My brother once stuck a pencil in the microwave becausse the eraser was hard. Aparently heat treats a hard eraser he heard. I told him next time I'll stick a match to the eraser. No fire because he stoped it once it started smelling bad, but our kitchen stunk for a week.

We found an explanation of the numbering system.The number indicates the hardness of the pencil core-the higher the number, the harder the lead. The site that we found this info on didn't mention number 1 pencils, we figured in theory, they should exist. So we put our theory to the test by heading to the site of a random pencil manufacturer and attempting to purchase number 1 pencils. Judging by our findings, number 1 pencils exist are primarily used for things like scoring bowling or drawing.

But just as a side note, lead breaks easily while graphite is obviously fairly durable. The sticks for mechanical pencils break because of how thin they are based on how hard you push down when you write.

I have used both #1 and #3 pencils for various reasons, but I like the #3 better. (then again, I tend to write tiiiiny if given half a chance, and use size .25mm mechanical pencils, so this is hardly unexpected.)

Pencils other than #2 are meant for art uses. They also have letters, which is when it gets really confusing...also, really awesomely unexpected result. I never thought a pencil would actually do something.
