@byemynameishi yes Billy Preston payed since the Let it Be sessions (before and during hte album). George Harrison invited Billy to play because when another person was around the Beatles fought less
@QueenBeatlesWings he would have been playing since they were called the get back session, wouldn't he? I knew everything you just said, but I didn't know if he had been in the rooftop concert or not. I think he was, but I can't seem to see him anywhere.
I appreciate that everyone has a favorite Beatle but let's also remember, without one of them the whole sound would have been different. Better? Possibly but we will never know and that's for the best cause it could have been for the worse.
The colaboration between the 4 is what made them as great as they were. The direction thier lives took cause of Georges deep interest in India, etc.
@omga14 thank you! i hate it when people say, "this one's the best!" when it really doesn't matter.. I mean I used to have a favourite but i realy can't decide now! they're all awesome, and amazing..
The problem with Billy being named the "Fifth Beatle" is that, despite the fact that this was the case, he only really contributed to their music during the "Let It Be" era. Still, Billy was a cool guy. R.I.P.
its sad how reality changed. John always did funny faces or whatever when a camara was on him.. now he just looks at it like thinking how bad the things are going
Those poor cops... really you know deep down as individual people they just wanted to let the Beatles play! ;-) ... but their role in society was to keep the normal order of things and so they were obliged to act in some way... I feel sorry for the cops here.
@shanenorberg: Altogether they played for about 45 minutes. I've seen the time that they started noted somewhere but I no longer remember. It appears that the shop girls, tailors and bankers of Saville Row are out on their lunch break--so perhaps midday.
i av a theory that the beatles were the 1st punk band,...and its true, the pistols didnt even av the old bill stoppin them play,...they did get nicked on the thames though,.........
@TheStoomie Anyone can utter such meaningless words whilst playing a tune. Writing down meaningful words to a beautiful melody is a true mark of a genius. He was a genius because of that and not because of this comedy moment.
The fact that quite amazes me is that Abbey Road was a magnum opus in music history as well as very much a milestone, and The Beatles only recorded it as closure to their career.
The Beatles were the greatest band to ever perform and record. Hands down; bar none.
Agree or not, it has been stated that Yoko did contribute to a lot of change in the Beatles, and whether that caused the break-up or not is up to interpretation. I mean, George and Ringo repeatedly say that they'd had enough, but Yoko also wanted John to herself, and saw The Beatles as a whole as an obstacle to that goal. I think events pulled on the frail string holding The Beatles together at that point and it just snapped and they'd had enough; they'd had an eventful career.
They thought it would be a shame to end the story with the mess the Let It Be project turned out to be, so they decided to make a decent album with George Martin in old style to finish the band with.
They felt good during the sessions because they knew it was their last work together, so they could enjoy it. The pressure of being forced together was gone.
They didn't know it would be their last album together from Paul's point of view. He has said many times that John told them several months after Abbey Road was recorded that he wanted to leave, and their jaws all dropped - his words. That was the first time it was ever brought up. George Harrison subsequently said he thought that it was over after Abbey Road, but apparently he was speaking for himself.
Both George Martin and Ringo were also quoted as saying that at the time they were pretty sure when making Abbey Road that it would be the last - although both said that no one ever said as much at the time.
for all those saying that yoko ono wasn't the reason the beatles broke up, go look up "the real john lennon". its a documentary and based on the info, yoko is part of the reason.
So what if one documentary states something? All anyone has to go on is statistics and words. Personally, the Beatles' words are good enough for me and they say that Yoko wasn't the only problem. Blaming Yoko is what people do so that they don't have to admit "the Beatles weren't so chummy anymore"
AngryWhiteGurl, I´ve have heard that the idiot who complained to stop the performance was the mannager of the Royal Bank of Scotland office site in front of Apple Studios in Savile Row.
I was in London in 1992 and there was that office.
I,ve heard this on a contest about The Beatles by the spanish journalist Jesús Hermida (a great Beatle fan) in the spanish Television in 1989.
Imagine being one of those lucky people. Seeing the greatest band in the history of music perform for the last time. I wouldn't mind being one of the people singing Hey Jude on stage with The Beatles on that TV show either.
i think that John and Yoko wanting to spead all their time together is so romantic. I'm not a Yoko fan, but i hate when people say that they hate her. It really wasnt her falt that The Beatles broke up!.

My views on the whole Yoko and the break-up thing.
I agree with Flamer2203 a lot.
Whether she was a factor or not who cares? It wasn't just her, it was many other factors.
It was there time to end, and they knew it. I think bands should look up to The Beatles in that aspect. Bands never know when it's time to quit.
The Beatles will always be legends and always be remembered.
