To be fair the selector switch which you have surrounded by a red circle clearly represents a "saw/square" option. That aside nice breakdown again, keep up the good work .(Amen)
my favorite kind of synthesizer for electronic music. it's not used a lot today. it was used for some non electronic styles, then it became a very important addition to hip hop, electro (electro funk), acid house, acid techno, breakbeat, drum n bass, acid trance, goa trance, psytrance and some hardcore styles.
Very well researched documentary, however whenever there is an image the background goes a weird grey colour and then it sort of fades, really annoying and makes it difficult to see the picture. Perhaps because it's on YouTube? I enjoyed watching this and have learneed much. Thank you.
around 1987 i gave my 303 and my 606 to the janitor, told him they were good for swatting large insects. i didn't know they were destined to become treasures.
Wow, they achieved what is possibly the impossible, by creating the most boring documentary ever on such a colourful history of an amazing subject matter! How?!!
So today, we have computer software consisting of representations of a 3 dimensional interface on a 2 dimensional screen being controlled by a 3rd party hardware so as to emulate the sound of a machine built over 20 years ago, wich was itself built to emulate the sound of a machine built over 30 years before it. I fucking love acid house maaaaaan...
this comes across like it was written and spoken by a computer without having checked for errors....sine wave ? Come on, probably 50% of 303 tunes use the square wave, it's the first thing you'd know if you cared about what you were talking about
If you actually knew what you were talking about, you'd know you're wrong. Its not because you have the option to select between saw or square that there is no square mixed in (yes, by design)
@dudearlo You could probably filter a triangle wave and get a faux-sine. I don't think you'd have much luck making a saw or pulse sound like a sine with just a lowpass.

Now, now, the Prodigy's Smack My Bitch Up used "TB-303 GROWLER" from Korg Prophecy and not a TB-303.

TrowbridgeHardcore 3 months ago
@TrowbridgeHardcore Not to mention TB-303 wasn't on Smack My Bitch Up at all. :)
theeltea 3 weeks ago
@theeltea well the main lead was a heavily distorted saw wave so it could of been used, wouldent surprise me if it was 101 tho

@ceephaxacidcrew @sirthomasjensen technically its a half inverted saw alough sounds pretty identical to a square

The video never mentioned the fact of Daft Punk's influence of TB 303. I never have heard such amazing basslines from a house band.
numanuma20 5 months ago
mc-303 has absolutely nothing to do with TB-303, but the number "303". It is not an "improved TB-303". Very poor documentary.

@AnthonyDavid94 TB-303 GROWLER, to be exact! Glad I'm not the only one noticing that!
theeltea 3 weeks ago
@theeltea They did use an actual 303 in Weather Experience for example though. but yeh, Prophecy :)
AnthonyDavid94 3 weeks ago
The two wave forms you can switch between are sawtooth and square wave, not sine.

@sirthomasjensen isnt a sine wave obtained through a filter?
dudearlo 2 months ago
@dudearlo No. You could run a sine through a filter but it wouldn't make much sense because sines don't have harmonics to filter.
dronehymns 3 weeks ago
@dronehymns can you run a saw or pulse wave into a lowpass to get a "fake" sine wave?
dudearlo 3 weeks ago
@dudearlo You could probably filter a triangle wave and get a faux-sine. I don't think you'd have much luck making a saw or pulse sound like a sine with just a lowpass.
