@mikay2796uk Stick around young person. There's a whole world of magnificent music from the past ahead of you. Start off with Mozart's lacrimosa. Best of luck.
Excellent rendition! Another excellent more modern version is by the massed Welsh Choirs recorded in 1979 "Speed Your Journey" on CD - 36 Classics from the Valleys; it's awesome!
Yes, I think you're right, it would make a wonderful Italian national anthem.......it's so moving. I can imagine the Italian team singing this before their match!
@tenorismo How sadly ironic that would be: the Italians kept the descendants the Jews slaves in encampments on the island of Venice. In fact, the area was known as the Venetian Ghetto. This provides the origin of the word "ghetto": an officially-dedicated area where a people of common ethnic, social or religious heritage might be confined and suppressed. The Jews were liberated when Napoleon stormed Italy. Upon his defeat, the Jews were ghettoized again. No... not a good anthem for Italy.
one of michael foot's favourites, sad today that moderation and realism are the only ways forward. Vision and radicalism in life and in my job in teaching are always important. Wonder if this will be played at Michael Foot's funeral. I remember being very excited when he was elected as Labour leader and when I listen to this piece of music I will always think of Michael now. Stood alongside him on many a nuclear disarmament march in the eighties but he was already there at the end of the fifties
Oh yes that's VERY clever of Michael Foot, isn't it? Nuclear Disarmament in the face of the Soviet Union at the time - though Foot and the entire Labour Party are Frankfrut School Marxists it should come as no surprise that they would be so keen to allow the soviets to march over Europe.
Very impressive ! Verdi gave us the most beautiful chorus of all here ! Individual freedom, patriotism, loyalty, and nobility of the human spirit are always great sentiments.
It seems to see the waves of homesickness, driven through the desert, towards the walls of Jerusalem. Everyone should listen to this before conducting this masterpiece. Grazie Arturo.
What a powerful piece of music. It has so much emotion the whole way through. I always play it at maximum volume when I'm unhappy and it reminds me that there are people worse off in the world. Absolutely amazing.
My favourite opera and chorus depicting God's liberation of people with problemsof any type. I counsel folk how to be freed to fulfill your full potential in life, that precious gift with all its possibilities to every human.
This version appears to be a little on the slow side to me .... or is it me?

Go, alight on the cliffs, on the hills,
Where there are wafting the warm and gentle
Sweet breezes of our native land.
