Mamoru Ooshii (you know, that guy who made Ghost in the Shell), is also amazing, and very prolific. However, compare GitS to Patlabor. Patlabor is good and all, but it's no GitS. Arrogant? Perhaps. He's right, a lot of anime fans ARE pretty much autistic and have a very limited worldview, with no interests other than anime. If an animator is going to be an artist, they need to have other interests than anime as well. He's DEFINITELY right there.

I also don't blame him for saying "too bad". EoE is extremely personal and is based on a very hard time in Anno's life. If a fan doesn't like it, Anno doesn't owe him any apology.
Can I name other good things Anno made? Yeah, sure. Gunbuster is rough and not as accomplished as his later work, but it's still very good. Nadia of the Mysterious Ocean/Secret of Blue Water is fantastic.
I haven't seen his live action art films, but I want to.

I kind of agree with 2003JL, Hideaki Anno does have a fucking cheek, or maybe he isn't very good at expressing himself so he says the wrong things/does the wrong things. I mean, he didn't really explain most parts of the series/films so that may back up my point above.
The ending was a bit disappointing, but then again I always knew he was going to come back later one day and change it which is what he is going to do (I hope) in Rebuild of Evangelion 4.0 *Unknown name*.

As an avid eva fan, I can't help but state my love for the series... but at the same time, I find myself agreeing with you, 2003JL. I also love how you attack Anno in this vid, it makes me laugh balls. Perhaps in defense, I can say that from what I know about the industry, it's overflowing with deadlines, late-nights, grueling and often short-lived work.Many of these guys are pricks that need a more convenient avenue for creative ventures not just Anno. But you should always respect the fans!

I admire him for being willing to diss fans who are idiots. He's not against people enjoying his work, he's against people enjoying his work who are unable to properly appreciate it. Honestly, as anime directors go I think he's pretty humble compared to the likes of Miyazaki or especially Oshii. He's just a pissed off person. A really pissed off person. But I can't fault him for that. (I'm a pretty pissed off person myself.)

Anno is half insane. But I think I figured out how the whole series works around itself. Its way too complex to dicuss on youtube. IF you really want to know wth happened in EVA and why it has a cultlike following I can explain it just let me know. And by explain it what I really mean is give you my interpitation and analysis. 4 years worth of random moments of pondering on it. Miyazaki only makes movies that appeal to family/kids, all of his movies involve predictable and nice happy plot adventure etc. Sort of like Avatar - if watching simple kid stuff like that is your thing then that's fine, but I don't consider holding his thoughts back just to appeal to kids being a genius. I can never watch movies by Miyazaki more than once, it's a one time fun experience with the kids. Anno directed Eva perfectly, he's making fun of otaku failures, 5/5

The conclusion to Evangelion is right there in episodes 25 and 26, End of Evangelion is episodes 25 and 26 slightly more simplified for idiots like you who want all movies to be like Avatar I assume, a parent bringing their kid to see a movie experience thing. End of Evangelion was unnecessary, I never understood why Anno bothered. Oh well lolz

I think he loves alot of the fans. And he accomplished in making one of the greatest, if not the greatest expression of art ever created. And "Evangelion Rebuild" has the potential to surpass "Neon Genesis." He is not insulting the fans. He is giving so much more to us, and even more stories to the "Evangelion" franchise.

As for Anno he Directed Gunbuster which is great (better then Eva if you ask me.) He also directed Nadia which is great and Cutie Honey and Re:Cutie Honey which are also good. So there 4 things he's done besids Eva that is great.
I think it funny you guys are brining up fucking FLCL when the only hand Anno even has in FLCL is the voice of Noatas fucking cat Miyu Miyu.
