the fact that Hingis who really only played top tennis from 2000-2002 and is number 10 shows just how amazingly consistent she was during those 5 years...
man though this list is so crap compared to the others, Tennis lost it's soul when it became ball bashing boringness...
@kimskis Mainly cause Clijsters made so many finals, and semi-finals. If this list was just about Grand Slam wins, you could just look it it up on Wikipedia, thats why i factored in runner-up performances and so on.
Sorry but I disagree. I mean Thomas Johannson and Andy Roddick have won the same amount of grand slams, but who do you think history will favour, with remembering???
your example is extreme. Johansson is definitely a one slam overachiever wonder, Roddick is a total underachiever. With no Fed around he would have 4 or 5 slams at least.
I feel that Capriati, Sharapova and Mauresmo are as popular and well known as davenport. :)
Yeah, and Davenport has been at the top of her game since 1997!, and has been conistent and has dealt with and beat, Hingis, Novotna, Seles, Capriati, Venus, Serena, Sharapova, Henin, Clijsters, Ivanovic, Jankovic, and all the others that came during her playing times, she was consistent and at the top, it's a shame that she didn't win more slams, but she did give a lot of players a run for their money, and a lot of close matches...
@vosharap her overall number of tournaments won, weeks spent at number 1 reflect that, but her slam number is still low though. Serena has 19 tournaments less than Davenport but 4 times as many slams. Still love Lindsay who is one of my all time favorites with Monica Seles :)
Yeah, it was sad to see that she ended her career with only 3 grand slams, she deserved another at LEAST 3 more, the only thing that she didn't have like the other players was that she wasn't as fast as them, Venus, Serena, and Clijsters, JUMP around the court whilst Davenport just doesn't, but she is still a great player overall. I felt really bad for her during the 2005 Wimbledon Final against Venus, where she had match point, I even felt bad and Venus is my favorite player of all time...
@vosharap yeah, I watched that match, it was a hreatbreaker because both needed this win so badly, with davenport winning her last slam in 2000 and Venus in 2001. I felt whoever would win would be back on track for several slam wins. It was Venus...
Venus Williams before Henin ? Davenport before Sharapova ? WTF !

how did you calculate ?
davenport has 1 slam in the 2000s to Capriati 3, Sharapova 2, Mauresmo 2...
and Henin has a better record than williams, tied 7-7 in slams, but many more weeks spent at number one.
No doubt serena is number one though :)

My calculations are based purely on grand slam results. I look at the winners, runner-ups, semi and quarter finalists from the decade.
Davenport had a lot of consistent results early in the decade, so yeah...

understand, though history remembers winners only, you know... ;)
