A had some idea of how good a bassist he was, but I had no idea he was as good as that. He reminds me some what of Victor Wooten, only Rob is more rythmic.
it is you idiot..slapping the bass and making a fast, notable sound like hes doing is a very technical skill. you know absolutely nothing. youre probably one of those idiots whos plays gh2 and thinks theyre a musician. ive been playing for 8 years now, and sure, i can play, but getting to that point takes alot of practice. plus the guy cant move his middle finger on his strumming hand. so gtfo faggot.
@DzDeadly1 Why don't you open your mind a little bit and start listening to music with reason behind it, instead of blindly being fed corporate influenced unoriginal consumer music on mtv2. I'll give you a few starting points. Tosin Abasi, Guthrie Goven, Pat Metheny, Allan Holdsworth. It will most likely take you a few years to realize what these musicians are doing considering you're not that bright -- but you'll understand some day. Ciao kiddo.
@Notespompon music with reason behind it?.....wow now thats a statement... what "reason" do you see behind those musicians you mentioned in your comment?.. ok i admit Abasi is awesome on the 8 string, but Holdsworth and Govan?.... come on what meaning or reason is behind their music?.... some shredding to a set of drums?
excuse us mister master slap bass player. the guy can't move his middle finger from his left hand, that's why his technique is sloppy. and the reason he's an amateur is because in post-2000 metal the bass is only for the low background of the song, whereas slap is a technique meant for showing off :) this guy just wanted to entertain his fans
when i see robbie play bass and shanon and sully play the drums it makes me wish i started a different instrument other than guitar but i love my guitar tho to.
If you want it C G C F then you have to make it so the 9th fret on the E string sound the same as an open A string. Then you have to make it so that the open A string sound the same as the 7th fret on the E string. Then the other strings you just 5th fret A string = open D string and then 5th fret D = open G. Or you could just tune every string a step down and then tune the E string like you would drop D :p Hope this helps
@spencershortyman Agreed, I was thinking the same thing, maybe they should be the first band to make hard jazz, or heavy jazz. That would be so sick! HEAVY METAL JAZZ!!!!!
Merrill just released a sick DVD packed with rare photos and videos jam sessions with a special guest and long interview shot on some pretty sick setYou should definitely check it out
im not an expert drummer so im probably gonna get slammed on this but...sully is a little better because he didnt keep it simple like someone said, i mean form what i saw shannon didnt play badass bongos, and besides sullys can sing too =o hes got suck an awesome raw voice
Sully and shannon are both formidable drummers! Their first CD is all Sully on drums. Im a huge fan of Sully, and I hate to admit it but Shannon is the better drummer. watch the battle of the drums video its on here somewhere on youtube.
Personally, I think Robbie Merrill is one of the top bass players around. Like Ethermouse said, he doesnt get the credit he deserves, and all bass players alike. He's an amazing bass player.
Credit where it's due - I never would have guessed that Robbie had this in him based on the lines he plays in Godsmack. He's certainly someone who hit the woodshed pretty hard in a multiple of styles before joining a metal band.
That is very impressive, I wish I knew how to play like that, I am a bass player but I don't know how to play like that........by the way, I'm right handed
i think its cool that he can pull it off with only 4 strings.plus i met him on tour in 2000 and he was super dowm to earth and even let me (roadie ) jam on his lefty bass for a sound check and gave me a couple of packs of strings.. thanks brobbie!!
He's not cocky. robbie doesn't get the credit he deserves, like many bass players. He's the niicest guy in the group and so what if he wants a little attention hes fuckin awesome.

No harm done then (but the point was very (impossible? lol) hard to get in teh beginning). But is that what you say about every big rock band or specificly for Godsmack? In that case, where did you get that info?
It's not any info I looked up. Dude look at them, listen to their music. They were no book worms in school, they were fucking badasses lol. Probably Sully especially according to his book. Evidently he grew up in the bad part of town with gangs and violence.
