@ITILII Stiglitz was an economic advisor to Obama during the campaign and thinks he invented information asymmetry. Therefore take what he says with a grain of salt. Although I agree that we are in a lot of trouble.

you have to take nobel prize winners, particularly in economics, with a grain of salt. Economics is closely coupled with political thought and nobel prizes typically go to communists.

chris the nobel prize is established for exceptional minds, these people represent the finest that man has to offer in thinking. generally the nobel prize represents a phenomenal discovery or set of data from an exceptional intelligence. I am pretty sure Hawking is no communist in fact I am sure most of these esteemed minds arent overtly socialist. That being said America only things its a democracy, and truly it isnt.

you soo suck for reminding me of that. I need to correct myself , Some fantastic minds have recieved the nobel award, nelson madelas efforts and sacrifices as tainted as they were were valid. This economist simply found key components that were overlooked. It was a deserved award. True that we dont have the davinci minds around anymore but we have alot more people as well. Yeah... Al Gore was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize by a bunch of guys who didn't know if global warming existed or not but who just felt like being nice to him. Doesn't make a lot of sense does it?

Read Joseph Stiglitz's book "Globalisation and it's discontents" AN excellent book, easy to understand, Stiglitz really does a good job of explaining the corruption of the IMF and economic crisis in Asia in the late 90's. A must read!!!
