't believe there were ANY deaths directly attributed to the flooding, unless you count the elderly woman that was found in her basement, but I believe the cause of death was listed as heart attack.

  • no one died due to flooding

  • Immaturity at its finest.

  • BellePeteCMT...I live in cedar raapids and it's a very nice city so you can just shut ur mouth because it was very devastating and we have a very nice community and we all came together to help with the fllod and there was no looting or anything like there was in New Orleans so SHUTUP!

  • god isn't even real. if you can show some kind of evidence that he existed then i'll believe it!

  • i think that all you peopl saying that all us that were efficted by the flood that it is gods way of punishing us well sorry because i am a person who goes to church all the time and i still got efficted by the flood so its not gods way of punishing us it just something that happened so mabey you should just shut up because if you were effected by it you would be sayin the same so just shut up and go get a life

  • what horrible choice of music... seriously.

  • as if I asked you, or care what you think

  • Well, that comment proves YOUR superiority doesn't it?

  • i live outside of the flood plain and i had a full basement and almost two feet on the main floor in my primary home. My other home was up to the second floor. This flood effected alot more people than just people flooded. I have friends in other countries who cried because they were worried if my family was okay. RESEARCH!

  • It couldn't have happened to a more useless city. New Orleans is better.

  • Sorry, but I beg to differ, since we were not LOOTING, KILLING, AND RAPING each other. I was on the front line of that flood and I know that we have more resources here than they do in New Orleans. Watch your food costs go up and call us useless when your whining about paying more for food.

  • Useless? Really? Have you EVER been to Cedar Rapids? It's a very nice city. Crime isn't nearly as high as other cities, and people are overall very friendly. I don't think I could say the same about New Orleans.

  • I live in cedar raapids and it's a very nice city so you can just shut ur mouth because it was very devastating and we have a very nice community and we all came together to help with the fllod and there was no looting or anything like there was in New Orleans so SHUTUP!

  • The Deforestation and Deprairiezation of Iowa. What happen the prairie land grasses to absorb the excess water. Land Stewardship must be poor in the Midwest

  • god is punishing those asshole lol

  • Sorry. You have us confused with your family.

  • you dumb fucker. CedarRapids Iowa has almost 200,000 people in it you uptown faggot!

  • we should not allow people to move into flood planes. unless they build up the houses high enough

  • hey idiot the flood effected alot more than the flood plain LOL research be4 you open your mouth next time.

  • I'm pretty sure YOU're the one who should be doing the research, of course it didn't just affect the flood plane, but by allowing so many people to move into the flood plain natural water use fills up the resevoirs from overpopulation of those sensitive areas and when a rain DOES happen the resevoirs flood, thus causing flooding.

    do your research

  • that video was shot back when the forcast was23-25 foot crest. That video showed little less than what it was suppose to be. Now add 6 more feet of water and that's what devistated my home

  • I am so sorry for you all out there--my husband grew up in CR (well, Fairfax), and I know the town well. We are keeping you in our prayers and hope you all make it through this.

  • God bless all those going through this catastrophe. Good example of how to conduct (and obey) evacuation orders. And how refreshing it is not to have to bear witness to looters and shooters for whom the rest of the country is expected to cough up money to rescue. I live in Houston and the Katrina thugs, 50,000 of them, who relocated here are making my city a ****-****! Iowans be proud! I have heard no complaints from Omaha.

  • didnt that bridge at the beginning fall?

  • no...that one actually held back 0 houseboats from slamming through the downtown area. The one with all the box cars on it fell. Ironically. all the pictures in this film, that was was the flood was suppose to be, that was all the water they had predicted. 10 feet later...that's what we got. God bless CR

  • No, that bridge is still there. The one by Penford is the one that went down.

  • God be with all those affected; they are in my prayers!

  • The US is having lots of nasty floods right now and today in the news they are saying New Orleans will expect to flood as bad as it did a few years ago. The US has got fires raging out of control, and severe tornados, not to mention all the food crops destroyed from last year but this year. Is god punishing the USA for it's evil doings in the middle east? For sex prisons like Abu Ghraib? YES!

  • You're a moron. When your country covers most of the inhabitable land of an entire CONTINENT you're bound to get a wide variety of natural disasters. The severe weather phenomena is a global issue you fucktard.

  • @ AsphaltAbuse (just so you know I am talking to YOU)

Oh shut up and sit down, "fucktard"...people who have just lost everything they own don't want to read your retarded shit.

    You make me sick.

  • @ Valerie. I grew up in Cedar Rapids, and if you cared to "View all comments" you'd see it was a reply to davidsghost saying that the US is being targeted by God. If you read the CONTEXT of what I was saying you'd understand I was actually COUNTERING the guy. YOU are the one that needs to "sit down and shut up" and comprehend what I'm saying instead of looking for a quick flame. How is "severe weather phenomena is a global issue" talking down at Cedar Rapids? Get off your high horse.

  • Get off your own high horse, and stop calling people names like moron and fucktard. You don't make it any better, you moronic fucktard.

  • The only person I called a name was the one who said God was punishing Cedar Rapids. You did the same, as well as targeted me for no apparent reason. How about you quit the hypocrisy and call it quits? You're 41, old enough to be my mom, cut the shit and act your age.

  • Yeah, that's it. It's punishment. You simplistic idiot.

  • The Federal and State governments may have to build a seawall bordering the Cedar river around Cedar Rapids, otherwise it's a dead zone. No one is going to invest in this place for fear of future flooding.

  • Look at the video I just got of this. If you've ever wanted to see a Dairy Queen under water, here's your chance...

    /watch?v=3VnLf4Cw5c4

    This is truly terrible.

  • These areas are all underwater now. I hate what this water is doing to my town.

  • Thanks for the well-taken and very clear photos. Keep the updates coming, you are making a document that will be seen for decades.

  • The city hall looks like some cruise ship, I can't wait to help volunteer after this, that railroad bridge is underwater now.

  • god help us! this is the most horrible thing i have ever seen! worse than '93

  • my god i only live a few miles from this my mom's work (great america building) is in water, the freaking railroad bridge next to it is destroyed, 1st and 2nd ave. bridges are underwater, what "dam" is there?? palo...tch palo's gone i mean, i'm freaking out this is horrible. i got pictures the other day and it's nothing compared to now. my god...we need help
  • the dam i think is under the I 380 bridge

  • i know where the dam is

but i mean, people visiting would say

    "what dam?"

and it's just going to get worse.

the highest record before this was only about

    20 feet in 1929

and now it's almost 30 and rising.

  • come help sand bag!

    NOW!!!

  • One of the first 2 bridges are underwater now. Not sure which one but its underwater

  • Its actually about 5-6 feet higher than that right now, and still rising here.

  • I always wonder why people choose to live in a FLOOD PLAIN. Hello! I live about 3 blocks from the river in Cedar Rapids. We are up high enough I'm not worried, but I'd NEVER live or put a buisiness right along the river.

  • I could go into a whole long dissertation, about why towns grow up near rivers, but the effort would be wasted on people like you. The bottom line is, we can't all live on hills. And if your house ever gets blown away by a tornado, be assured someone will say "I don't know why people choose to live in TORNADO ALLEY. hello"

  • hey mozart, not only are you dead, but you're dumb too.

  • Nice. Shows your intelligence.

  • trying to gain an upper hand on this by a sarcastic comment? i appreciate the effort :]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]

  • Some say Obama is behind the breaking of the Levees in the Mid-West, and that he aimed the flood waters at white voters who are pro-McCAin. If true, OBAMA HATES WHITE FOLKS!

  • dude, get a life, and buy a clue

  • i live in marion and all these pictures are from a few days ago when it was lower than it is now is bad and alot higher. GO SANDBAG we need it

  • I took these photos 6-10 after 6pm. Just posted new ones taken this evening

  • I love the way this is put together. Thanks for your time and effort. I live in C.R. and my son is away for two weeks. He'll freak when he sees this video! Looking forward to the update!

  • just posted 62 new photos. thanks for the kind words

  • my bro is a civil engineer in cedar rapids....he got a phone call to come in to work today at 4:30...they raised the expected crest of the cedar by 2.5 feet and he called and told us to evacuate now b/c the crest is 2-3 feet higher than any levee we have built downtown....now here i am 15 hours later sitting in my grandparents house due to a mandatory evac...really sucks...i hope everyone remains safe and none of the levees brake...i also hope they were off on the expected crest!God Bless!!!

  • ps....430 in the morning...(sucks to be him right now after putting in so much overtime!!)

  • yea, i live in the development by jones golf course. and its really bad on the course. the people who are facing the course will have to evacuate its 50ft away from there homes, yeaa im 12 so i use to like rain, but it sucksss now cause we cant go boating in coralville, but i am gonna help with the sand bagging in vinton or at some building today

  • Crest has been set @ 22.1 feet. But we're usually about 1-2 feet lower than what Waterloo crests at. Expect Cedar Rapids to see at least 23-24 feet as the crest for the flood stage since Waterloo hit 26 feet.

  • i live in cedar rapids and we had to evacuate supposedly it's up in over the sidewalks in front of my house im 14 and ive never seen anything lyk this plus theirs more rain coming

  • its 2 feet from the bottom of the bridge as of this moment
