Whatever "e health expert" (worlds most annoying voice) Im afraid the larvae will just lie doormat im going to try peroxide and any chemicals I can find. My plants havent been watered in over a week and house smells like bloddy vinegar !
i have some in my guinea pigs cage in my room, i clean her cage every 2 weeks which is quite often for most ppl but i still have a swarm of them! is there anyway i can get rid of them?
drying out the soil does not kill the larvae it makes them dormant, once watered they start feeding again, haven't tried the sand method, also hydrogen peroxide mixed with water fed to plants with top soil dry kills the larvae, the adults are not the problem. i
i have a gnats...threw out the peaches that over ripened. i've had an orchid plant since june 5. but the gnat problem didn't occur until the peaches. however, i haven't noticed any gnats flying around the plant.
@yolijwrites Most likely those critters were FRUIT FLIES and NOT gnats. Fungus gnats are attracted to organic matter in the soil around the base of the plants. Be careful not to overwater as that will attract them as well. :-)
Does the vinegar or wine also applies to indoor growing wheat grass, buckwheat and sunflower greens? My husband is about ready to kill me if I don't get rid of this pests, they're everywhere in the house now!
@magcassam try adding hydrogen peroxide to plants with dry top soil, (1 part peroxide to 4 parts water) this kills the larvae, yellow fly tape around the plants will kill the adults. If you dont mind adding chemicals, Malathion 50 kills both fly and larvae. if they are outside introduce the Hypoaspis mites a natural predator from these gnats. the cider vinegar method does work, also adding a banana peel into the vinegar ensures they are attracted. Gl, I too hate these gnats
Try water with some dishwashing liquid and olive oil. I put some in a bowl next to my plant an hour ago and already caught four of the little b'stards.
@subhashveena1 no u can touch them, like she said in the video tease the roots because that will encourage the roots to grow out and become bigger. light is bad for the roots tho
@psychodelicdragon you have knats, but no plants? What should you do? Take a shower! Nah, Im jk! On occassion, I get the SAME problem. They were coming from my kitchen sink &/or garbage can. I used extremely hot water, ran it for 4 min & used the drain plug.
I like how she's removes the plant and shakes off the fungus gnat infested soil, RIGHT next to her new soil. She doesn't wash her hands before even touching the new soil. The possibility of her simply transferring larvae and flies is greatly increased. Take your plant, remove it from the pot while outside, spread the dirt around a tree or something, gently rinse the root system with warm water, go back inside, re pot with new unopened soil. Keep separate from your other plants.
hello i need some advice if anyone can help. i have a house plant and it has gnats and in the soil is these little round yellowish things that look like eggs... i was wonder do i have to get a new pot and soil what should i do to solve this issue thanx
She is 100 percent wrong!!!!!!!!! Use neem oil mixed with warm water and soap, Drentch the soil, this will kill the eggs and gnats/. Then wrap pot in plastic and seal it air tight. Use a coffee filter cut a hold in plastic and tape cut filter to the hole. This will allow u to water and roots to get air with keeping everything out. She dont garden but I do!!!!!!!!!
@silverpizza100 Could you make a video demonstrating how to use the neem oil mixed with soap and water, wrapping the pot in plastic and the coffee filter method for killing the gnats and their eggs? It would be very helpful to see how its done.
Woah U do way much for some gnats. Just spray the base of your plants with non-oil dish soap and water the gnats will dissapear. Or buy Diatomaceous Earth for soil it pretty much kills any aphid for GOOD!
i hate fungas nats and aphids. i have a professional spray the locations first it proffesinal sprays you cant get at stores, both outside and inside. then i grow plants indoors. and get 1,000 lady bugs. lady bugs will eat fungas gnats and aphids.
the only sure way to get rid of them--general hydroponics AZA-MAX ,2 applications 9 days apart will kill them all-dont even waste your time with neem oil, yellow sticky traps.drying out soil-sprays etc,
aza max is made from neem oil,,,, Mix you neem oil a little thicker and use warm water, then seal the pot air tight, use coffee filter for air excange and u can water it as well, just cut a hole in plastic and tape the filter to in, pour water on filter to water it,,, should help reinfestation.
neem oil...any type of chemical synthetic or organic wil slow down/effect plants. i dont use any chemicals. get 1,000 lady bugs. then will eat all fungas nats and aphids
(con't) rogue gnats still about, they will get back into the pots as the bottom watering will work its way up to the top sand, rendering it damp, then cracking appears and gnats find their way back in. So after about 4 weeks I hot watered/sand topped again and now all gnats have gone completely. It'sa two stage process, it does work eventually. The hot watering did not damage the roots, they are hardy, I have pepper, basil, strawberries, all fine.. Good luck !
I had an infestation of gnats with my chilli pepper plants, it took me quite a white to get rid, but they are now gone. I tried lots of things, bowls of vinegar, lemon juice with w/up liquid, spraying with neem, nothing was working..until someone suggested hot water rinsing. I completely doused each plant in hot water & let drain, the hot water KILLS the lavae, which is the real problem, After a few hours, then topped with sand (play), I also used fly papers. If u find u have (con't)
i was recently told by a few sources that fungus gnats do not harm plants. they are just annoying and resilient. I have organically gotten rid of white flies & fruit flies but the gnats I only slowed down with yellow stickies. Mixing the soil only gets adults, but misses the tiny eggs/larva. Microwaving it kills everything but its a bit of a burden to do to 20+ pots then repot. Carnivorous plants(venus fly trap) ,like wine and vinegar ,seem to attract more bugs than they kill.
btw, vinegar/ wine are bait for fruit flies. It can draw more pests from outside. Then you will have Gnats and fruit flies. i found this out the hard way.
My Cape Sundew (carnivorous plant) had an infestation of the little buggers. They soon became plant food, and I don't see them anymore. Why kill them off, when you can feed a plant with them? :D
wait ,..nevermind ,just got it=) . I used the sand trick today on basil after i microwaved the soil for about 5 minutes to kill off the buggers. i hope it works
Thank you so much. I am not exactly sure what the pests are, but there are a lot of them on my new pepper plant I am growing and I hope this technique gets rid of them. - Devon James
