Go on Johnny Marr! I couldn't get on with The Cribs beforehand because I probably heard hey Scenesters when I was having a bad day and thought that is proper too cheerful. Always admired their ethos though, I mean going to hospital after you have stabbed yourself, having the stitches and then going back to finish the party off is what it's all about man!!
Hardly over produced. They've just written more complicated/complex guitar lines (thanks in part to the addition of Johnny Marr) - the vocals etc. still retain the edge of their previous songs. I mean, they cant go on playing the same stuff forever (which is what the original punks found out in the 70's/80's)
Again WTF? I just hear "bog-standard indie-rock band" whenever I listen to the Cribs. The only thing that makes this passable is Mr Marr's stylish fretwork, otherwise, what are we left with exactly? I mean it's not exactly This Charming Man is it? As a Wakefield boy and huge smiths fan I desperately want the Cribs to be really good. But they're not, are they?
yeah they are, just some ppl expect too much from em too early end of the day there out there recruting decent guitar players to there band so they can take off n make it big. how many other bands do u no from the wakefield city who have played at leeds and reading fest? toured america, japan, germany? not many if there is any others. like to see u form a band and do half as good as they have!
They're an exception indie-rock band. Marr joined them, not the other way around. Why would they want to sound like The Smiths, just 'cause Marr's in the band?
best works marr's done since the smiths - no doubt
