Personaly, I would had use an ajustement layer for the coloration effect and a layer mask to hide the colored part I want to take off. Like this, Its easier to work shape of the first layer :)

WIf you are talking about the magnetic lasso tool, just hold you click on the lasso, you'll see 2 other choices pop-out :)

Nice job, I'm pretty sure it's called the Sin City effect. I have a tut for this I never uploaded.

Thanks. I would have called it the sin city effect BUT the objects which i left coloured had various colours in them.

For example, take the last photo, the mans skin, hands and everything was coloured, whereas the sin city effect would only give you one colour out of a whole picture.
