THE SUPREMES (1970'S lineup her is Mary Wilson, Jean Terrell, Cindy Birdsong) in this period were at their most vocally dynamic & diversified period of their tenure, Jean Terrell brought a new refresh sound and presence to the female trio that if Motown / Berry Gordy's priority wouldn't have been on the Diane Ross that needed them to be slowly laid to rest in order to Diane Ross thrive as a "solo" a fan base divided would have sunken both acts!
Today THE SUPREMES as they are inducted at "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum" are THE LEGACY Diane Ross has never been in ducted as a "solo" and because her track record towards THE SUPREMES never will!
In 2012 she will be given a Bon Voyage "Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY Award," the kind they give to dead or ready to retire earlier snubbed performers like her as a final slap on her face!
SpazChat for you to say that the other MOTOWN WHORE besides Diane Ross, Stevie Wonder & Berry Gordy's Syreeta was (she's dead) a better singer than Jean Terrell only clarifies your ignorance!
Berry & Diane wanted that mediocre "Wonder Love" reject to be the new lead of THE SUPREMES to assure their failure, something they were counting on and working towards!
The failed "solo" album that was released for Syreeta proves the publics indifference for the bitch!
SpazChat You wouldn't know your ass from your brain!
The name was changed in 1967 from THE SUPREMES to Diane Ross & The Supremes as part of the platform that was being set in place to create the Diane Ross "solo career"
Motown Berry Gordy "THE BOSS" was the other half of Diane Ross ADULTERER duo tha eventuallyt produced the BASTARD child known as Rhonda Silberstein Gordy Ross!
FLORENCE BALLARD was ousted because she would not go along THE CHARADE!
After Mary & Cindy made clear that Syretta will never be a Supreme and that they will go with Jean Terrell Barry Gordy's reaction, he told Mary, and I quote- "You are on your own" and that he did, HE SABOTAGE THEM EVERY INCH OF THE WAY to prove a point and indirectly by facing them out in stages benefit Diane Ross failure to launch stagnant beginning!
@TWTR4EVER , and who the fuck was Mary to defy the boss like that? Syreeta would have been a much better Ross replacement. Another bad business decision by Mary, what she's become famous for.
@ihatedumbfakehoes HDH went back to Motown because of the friendship with Mary Wilson FAMILY WITH BERRY GORDY that's an oxymoron still today they want nothing to do with him THEY REFUSED TO ATTEND AND PARTICIPATE ON "MOTOWN 25" in "Unsung" was on their terms & only Lamont attended!
Berry brought Jean Terrell to Motown after catching her performance with her bother , ex-boxer Ernie Terrell in Miami at The Fontainebleau Hotel after Mary's & Cindy's approval he backtrack and wanted Syretta Wright.
@ihatedumbfakehoes Apparently, you didn't read my other posts. The Supremes did not sabotage themselves. They were trying to promote themselves. Motown was the ONLY sabotagers in this game! Jean Terrell was his worst nigtmare and Mary wasn't going to back down and fire her. Jean just had enough of the games Berry/ Motown were playing. So she left. It wasn't by any doing of Mary or any of the other Supremes!
@ihatedumbfakehoes Let's not get me started on how he treated poor Jean Terrell. He wanted her out of the group from the very first day! All because he couldn't sleep with her with his SHORT, FAT, BALD, UGLY ASS!!! She had his number and she knew what he was doing all the while. Berry thought he had another opportunistic "YES" girl like his "CONCUBINE", Diane(Ooops..., I've said something bad). Instead, he got an intelligent, sophisicated version of FLORENCE!
@ihatedumbfakehoes When I met Mary Wilson back in 1990, I asked her one question that I was curious about. One of my family members bought a wig in South Carolina and she said, "It was from the Supremes' collection" back in the early to mid 70's. I've asked Mary about that marketing promotion and were there others? She said, she was court ordred by Berry /Motown to cease all self promotional distribution & marketing of all products for the Supremes. He did not try to help them at all!
@ihatedumbfakehoes Each female has told their story of being in the Supremes in several articles. One being Ebony magazine and Scherrie and Lynda has several accounts of their experiences with being in the group and what Motown/Berry neglected to do for them. You'll find other books in where they both discuss the group/Berry and Motown. Scherrie Payne even had an article in a Oct. 1973 issue of "Right On" magazine in where she tells her story of how she became a Supreme.
@ihatedumbfakehoes Even Sherrie Payne herself told her own story of how she was introduced to the Supremes through her then boyfriend/fiance' Lamont Dozier. If you knew anything about Holland-Dozier-Holland, you would know that they left Motown on a sour note. They were the principle songwriting team for the majority of all the Motown talent in the 60's. When they successfully sued Berry/Motown, they started their own record company and guess who was one of their talents? Yes, Scherrie Payne.
@ihatedumbfakehoes Granted, I'm not a fan of hers, but I didn't say anything about her this time. I just couldn't tolerate the lies you said you got from other sources and all the sources I've read contradicts yours in every way. For instance, how ScherriePayne became a Supreme; you've tried to credit Berry, when he didn't even want her in Motown and other lies about how Berry tried to help the new Supremes when in fact, he sabotaged them in every way he could. I just couldn't tolerate the lies.
"Bill, When Are You Coming Back" by The Supremes (Mary Jean, Cindy) was wasted in the flip side of "Up The Ladder To The Roof" one of the top Anti-Vietnam War of its day! This a perfect example of what exasperated Jean from the beginning and made it clear to her the fact that Berry/Motown were not protecting The Supremes as they did during Diane's tenure!
Jean within 3 years would get fed up and depart the group together with Lynda Laurence!
@ihatedumbfakehoes Berry "THE MOTOWN SLAVE OVERSEER" Gordy sold Motown because by the way he treated his artist who many abandon the label, Four Tops, Temptations, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Michael Jackson, The Jacksons even Diane "THE BERRY GORDY MOTOWN WHORE Ross jumped ship and went to RCA Records and when she didn't deliver
and got canned had to come crawling back to Motown and the real "BOSS" Berry Gordy whose song "THE BOSS" is really dedicated to but by then Motown had lost its luster
@ihatedumbfakehoes It was either sell it or lose it in bankruptcy. Either way, he loses it. Tell the whole truth. BTW, I don't answer stupid questions that are silly to me. I don't get into juvenile immature name calling. That's so CHILDISH!
@Calvin375 WE both know that Berry Gordy from late 1970's to mid 1980's had run Motown to the ground and all the great acts had deserted him starting with The Spinners who he kept under contract and did nothing for them, when they left they became a hit, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Martha Reeves, Glady's Knight & The Pips, Michael Jackson, The Jacksons, Diane Ross, for heaven sake left for RCA Records!
@TWTR4EVER That is all true. In fact, Gladys Knight admits she never even wanted to go/sign with Motown at all. Her departure from Motown was not hard at all. They made more hits after leaving Motown than they would've if they'd stayed. Joe Jackson may had been a hardass on his sons, but he saw the ship sinking and they all abandoned it and became a bigger success than they already were. When Teena Marie left Motown, her management helped her successfully sue Motown for monies that was owed her.
@ihatedumbfakehoesI've never said she was an angel and I've never made her out to be one. I believed I've said she was missing rehearsals, drinking all the time and arguing to get her point across. Although, I do not condone any of her self destructive methods, I understand the cause of her plight. As for your lord and saviour, Berry Gordy, he sealed his own fate when he lost Motown. He also was sued several times and blacklisted. That's not hating, it's just the TRUTH. Deal with it.
@Calvin375 Holland / Dozier / Holland sue the shit out of Berry Gordy / Motown and prevail, left and form Invictus / Hot Wax who gave Berry for a while a run for their money (Freda Payne, Honey Cone, 100 Proof, Glass House, Chaiman Of The Board) until Berry Motown through PAYOLA made their material shelved in the markets he controlled, but The Sound Of Philadelphia will prove to strong even for his tricks and marked the beginning of the end of Motown!
@TWTR4EVER You are so right!!! I've forgot all about that! That's why he didn't want Scherrie Payne because of her associatons with the Holland brothers and her relationship with Lamont Dozier and she was in the group Glass House on Invictus Records. Miss "Crumbs Off TheTable" wasn't wanted by Berry because of the successfull lawsuits of HDH! But Berry didn't have a say of who Mary would hire, but the obvious sabotage would be in full swing for the Supremes because of Mary's defiance once again
@ihatedumbfakehoes What does the TRUTH have to do with success? Lots of people are successful and they also used and backstabbed others to get there; Is that called true success or is it selling one's soul to gain the whole world? You have a lot to learn about the TRUTH and real success. If Berry was so successful then how come he and Motown have been "successfully" sued by other ex-Motown artists? He also lost his famed Motown 22-25 years ago due to his mismanagement. You reap what you sow!
@ihatedumbfakehoes ABOUT YOU ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT IGNORANCE IS BLISS, AND YOU LIVE IN BLISS!
There's nothing honorable regarding ETHICS, RACIAL LOYALTIES AND INTEGRITY AND FARE PLAY. About
Mr. Berry Gordy who was like a BLACK PLANTATION OVERSEER at Motown, were the ones regardless of talent on his good graces were given the best producers, songwriters and the backing of the MARKETING, PUBLICITY & DISTRIBUTION DEPARTMENT!
As you can't read start with the TV Show "UNSUNG" is here on YouTube!
@ihatedumbfakehoes For your information, I adore SUCCESS!!! What I don't care for is lies and total vanity and falsehoods. Everyone knows for a fact what Berry Gordy was at the time. In spite of his successes, he had a lot of pitfalls and downfalls when it came to Motown and the artists on the label. Why do you think the Jacksons left them in 1976? BTW, my life is beautiful and I love the truth. Are you afraid of the "TRUTH" or do you feed on the lies you tell and read?!
@ihatedumbfakehoes Berry didn't look for another lead singer for the Supremes in 1973. That was Mary's job. Her and her husband/manager Pedro and Lamont Dozier presented Scherrie Payne to them since Lamont and Scherrie were an item at the time. Berry had nothing to do with the hiring or firing of any Supreme member in the 1970's. That was solely left up to Mary. When he told Mary "I washed my hands of e group", he meant it. Infact, Berry didn't even want Scherrie in the group.
@ihatedumbfakehoes Oh no, you don't. I have Mary Wilson's autobiography and there's nothing in her book that ever states she and Flo were ok with Diane being the only lead singer and furthermore, she and Flo never would've agreed to any such arrangement if it was presented to them by Berry. That's an outright LIE!!! Why do you think Flo protested they way she did by missing rehearsals, drinking and arguing? Because she did not agree to any such arrangement!!! Don't tell lies to prove a point!
The facts that I'm interested came from The Holland Bothers, Lamont Dozier & Mary Wilson the rest of the Berry/Diane/Smokey manufactured propaganda fits right in your library!
@ihatedumbfakehoes THERE WAS NEVER AN "OFFICIAL LEAD SINGER OF THE SUPREMES" until 1966/67 after Diane got inside Berry Gordy's pants and set out ot change THE SUPREMES to Diane Ross & The Supremes (THE DIANE ROSS SHOW) that's were both Florence & Mary knew what they were up against, Florence unsuccessfully fought them every inch of the way nonetheless I'm not BIASED I never bought the Diane/Berry/Smokey version of the events that most people that were around know is a sanitize fabrication!
@TWTR4EVER The Diana Ross and the Supremes name change in 1967 was done for financial reasons. More money for two acts instead of one. Berry just thought it was perfect timing to make this change after canning Flo. This is also the time when they started always wearing expensive Bob Mackie and Michael Travis gowns
@ihatedumbfakehoes THE SUPREMES were always a "FEMALE TRIO" (all members share lead & limelight equally) Diane Ross soon after the first #1 "Where Did Our Love Go" in 1964 as soon as she became of age her SEX FOR STARDOM affair with Motown Berry Gordy was in full force by 1966/67 her first move was to have Florence Ballalrd replaced with Cindy Birdsong from here on she change the group to "LEAD & BACKUP SINGERS" with her on the forefront the other forever under he shadow!
@ihatedumbfakehoes Mary & Florence after 1964 barely got to record in the forefront, live was different as both Florence & Mary can out sing Diane under the table, they were kept always in the background of Diane, Cindy NEVER shared leads until 1970 (THE SUPREMES-Mary, Jean & Cindy or Mary, Cindy & Scherrie)
I've been following THE SUPREMES since the 1960's and DIANE ROSS IS "THE POISON SUPREME"
@ihatedumbfakehoes THE SUPREMES as they are "INDUCTED" at The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame & Museum have been honored & recognized as THE LEGACY OF THE GROUP, the Hall Of Fame because of the long standing of Diane Ross abusive behavior towards her group members, her sexual affair with the studio head Berry Gordy that granted her preferential treatment changing the group dynamics by getting original member Florence Ballard ousted they denied her the recognition and iNDUCTION as a "solo"
@ihatedumbfakehoes I've never said Diane is not talented, unlike the Diane "DIE HARDS" whose critics of Florence, Mary and any SUPREME that's not Diane are constantly diminishing their accomplishments and talent regardless of the role that was imposed on them by Berry/Diane/Motown that turn them into "bookends" and voices were hardy heard as the platform for Diane's "solo caree" was been created.
Diane PROFESSIONALLY & PERSONALLY acted less than honorably and her deeds have caught up with her!
The State Of Ms. Lena Horne welcomes the participation of Ms. Mary Wilson together with the intensity, artistic & music value that her performance will bring to the project!
The State Of Ms. Lena Horne welcomes the participation of Ms. Mary Wilson together with the intensity, artistic & music value that her performance will bring to the project!
The State Of Ms. Lena Horne welcomes the participation of Ms. Mary Wilson together with the intensity, artistic & music value that her performance will bring to the project!
@ihatedumbfakehoes You sure have confused with TheReturnOfBigBear and his BAND OF MISFITS!
For me THE SUPREMES before Diane & Berry got rid of Florence Ballard and change the group into THE CHARADE of Diane Ross & The Supremes I WILL ALWAYS LIKE & MOSTLY after 1969 when Diane ABANDON THE GROUP and Jean Terrell was brought in and they went back to THE SUPREMES (1970's) THAT WAS MY FAVORITE LINEUP!
I HAVE NO PLACE FOR DIANE ROSS IN MY MUSIC CATALOG!
@ihatedumbfakehoes Berry "bite more than he could chew" with Jean Terrell, Mary Wilson & Cindy Birdsong, together they demanded what was promised when Diane was made "solo" and for Diane to take off he couldn't. The public were not as receptive to Diane Ross at the beginning as THE SUPREMES held their own, that created a problem to Motown Marketing/Publicity & Distribution as work on Diane was double ten fold & THE SUPREMES downscale to barely a basic B group coverage!
It took some very crafty work from Motown/Berry/Diane to create an aura of "FAKE FRIENDSHIP & MUTUAL AGREEMENT" on the separation of Diane Ross & The Supremes!
The arrival of Jean Terrell was plagued with controversy as after introducing her to Mary & Cindy, Berry wanted to change to Syretta Wright / WonderLove , Mary wouldn't have it, Jean after all the promises he made eventually will grow weary of his commitment to THE SUPREMES as she saw his true intention of facing out the group and left!
@ihatedumbfakehoes Let me explain something to you, If Berry Gordy/Motown would had fire or face out THE SUPREMES before Diane Ross was semi established as a "SOLO" her career would had TANKED even more than what it did at the very beginning! THE SUPREMES-"Up The Ladder To The Roof" / Billboard 100 Pop Chart Singles PEEKED # 10 versus Diane Ross - "Reach Out And Touch" / Billboard 100 Pop Chart Singles PEEKED # 20!
THE PUBLIC RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING "BACKED" The Supremes as they resented Diane!
@TWTR4EVER Where is he getting these terrible lies about how honorable Berry Gordy was to the Supremes?! Everybody in Motown and in the industry knew how shady, bias and unfair Motown was to its certain star talent. Berry even had AFTRA boycotting and black balling Motown in the 70's as stated by all the musician's in the industry that either worked for Motown at one time or still worked at Motown , as stated by Lynda Lawrence herself.
@Calvin375 Regarding Berry Gordy & Diane Ross having anything to do with THE SUPREMES after 1/14/1970 The Frontier Hotel in Las Vegas but trying to slowly face them out by neglecting Motown's backing of the group on PUBLICITY, MARKETING & DISTRIBUTION to speed up their exit is a fact, thinking that he was interested on their success an "oxymoron"
THE SUPREMES, destined to be vanished, better competition of what the FAKE GLITZY MIRAGE had to offered and could deliver would not be tolerated!
SILLY? TheReturnOfBigBear if anyone wants to see "schizophrenic vile pathetic in action" outside of YouTube & your true agenda at work Trashing both Mary Wilson & Florence Ballard in a ground breaking performance, AT THEIR BEST may I add, all they need to do is to GOOGLE "bigbear39ca The Supremes Hollywood Palace" and simply start reading!
There is one of your multiple SCREEN NAME and "Cybil" like personalities at work
Silly Miss TWTR, I`m just 1 person, Your Schizophrenic Dear, All those other people just exist in your head, Yes TWTR, for every Nasty Post you make about Diana Ross, i make one about Miss Mary, But I do like Jean!
@ihatedumbfakehoes Sorry, at 19 years old I suggest you star reading and not the MOTOWN, MARKETING & PUBLICITY PROPAGANDA!
THE SUPREMES were made the DIANE ROSS SHOW after 1966/67 when Berry & Diane agreed in creating a platform for a Diane "SOLO CAREER" the group was changed from a FEMALE TRIO (all members share leads & limelight) to LEAD & BACKUP SINGERS were Berry moved Diane to the forefront and Flo, Mary & later Cindy forever under her shadow!
@TWTR4EVER You mean to tell me we were debating with a 19 year old child who wasn't even born in any of the decades of the original Motown families?!!! He's still on his mother's breast milk! No wonder he didn't know what he was talking about!!! This child wasn't even born until 1992?!!! He needs to read the "REAL BOOKS" by Mary Wilson and then Flo's book "All that Glitters". Maybe he should stay up one night and watch the rerun of Flo on T.V. One's "Unsung". Maybe he'll get some insight!
@Calvin375 You're absolutely right "ihatedunbfakehoes" is not the brightest peg on the floor!
You known how it goes "Time might heal all wounds but also fogs reality for the ignorant willing"
This new generation of Diane Ross ROSSMANIA DRUIDS still buying the FAKE GLITZY MIRAGE and her long trail of BACKSTABBING CONNING DECEIT!
I guess you and I who have lived the saga since the mid 1960's, know the SEX FOR STARDOM of Berry & Diane that eventually ousted Florence and gave her a "solo career"
@TWTR4EVER Well, to tell you the truth, I wasn't born until 1969, but ever since I was a child, I've always heard the music of the original group, (Diane, Florence & Mary) and I loved their vocal sound. I'd later saw old clips of the original Supremes when I was about 10 and I was still a big fan of the latter-day Supremes growing up in that era. It prompted me to find out all that I could about the Supremes through several different types of mediums. I've also noticed in old video clips the ...
@TWTR4EVER the difference in the original Supremes and the Supremes of 1967 (DMC). There was a different dynamic in presence and vocal abilities. Where Flo and Mary were BUBBLY and OUTGOING and vocally they stood out even in the backgound. You can hear the strong vocal agility of Flo's beautiful 1st soprano. You also can hear both ladies over Diane in the video clips of "Nothing But Heartaches", "Help Me Mama" and they even come out strong on "Somewhere". They were a REAL group. Whereas...
@TWTR4EVER with the Diana Ross and The Supremes, the dynamic was anything but congenial or inviting. In fact, it was like the other ladis (Mary and Cindy) weren't even in a group at all. As everyone else also agreed, it was like they were the back-up singers for the DIVA! You can totally hear the difference in the vocals. While Mary's voice stood out in the background over Cindy's, it was still restrained due to th fact that Cindy did not have a very strong 1st soprano. The group wasn't the same.
@TWTR4EVERI've even met Mary Wilson herself at her second book signing in 1990 at Olsson's Book store in Washington,DC. She also said that it was very different singing with Cindy than it was with Flo and then Motown also put restrictions on what the ladies could do and what they couldn't do any longer on stage, camera as well as in public speaking. It became to her a one women show and they were the props. Though Cindy became a good friend and ally, vocally she just wasn't as strong as Flo.
@TWTR4EVER It doesn't hurt to educate yourself about a subject you don't know anything about, than to speak on something as if you know and you don't know anything aout it at all. It's like my grandmothers used to say "You don't know shit from shinola", and that I'm afraid, is the 19 yr.old ihatedumbfakehoes' problem. He doesn't bother to educate himself from the lies that are fed to him. You don't just stick with one source, you research others as well. Children are very LAZY these days.
ihatedumbfakehoes ...You hate hoes? You hate Diane Ross, SHE MAKES THE COMMON HOE LOOOK LIKE Mother Theresa!
Berry Gordy signed his pact with the devil when in 1966/67 he agreed with Diane's deal of SEX FOR STARDOM that ousted Flo & eventually delivered her a "solo career" (1969)
Berry's loyalty with THE SUPREMES ended the moment he had to make Diane's SOLO a success, HIS REPUTATION, MOTOWN'S REPUTATION were on the line, Diane's mother of his BASTARD (Rhonnda) success demanded THE SUPREMES gone!
@jazzscherzo Well, then you don't mind if we take over the world if we're so worthless. You think Obama is the end?!!! You aint seen nothin' yet!!! We already know that your kind is afraid of us and with good reason. You need to be!!! So long DICK SUCKING WHITE INBRED HO!!!
@jazzscherzo BITCH Your momma's pussy stank like your shit!!! Why don't you go and lick it clean!!! You DIRTY TRAILER PARK TRASH INBRED HO!!! You would know ALL about welfare since you are a recipient of it you LOWLIFE GUTTER SNIPE!!! I don't have the time of the day to spend on the website as much as you do. I have a career that keeps me occupied and can afford to live comfortably. So you keep your chump change you call tax dollars and SUCK YOUR OWN DICK!!! DIRTY HO FAGGOT ASS BITCH!!!
@jazzscherzo Then who am I BITCH?!!! Because you are"NOT EVEN A MUTHA' FUCKIN' FACTOR" to me at all you OLD LIFELESS HO"! You're DISMISSED just like that other "FOSSIL ASS BITCH Diane" who you call a singer! She's a HAS-BEEN who should have NEVER been if it weren't Flo. Diane needs to kiss the feet of Flo's grave to thank her for giving her a start! If it weren't for Flo, she would be irrelevent! Just like she's irrelevent TODAY! Face it, the BITCH is ANCIENT HISTORY like her failing career!!!
@jazzscherzo BTW, Aretha had three top 10 pop charted hits in her 40's in the '80's! "Freeway Of Love" in '83(Grammy awarded), " Who's Zooming Who" in '86 and "I Knew You Were Waiting For Me" w/ George Michael also Grammy awarded and it went No.1 on the pop charts as well. She was also invited to sing at President Obama's inauguration in 2009. She is still the QUEEN OF SOUL/SOULFOOD whether you like it or not! What is Diane queen of ? The bottle and DUI's!!! Blow that out your ASS!!!
@jazzscherzo BITCH I didn't say anything about a hit on the pop charts you ASSHOLE! I said a cd in 2007 with Fantasia. Get the prescription on your glasses renewed you OLE' ASS SENILE FART!!! And I didn't say anything about Aretha having a record after 40 STUPID ASS!!! I said she has over 50 years experience in the business. You still haven't answered my question about the last time Miss Bitch Ross even had a cd that charted anywhere outside of a bargain bin?!!! YOU UNEDUCATED PIECE OF SHIT !!!
@jazzscherzo WTF are you talking about with your non educated self?!!! Aretha is the "QUEEN OF SOUL" her career went well into 2007 which was the last cd she came out with Fantasia on "Let Me Put You Up On Game". Before that she had a hit with Lauren Hil in 1997 with a "Rose Is Still A Rose". When was the last time Diana had a hit again?!!! Aretha's career started when she was 17 in the 50's and has lasted for over 50 years with 18 grammy awards and 17 Top 10 hits since 1968! And Diane has..?!
@bigbear39ca That's an outright lie!!! Jean has been to Mary's shows in the past several years as her guest. I have the pictures to prove it. Now refute that!!! If you would like them, I'll send them to you and anyone else. Just because you don't like Mary, don't start vicious rumors and lies about her character as a person!!!
@Calvin375 FYI-bigbear39ca has many different YouTube accounts, the ones he uses more are TheReturnOfBigBear / OnLineAdministrator1/ blkshepherd & his more vile of them old "marystwat" this scumbag can be found in most of THE SUPREMES(1970's post Diane Ross) certainly in all Mary Wilson videos trashing her while he elevates Diane Ross!
@TWTR4EVER I'd figured it was someone who didn't know what they were talking about. Because it's very hard for one personality to keep up with what the other personalities are saying or doing!
the girls knocked this one the hell out of the ballpark, I had so may good times in my life on songs of this genre, saw them whenever I could, what a show 'Stoned Love', Im Gonna Let My Heart Do The Walking'', Nathan Jones, Floy Joy' Your My Driving Wheel' Jean, Susaye, Mary, Cindy, Lynda, & the little lady with the big voice Scherrie kept the legacy going in style.
Hey Detroit, If Diana Ross is Nothing, Where does that Leave Miss Mary?, In a Reirement Home for Long Lost & Forgotten Former Marvelettes & Vandellas?
Every time I revisit these post-Diana Supremes gems, I am sickened all over again by how this lineup just didn't get promoted. THEY WERE FIERCE. These SONGS were fierce. They had class, and style, and melody, and harmony, and Motown wasted it. It was a criminal act in the first degree, and galls me, esp when I hear so much crap that DID get promoted to hit status. These girls deserved better...
Apparently growing up in Chicago had its advantages - this was a top 10 hit the summer of '72, I remember it fondly - in fact, I think it was one of the first non-Diana Supremes 45s I owned. Now I have great love and reverence for them all, and if I can't have Diana, Mary & Cindy back for a tour, I'd be happy with Jean, Mary & Cindy.
How's this for research....you said TWTR4EVER didn't have proof that Motown was involved in sabotaging the careers of Jean Terrell & Florence Ballard, but how could that be possible if they were involved in payola (YES they were involved and Smokey admitted it)but not have the stroke to keep artists from getting airplay on the radio. It was easy, Motown was hot then, and if an artist left that label, it was easy to blackball them.YOU STOP BE AN ASS WITH A ONE TRACK MIND!
@jazzscherzo since you mentioned the GBWR, I checked their web site.....she's not even listed, so that kills your comment with that...and as far as talent.....debatable....remember the "Reunion" tour?....Nothing short of disasterous.....remember no one said that she wasn't talented....I said it was limited....and for the record, if everybody knew that Gladys discovered J5, why were they promoted like Diana discovered them for years until Marlon Jackson told the truth about it?
@jazzscherzo ask yourself one question......how many artists toes she stepped to have the career she had....for years she got credit for "discovering" the Jackson 5, when in fact it was Gladys Knight & Bobby Taylor who discovered them. Diana Ross was proof that if you promote and market someone with limited talent and do it right, they can be a star...Gladys Knight, Kim Weston, even Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard could sing circles around her...not hatin', just stating FACT!
Motown was never good at marketing groups like the Supremes after Diana Ross left......and I agree with TWTR4EVER, if she hadn't got knocked up with BG's kid, she wouldn't have had the career she had. She thought she would have been as big as Michael Jackson, but she never had a real hit since Marvin Gaye died and that's been 27 years now!
What a brillant sound these supreme divas had - this was a great group just as good as the orginal line- up - If you want all the history read both of Mary wilsons books - plus the Diana ross book and the Tony Turner book - and though all of that reading you will get a good picture that the only pretty thing was the singing - the girls looks and the gowns - the backstage stuff was a hot mess- REGARDLESS - The Supremes remain the best female group of all in all it's supreme lineups - very real
I remember when Cindy was kidnapped by some crazed apartment caretaker. He took her out of her apartment and forced her to drive from Hollywood, to Long Beach (which is roughly an hour long drive by freeway nowadays.)
Anyway, she got away by jumping out of the moving car. We all thought that this kidnap as well as Frank Sinatra Jr.s were hoaxes to get more fans....go figure.
this is really a great song,...for ANY Supremes incarnation...I'm shocked it wasn't a bigger hit in the US...interestingly, this was their final Top 10 hit in the UK...
Im sorry I saw both of them,I know that im gonna get talked about for saying this but Cindy was much better looking than flo to me,she had more sophistication, not an original but still a great legend !
Hey!So glad you enjoy it and certainly a pleasure to bring it to you! This trio was quite a formula that made great music together.Teamwork! And you're welcome!
I couldn't tell you the dynamics of the history for The Supremes being a Freda Payne aficionado myself. You can however get a lot of that information on the free Web source of Wikipedia.
I dont think it was so much the chemistry - when Berry Gordy was grooming Diana Ross for solo superstardom, he sort of lost interest in the Supremes as a group - and Mary Wilson, the group's sole original member, tried valiantly to make the group as big in the 70s as they were in the 60s - but without Motown or Berry Gordy's support, the group disbanded by 1977-
Much of this information is in Mary Wilson's two biographies, "Dreamgirl: My Life As A Supreme" from 1986, and "Supreme Faith: Someday We'll Be Together" from 1990 - the first book covers her time with the Supremes from its inception to Diana Ross' departure, and the second book covers her time with the new Supremes to their disbandment - both books are worth reading if you get a chance!
@christheone8773 To add to your information regarding Diane/BerryMotown it's worth noting that in 1970 The Supremes without Diane Ross released their first Billboard Pop Top 100 Single "The Supremes - Up The Ladder To The Roof" peaked at #10 "Diane Ross - Reach Out And Touch": peaked at a disappointing #20. This set in motion Diane/Berry more drastic plans when it was clear that in the public arena THE SUPREMES WERE THERE TO STAY! The Motown marketing & publicity will concentrate only on Diane!
@ekocentric Chemistry they had, Diana being Motown boss Berry Gordy's adulterer and mother of their "LOVE CHILD" Rhonnda had everything to do with the demise of The Supremes! From day one when their first Billboard Top 100 Pop Single "Up The Ladder To The Roof" charted higher than Diana's "Reach out and Touch" the plan of vanishing the group when into place, systematically by lack of publicity and marketing backing from Motown their fate was sealed! Diana's legacy today still THE SUPREMES!
@TWTR4EVER I love me some Diana, but what you said is the truth!!! Berry washed his hands of the group once he could focus on Miss Ross. Diana is a mega superstar, but many Motown artists paid for her success. Ever heard the Supremes "Bad Weather" written by Stevie Wonder?, it's funky as hell, but thanks to very little promotion me and only the Soul Train gang know of it. LOL!!!! Love those Supreme Lady's.
@MahoganyArchives The album "Promises Kept" (Bad Weather) when it was finally released recently (Hip-O-Select "This Is The Story The Supremes 1970's The Jean Terrell Years") still holds it own! Sad that Jean Terrell after Berry/Motown betrayal of The Supremes and prompting her departure to A&M was also sabotaged like Florence Ballard did via "PAYOLA" to Radio Stations not to play them from Motown/Berry to end their careers!
Dreamgirls!!!Like something so cool it came out of a dream? You bet'cha! It just goes to show that once the sensational Dianna Ross left the Supremes, the likes of Jean,Mary,Scherrie and others didn't miss a beat!!(pardon the pun)I'm glad you enjoy this classic gem! You're welcome too!
Diane Ross AIN'T ALL THAT!
TWTR4EVER 2 months ago
Today THE SUPREMES as they are inducted at "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum" are THE LEGACY Diane Ross has never been in ducted as a "solo" and because her track record towards THE SUPREMES never will!
In 2012 she will be given a Bon Voyage "Lifetime Achievement GRAMMY Award," the kind they give to dead or ready to retire earlier snubbed performers like her as a final slap on her face!
TWTR4EVER 2 months ago
SpazChat for you to say that the other MOTOWN WHORE besides Diane Ross, Stevie Wonder & Berry Gordy's Syreeta was (she's dead) a better singer than Jean Terrell only clarifies your ignorance!
Berry & Diane wanted that mediocre "Wonder Love" reject to be the new lead of THE SUPREMES to assure their failure, something they were counting on and working towards!
The failed "solo" album that was released for Syreeta proves the publics indifference for the bitch!

TWTR4EVER 5 months ago

Calvin375 5 months ago
@ihatedumbfakehoes Each female has told their story of being in the Supremes in several articles. One being Ebony magazine and Scherrie and Lynda has several accounts of their experiences with being in the group and what Motown/Berry neglected to do for them. You'll find other books in where they both discuss the group/Berry and Motown. Scherrie Payne even had an article in a Oct. 1973 issue of "Right On" magazine in where she tells her story of how she became a Supreme.
Calvin375 5 months ago
@ihatedumbfakehoes Even Sherrie Payne herself told her own story of how she was introduced to the Supremes through her then boyfriend/fiance' Lamont Dozier. If you knew anything about Holland-Dozier-Holland, you would know that they left Motown on a sour note. They were the principle songwriting team for the majority of all the Motown talent in the 60's. When they successfully sued Berry/Motown, they started their own record company and guess who was one of their talents? Yes, Scherrie Payne.
Calvin375 5 months ago

TWTR4EVER 5 months ago
@ihatedumbfakehoes It was either sell it or lose it in bankruptcy. Either way, he loses it. Tell the whole truth. BTW, I don't answer stupid questions that are silly to me. I don't get into juvenile immature name calling. That's so CHILDISH!
Calvin375 5 months ago
@Calvin375 WE both know that Berry Gordy from late 1970's to mid 1980's had run Motown to the ground and all the great acts had deserted him starting with The Spinners who he kept under contract and did nothing for them, when they left they became a hit, The Four Tops, The Temptations, Martha Reeves, Glady's Knight & The Pips, Michael Jackson, The Jacksons, Diane Ross, for heaven sake left for RCA Records!
Berry Gordy is the accidental Record Label CEO!
HDH made Motown, NOT HIM!
TWTR4EVER 5 months ago
@TWTR4EVER That is all true. In fact, Gladys Knight admits she never even wanted to go/sign with Motown at all. Her departure from Motown was not hard at all. They made more hits after leaving Motown than they would've if they'd stayed. Joe Jackson may had been a hardass on his sons, but he saw the ship sinking and they all abandoned it and became a bigger success than they already were. When Teena Marie left Motown, her management helped her successfully sue Motown for monies that was owed her.

Calvin375 5 months ago
@ihatedumbfakehoes Oh no, you don't. I have Mary Wilson's autobiography and there's nothing in her book that ever states she and Flo were ok with Diane being the only lead singer and furthermore, she and Flo never would've agreed to any such arrangement if it was presented to them by Berry. That's an outright LIE!!! Why do you think Flo protested they way she did by missing rehearsals, drinking and arguing? Because she did not agree to any such arrangement!!! Don't tell lies to prove a point!

Calvin375 6 months ago
Calvin375 6 months ago
Calvin375 6 months ago

Well Detroit, I just talked with God & he Said, Mary Wilson is The Daughter of Lucifer, (The Beast Master)

the girls knocked this one the hell out of the ballpark, I had so may good times in my life on songs of this genre, saw them whenever I could, what a show 'Stoned Love', Im Gonna Let My Heart Do The Walking'', Nathan Jones, Floy Joy' Your My Driving Wheel' Jean, Susaye, Mary, Cindy, Lynda, & the little lady with the big voice Scherrie kept the legacy going in style.

These girls deserved better...
njplr 8 months ago
@jazzscherzo Diane Ross is nothing today but a bad memory and a forgotten has been diva. Those are the facts.
DetroitLives313 8 months ago
Apparently growing up in Chicago had its advantages - this was a top 10 hit the summer of '72, I remember it fondly - in fact, I think it was one of the first non-Diana Supremes 45s I owned. Now I have great love and reverence for them all, and if I can't have Diana, Mary & Cindy back for a tour, I'd be happy with Jean, Mary & Cindy.
onecharmingbastard 10 months ago
How's this for research....you said TWTR4EVER didn't have proof that Motown was involved in sabotaging the careers of Jean Terrell & Florence Ballard, but how could that be possible if they were involved in payola (YES they were involved and Smokey admitted it)but not have the stroke to keep artists from getting airplay on the radio. It was easy, Motown was hot then, and if an artist left that label, it was easy to blackball them.YOU STOP BE AN ASS WITH A ONE TRACK MIND!
tljones9 11 months ago
@jazzscherzo since you mentioned the GBWR, I checked their web site.....she's not even listed, so that kills your comment with that...and as far as talent.....debatable....remember the "Reunion" tour?....Nothing short of disasterous.....remember no one said that she wasn't talented....I said it was limited....and for the record, if everybody knew that Gladys discovered J5, why were they promoted like Diana discovered them for years until Marlon Jackson told the truth about it?
tljones9 11 months ago
@jazzscherzo ask yourself one question......how many artists toes she stepped to have the career she had....for years she got credit for "discovering" the Jackson 5, when in fact it was Gladys Knight & Bobby Taylor who discovered them. Diana Ross was proof that if you promote and market someone with limited talent and do it right, they can be a star...Gladys Knight, Kim Weston, even Mary Wilson and Florence Ballard could sing circles around her...not hatin', just stating FACT!
tljones9 11 months ago
Motown was never good at marketing groups like the Supremes after Diana Ross left......and I agree with TWTR4EVER, if she hadn't got knocked up with BG's kid, she wouldn't have had the career she had. She thought she would have been as big as Michael Jackson, but she never had a real hit since Marvin Gaye died and that's been 27 years now!

What a brillant sound these supreme divas had - this was a great group just as good as the orginal line- up - If you want all the history read both of Mary wilsons books - plus the Diana ross book and the Tony Turner book - and though all of that reading you will get a good picture that the only pretty thing was the singing - the girls looks and the gowns - the backstage stuff was a hot mess- REGARDLESS - The Supremes remain the best female group of all in all it's supreme lineups - very real
ramona2400 1 year ago

Cindy Birdsong looks a lot like Florence Ballard in the middle. How funny since she was hired to take Flo's place.

Im sorry I saw both of them,I know that im gonna get talked about for saying this but Cindy was much better looking than flo to me,she had more sophistication, not an original but still a great legend !

These gals sounded just as good as when Diane was with them....why didn't they get as many hits as the originals? Do you think that it was chemistry?
ekocentric 2 years ago
I couldn't tell you the dynamics of the history for The Supremes being a Freda Payne aficionado myself. You can however get a lot of that information on the free Web source of Wikipedia.
kenesto 2 years ago
Interestingly enough, Freda Payne's sister, Scherrie, was a Supreme from 1973 to 1977 and was in the Diana Ross and the Supremes revision in 2000-
christheone8773 2 years ago
I dont think it was so much the chemistry - when Berry Gordy was grooming Diana Ross for solo superstardom, he sort of lost interest in the Supremes as a group - and Mary Wilson, the group's sole original member, tried valiantly to make the group as big in the 70s as they were in the 60s - but without Motown or Berry Gordy's support, the group disbanded by 1977-
christheone8773 2 years ago 2
An Interesting piece of information!Thanks!
kenesto 2 years ago
Much of this information is in Mary Wilson's two biographies, "Dreamgirl: My Life As A Supreme" from 1986, and "Supreme Faith: Someday We'll Be Together" from 1990 - the first book covers her time with the Supremes from its inception to Diana Ross' departure, and the second book covers her time with the new Supremes to their disbandment - both books are worth reading if you get a chance!
christheone8773 2 years ago
@christheone8773 To add to your information regarding Diane/BerryMotown it's worth noting that in 1970 The Supremes without Diane Ross released their first Billboard Pop Top 100 Single "The Supremes - Up The Ladder To The Roof" peaked at #10 "Diane Ross - Reach Out And Touch": peaked at a disappointing #20. This set in motion Diane/Berry more drastic plans when it was clear that in the public arena THE SUPREMES WERE THERE TO STAY! The Motown marketing & publicity will concentrate only on Diane!
TWTR4EVER 1 year ago
@ekocentric Chemistry they had, Diana being Motown boss Berry Gordy's adulterer and mother of their "LOVE CHILD" Rhonnda had everything to do with the demise of The Supremes! From day one when their first Billboard Top 100 Pop Single "Up The Ladder To The Roof" charted higher than Diana's "Reach out and Touch" the plan of vanishing the group when into place, systematically by lack of publicity and marketing backing from Motown their fate was sealed! Diana's legacy today still THE SUPREMES!
TWTR4EVER 1 year ago 7
@TWTR4EVER I love me some Diana, but what you said is the truth!!! Berry washed his hands of the group once he could focus on Miss Ross. Diana is a mega superstar, but many Motown artists paid for her success. Ever heard the Supremes "Bad Weather" written by Stevie Wonder?, it's funky as hell, but thanks to very little promotion me and only the Soul Train gang know of it. LOL!!!! Love those Supreme Lady's.
MahoganyArchives 1 year ago
@MahoganyArchives The album "Promises Kept" (Bad Weather) when it was finally released recently (Hip-O-Select "This Is The Story The Supremes 1970's The Jean Terrell Years") still holds it own! Sad that Jean Terrell after Berry/Motown betrayal of The Supremes and prompting her departure to A&M was also sabotaged like Florence Ballard did via "PAYOLA" to Radio Stations not to play them from Motown/Berry to end their careers!
