  • Are you sure this isn't and Australian Crow?

  • @verticalsmurf Yes, that call is distinctive :) It is an Australian Raven

  • Anyone who hates crows/ravens is ignoring the fact they clean up all of the dead stuff laying around and help keep Australia clean.

  • I was listening through headphones just now and when combined with the quasi-tunnel vision of the beginning along with the recital of Poe it made for an odd and quite intriguing experience!

  • Your ravens (or crows, I cannot tell the difference, except one is supposed to be bigger than the other) look just like ours in the USA, but they don't sound the same for some reason. Not at all. And FYI, I am a HUGE Poe fan (especially, "The Cask of Amontillado)!! Great vid, and great poetry:)

  • I admire the crow family - had a friendly raven in the Peak District - it would eat anything - hiding what it couldn't finish - not that I was ever tempted by a piece of steak that glowed green in the dark. Now I have just a parakeet and a canary - oh, and have been chasing this jay (they really sound like the devil) round the forest but it's better off free - and they can drive you quite pokey as pets. Love your work, lovely voice and person!

  • That was excellent! What a cool and perfect video to to with your wonderful reading, I enjoyed it! ... FrAnK (5*****)

  • Some annoying person has put minus(-) signs all over the comments. Why does someone like that work so hard for so little actual gain?

  • this is horrible. i have tried to go through alot of them and thumb up them. i hate how people could do this. and to raven most of all. we all know the truth, raven is just so awesome

  • Good job Raven..

  • It has a very eerie call. However it is also a very beautiful bird.

  • I wonder how long you have wanted to write '"The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe, read by TheRavenOfPoe'?! Perhaps you have before, but I missed it. A pleasure to see your video - thank you.

  • A raven's voice breaks the stillness of early morning still clad in the festive attire of yesternights revelries... nothing ghastly in his demeanor; he carries his sombre eloquence lightly upon his outstretched wings Thank you for sharing your native kin. - from another admirer of the solemn-winged raven I learned to love them when, as a child, a neighbor found an abandonend fledgling and reared him. He was a cheeky lad, that one. It so liked shiny things...
  • I think my capacity to proofread has abandoned me. Pity... I am also distracted by shiny things it seems.

  • Thank you for this most beautiful comment! =) I would have loved to befriend that pet raven - but they certainly are cheeky creatures ;)

  • what a beautiful bird. brilliant video.

  • Very Nice. Loved the camera pan. :)

  • That was pretty cool. Early mornings are excellent!

  • This was made quite well! The camera travel and music worked very well together.

  • this was a beautiful creation ! thank you !!!

  • You have such a beautiful voice. Excellent Video :D

  • I love ravens! beautiful!

  • Awe, that was beautiful Jen!

  • He has such a strange voice. :P

  • Yes, one always knows when a raven is around here, hehe ;)

  • Ah that distinctive Aussie sound of raven and crickets! Great photos too.

  • It certainly is, hehe!

I really enjoyed your footage of Australian birds =)

  • As with everything Jen does, this is done with class and style.

  • Great video Jenny! :-) I love birdsong, if that's what you can call a raven's caw. Good choice of music too.

  • Thank you Charly and Josh! =) All the birds here in Australia seem to have quite loud, brash calls hehe! The raven always stands out with its ar-ar-aaaar though ;)

  • Oh Raven this is brilliant. It answers any questions I ever had about where I want my art to go.

It s all about using simple clear images and combining them with clarity and quality.

I liked the anticipation... waiting for the bird to appear. Then, you spoke the words wonderfully lucidly.

This is a fine piece of work.

    Regards, Peter

  • Thank you very much Peter! The editing process for these pieces is perhaps the part I enjoy the most - I love seeing how small changes or effects can have a powerful impact on how a piece makes the viewer feel or think.

  • 5 *****

    (^_^)

  • excellent video !

Jennifer, i wish you a year 2009 filled with health & peace for you and all the people that are in your heart & thoughts

    Eduard

  • thank you Eduard and the very same to you =)

  • thank you very much

  • wow....im kinda speachless as you can see lol i love the view and the search at the start

  • Thank you, my friend ^^

  • The last comment was about the "feel" or theme of the Raven as a central character. This comment is just a compliment for your Video composition skills! I loved the moments of unease caused by the mysterious piano music! Also the searching of the camera to find the source of the call. Then the transition to the famous poem and a closup of the bird. Very Nice! The whole thing had a nice feel of mystery about it!

  • thank you Brian! You can imagine how much I enjoyed working with ravens as a subject, hehe

  • Whats in a Name?

  • Very cool. It does however beg the question - what were you doing in a swamp at quarter past five in the morning? We really must have a chat about your sleeping patterns!

Once again, your videos make me smile.

  • On this occasion I had fallen asleep around 1 and set my alarm for 5am for an early start to head back home ;)

But yes, my sleeping patterns remain vampiric lol

  • While watching, it struck me how some animals like this Raven, seem to mimic human personalities that we know. This bird has all dark and coarse plummage. A very human mocking and angry tone to it's call. A harsh staring cold look to it's eye. Like a characer out of Dicken's London; you would not want to meet the human version of this bird on a back street or dark alley way. Likely a habitual criminal, theif, and a bully. Perhaps reincarnation is true. And it was one many years ago.

  • The raven of poe reading the raven of poe watching the raven of australia. Dizzy =S

  • hehe, ravin' mad some might say

  • You've watched too many of my bad pun videos. Seek treatment. =P

  • will do, lol

  • So beautiful...I really liked the extract

from "The Raven" by Poe. It's one of my favourite poems =D Thank you for the video!

  • Thank you! It is a poem that always draws me back to read it again =)

  • Ahhhh... I wanted to hear more of you!

Lovely video... five stars/fav the works :P

  • Thank you David! I did a full reading of "The Raven" a while back, but it does not do the poem justice. I reckon I'll try again sometime though ;) I just need to work more on my Vincent Price voice..lol

  • nice. that was good.

    William

  • Thanks William!

  • One of my favorite birds...next to Crows =P

  • hehe, I'll confess crows are among my favourites too

  • Beautiful as always.

  • Thank you Lisa =)
