Yep Ive seen every one of your videos!! There great! I think Ill have to figure out a tecniqe to catch em without a fish finder! Ill be out there very soon.....Thanks
@brennanbanks4611 Brennan, of course you can. The entire series of crappie videos I made in Jan and Feb were full of tips and techniques for how to catch those darn things. I'd never fished down there in the winter before, either, so I was learning as I went. Check out any crappie video on my channel in Jan and early Feb; there's about 5 or six of them.
@fl4v0rfu11 Thanks. Yes, I have a few more crappie videos to post, then I'll probably chill out with them unless something really awesome goes down. This is the first year I've ever fished for them in Jan and Feb, so it has been a learning experience. The five or six vids I've posted in Jan were all about crappie fishing since they were biting like crazy.
@fracwilt Thanks, Craig. In this 'discovery' process I found four or five hot zones in that river bend where the rocks, brush, channel drop off and depth (7-10 ft) tend hold the crappie. It didn't seem to matter which direction I cast. I've learned to go over those spots and see if the fish are there (on the depth finder). Sometimes on more windy days they move more towards the shore or bluff end. I never figured out why I was bleeding; fingers take a beating landing lots of fish.
yeah thank's it was awesome! ironically(spelling??) I found a video link, from the one you sent me of "the moron brother's" doing it. I came across their "houseboat video' a while ago and, just thought it was funny how I found them again through that song(didn't think they did so much) check them out if you want, let me know if you recieved the vid. tried sending it to youtube.but it's hilarious! I liked your's but there video was coool too plus, they added a few thing's see ya- show me more ha
@zacharyheaton Not really. Jeff City isn't a stomping ground of mine. I'd say go to the MDC website and see where your local conservation area ponds and lakes are. I can tell you that you are pretty close to the Lake of the Ozarks which is a fisherman's paradise. Best wishes.
@Fishnwithjoe Hey, Joe, how are you? I bet that as a Scioto river crappie veteran you are smiling about my fumbling around with this whole crappie in a river thing. However, it has been fun to first find the fish and second to catch them. What I'm doing is working better than minnows (other minnow fisherman catching zip). Crazy fun to get into the 11-13 inchers, too. Rumors are that there's "tons" of 18 inch crappie.....well, I'll believe that when I see it! Don
@TCsportsReport1 Thanks, Tami, and it is always an honor to hear from you. Hope all's well and you have a great 2012 lined up. Glad you enjoyed the show; it is a challenge to make relatively dull crappie fishing even mildly interesting for the "fans". :) Don
@Winkiedoodles Yep been here three years. The old boys usually fish for small carp or ayu (kinda salmonid). there's also salmon, taimen dalloy varden and char. probably the most popular fish among under 60s is bass, mostly largemouth and smallies. Japanese domestic tackle rocks
Saltwater is really popular here too, seabass from the shore is probably the most common I go off shore a couple of times a year too for mahimahi, tuna or amberjack.
Hey how's it goin? another great show and I like that jig(fly) you had on there! yeah if my nose was runnin money I'd blow it all on fishin haha if my nose was runnin money.... BUT, IT'SSNOT!!
@gregoir Thanks, Greg. I tried all the Float N Fly jigs I had (all of them worked) so have started seeing what kind of other little crappie jigs and squirts will catch them this time of year. I'm still learning. I think you'll get a kick out of the original artist, Mike Snider, who wrote that song: I'll send you a message with the link.
Cool crappie! Nice to see you having a good time out there. I'm guessing you laughed when you said the nurse comment cause you knew how your wife was going to react to that comment. Lol.
@DJFishinman Thanks, Derrick. She knows I'm always thinking about my family, friends and her as my audience when I'm out there. Thus, from time to time there's little private jokes. So, if I ever say something that makes no sense, don't worry! All the best to you and Sonya! Don
@pelletgun12 It is very portable and has a 'universal' clamp-mount that works good. Google the Hummingbird Fishin' Buddy 120 and see it sells for $160. I had an older model of the Fishin Buddy so my wife bought me a newer one a couple of years ago. She's well trained..... :)
@pelletgun12 Sorry, I put in the wrong ID on the Fishin' Buddy. I have the 110 model (no "side-finder" like the 120 has) and it costs right at $120. I never use the side-finder anyway.
Love it! Great fishing action AND great entertainment! Although it must get really difficult dealing with all the paparazzi when you're tryin' to fish! The price you pay for stardom, eh? ;-)
@intenseangler John, thanks. It is bit of a challenge to make a fundamentally boring fishing video (crappie are basically undersized fish, don't jump or drag you around the lake) somewhat entertaining for family and friends. However, they sure are fun to catch and to 'outsmart'. Sure is different for me this year and I'm lovin' it. Don
@GodsGreatOutdoors Well, how about that. I bet not many folks know that Mike Snider (Snider is the correct last name) wrote that song. I "sang" a verse in a video about a month ago on Lake Taneycomo and nobody asked about the artist. Thanks for your nice comments and for enjoying the show.
@FrancisMandola Thanks, Francis! I need to transfer all my music files to my new PC (the one I'm using right now) and see if I can find that song. Was it on your first Fishtunesguys CD? Best wishes, Don
@FrancisMandola OK, mission accomplished...I have transferred the files and found 'Yours is Crappie!" Very cool song and I'll be sure to feature it in future productions. I have two vids "in the cue" with my own compositions (Sony Acid) but the crappie aren't going anywhere anytime soon so there will be ample opportunity! Love the Fish Tunes Guys!
@socalbassboy Thanks for watching, SoCal! I think southern California is better known for its big bass population rather than crappie, but I bet you've got them out there. If you caught little ones, the big ones are nearby!
@NWanglerz Adam, I managed to catch one undersized crappie on a trout worm.....I don't think they expect a worm this time of year? Tell you what, there's an unbelievable number of crappie in that section of the river. I'm just fishing a small percentage of fishable water. It sure is fun, though! All the best, Don
@fishingmaster13 Thanks, Eric. As you know, I found them the first week of Jan. This is the last vid from that week. After 2 weeks "vacation" I smacked them again. I'm trying different lures to see what gives; will show results after a while. Don
@fishingforfood1 Appreciate the nice comment, FFF. I'm weaning myself from the software I'm now using and will be exploring other cool editing programs in future videos. You'll be able to notice the difference, I'm sure.
@lee19702 Appreciate your asking. I don't to tackle reviews because I have too much tackle and prefer showing how a lure I'm using actually works rather than speculating about what it is supposed to do. If you are referring to the pontoon boat, there's already a video I made called River Guide "Bass Guide" Pontoon - How To from July of 2009 which does a pretty good job. Let me know if you have a specific question! Thanks.
hey Punk its bleeding like a "stuck" pig not "stuffed" pig but hey, no arguement with your results - great fishing Don! you crack me up you stuffed pig!
@bloodknot101 Ahhhhhh, so you noticed! Excellent. At that moment I was possessed by an alter-ego (some sort of Eurasian character) and he doesn't speek English none too good (the accent was bad, too). Stuffed PUNK!
@virginiabassin I don't have hair jigs but I've seen vids of folks catching winter bass on small hair jigs with a pork trailer. There's some nice bass in that area, too (had a big fish, probably a bass, get off) but right now I'm not throwing jigs into the rocks which might cause me to get hung up and thus disturb the school by trolling over to retrieve the lure.
@madfishinskillz Yes. I have a variety of tripods and usually use at least 2 cameras. And, yes, lucky for me there are tons of crappie in that section of the river. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Yep Ive seen every one of your videos!! There great! I think Ill have to figure out a tecniqe to catch em without a fish finder! Ill be out there very soon.....Thanks
