  • Is it possible i've heard Schiff taking a wrong note in 2:45?!?!?! It does sound like a part of the harmony...I don't know, i don't have the notes in front of me.

  • awesome, from very begining

  • Maybe it's heresy, but I vastly prefer Schiff's performance to Gould. It's fast, expressive and dynamic, plus Schiff seems to communicate much better with the orchestra than Gould did.

Gould is a great pianist that has been elevated to deity-like status by rubes who confuse his weird ticks and OCD with superhuman genius. It's the "troubled genius" stereotype taken to its extremes, probably by the same people who call John Nash the greatest mathematician to walk the earth.

  • @yersi Well said! I thought Gould was pretty awesome until I realized that the guy was humming and signing as he was performing.

  • @yersi now isn't that special that you should lower yourself to communicate with the great unwashed,,,now why don't you just wrap your scarf around your distinguished neck and take a hike

  • Wonderful ! Really ! It's just a shame that it was not a harpsichord... for Bach is much better.

  • Please, may some well-endowed millionaire who is watching this, make a very large donation that will make all of these videos free to the public...

  • What is wrong with me? If you think this is an even a marginally adequate performance of this piece, you are what Aristotle refers to "unteachable"...akin to a natural slave.

  • Awful...not Glenn Gould

  • @andros47 Maybe not Gould. But awful?!?!? Really?! What is wrong with you?

Great performance. Very articulate and dynamic.

  • Could I ask people who can play the piano on a scale of 1-10 how differcult is this peice to play ?

To my untrained ear it sounds like one has to keep pace with the music and if you make a mistake theres no way back.

When I have listen to Glenn Gould play this concerto it's sounds like he is spot on every note and the pace is perfection.

Am I right in my thinking that Glen Gould plays like God and the rest are trying there best ? or have I got it wrong and anyone can play this concerto ?

  • It's funny how modern electronic music is so influenced by Bach.

  • @lauriran exactly dude. If only people loving garbage music could understand it...

  • @omoshiroidayo Simply... Piano is so beautiful

  • I love the way he doesn't seem to be using any sustain pedaling

  • thats what i call a string fiftet

  • BAIT CHANNEL

  • What a great concerto! Bach was a true genious, no doubt about it

  • Heck, they should just put in commercials. Be a lot simpler.

  • The one who dislikes this masterpiece might only love GaGa or 50 cents.

  • Ive been playing this concerto since I watched Nodame cantabile movie. It's pretty awesome!

  • This KEYBOARD concerto sounds kinda, what is the word I´m looking for, DIFFERENT, with a piano as the solo instrument. Nevertheless, very well executed.

  • Who is the ONE person who disliked this????

  • @Pianista061292 probably the one who disliked the fact that you have to pay to watch full concerto

  • @Pianista061292 mozart, the zombie. but you have to forgive him, he doesnt know what good music is

  • Hahah this is sort of bizarre with a piano, yes - I think it's good to have multiple interpretations of a given work available, in any case (plus, it's played very well - it's almost like chamber music).

  • Ouch.

  • magnificent.

  • süper

  • MOAR!!

  • @whytheinternet Yes More! lol

  • Agree, but I like also the GV with Glenn Gould, and.... I made a recording with the GV on a barokk organ for many years ago.

A fantastic piece of music, so...... I will see if I can play this with organ next year under the EikerMusikkfestival. But I agree, this fits not on a piano.

  • great....

  • @sutherndudetx Bach was always interested in new pianos at that time, in 1733 he tryed 2 Silbermann-Pianos out, but didn't like the Diskant and the weight of the keyboard touch... in 1747 he enjoyed the new models :)

  • Hmmm... As far as I know, Bach didn't write for the piano.

But Bach's music plays well on many instruments. IMHO, you can take many of Bach's works and play them on almost any instrument, and you'll hear the fantastic music he wrote.

I think Bach wrote for the music, not for any particular instrument.

  • @sutherndudetx Didn't he write the Well-Tempered Klavier?

  • Are you sure Bach wrote for piano? I am not convinced,

  • @Classicalguy12 i agree with you, i'm pretty sure it was for harpsichord, i'm not convinced it's for piano.

  • @k73f Yes it was, I have played it, I am a harpsichordist....I'm pretty sure it was originally for harpsichord....piano does not fit the timbre of the Baroque era and should never be used, except maybe for private study ONLY.

  • @whomakemefeel You didn't understand my point, I don't want to argue with you, it wouldn't do any good. I'm just saying, Baroque works do not sound good on, and were never intended for the piano, and therefore should never be played on the piano. Before correcting my grammar, correct your own.
