which is better? 11inch with corei7 or 13 with corei5 1.7ghz? would they both be enough for hd video editing? i have the 11 corei7 at the moment and hd video editing hasnt been a problem so far.
@iAppleseedy no that wasnt my question. I know now after some more research that the 11inch core i7 1.8ghz is faster than the 1.7ghz core i5 on the 13inch. I have the 11inch core i7 1.8ghz. I was thinking of changing to the 13 inch base model (because of price) over my 11inch core i7 for the simple reason that I'd still be able to edit HD video no problem and I'd have a better battery life and make it easier to work with when editing.
@simon44 Um... OK. What I now recommend you buy is the MacBook Air 11" i7 with an LCD Display. So you can edit your movies on a big screen, not on an 11" screen.
BTW, if you need performance, why don't you go for the MacBook Pro.
@iAppleseedy Yeah I have the 11inch core i7. Its good and I did edit full 10 minutes 1080p in iMovie but I saw another video where someone else struggled to do more than 5 minutes on final cut pro x on the core i5 1.7ghz 13inch model. Now maybe final cut pro x takes up a shit load of ram? I'm surprised though because I really didnt struggle at all with the 1080p videos on iMovie and there is only a 7%-11% difference between the corei5 1.7ghz and the core i7 1.8ghz chips.
Based on your question I re-ran Geekbench a bunch of times making sure nothing else was running and the best result was a score of 6288. Maybe there is a way to force the turbo mode on which could result in better scores but I don't know it.
@jasperpants thats abt right, cuz i checked another video he got the same score, 6288..this is amazing..im gonna get the one with i7!! your video helps alot! thanks again
Ive seen another macbook air geekbench video and that Macbook Air is a 13" with i5 1.7Ghz, 128GB SSD, but it has over 6200 score...and he was not using video recording software either. any clues why did that happen? should i7 1.8ghz get better score than i5 1.7ghz? or you were running some other software while taking this video? thx
You are welcome. The more I'm using the machine the more I am pleasantly surprised. I've got Parallels up and running with Windows 7 Ultimate and it's running very very well.

@simon44 the faster one is 13 with 1.8GHz i7. Both enough for HD video editing.

@simon44 Do you know that you can configure the 13 inch so it could have 1.8 GHZ? You can do it, and it is very cheap. Try it.
iAppleseedy 6 months ago
@iAppleseedy Eh its €1679 for that model. That isnt cheap. Its only €1279 for the base model thats only 7% slower.

@iAppleseedy Because macbook pros are a lot heavier and more expensive.

just wondering, what would actually make the fans get that worked up during normal use?
tighmir 6 months ago
How did you measure the temperature and fan speed?
jasperpants 7 months ago
@jasperpants There is a widget called iStat pro it provides you with various info regarding temp. and fan speed.
momoz88 7 months ago
I did the same test and got about the same results. My CPU was approaching around 100 C and my fan was doing about 5500 RPM.

Hi, could you check if this new Air run 64-bit Kernel and Extensions in System Profiler?
I'm really concern about this because the old one didn't run 64-bit mode but have 64-bit CPU.
Thanks
