i.e. either you were Anglican or forbidden. I think that was JB's point.
I remember the first, say, ten times i watched this , how peculiar I thought his statement was, about the Dissenters being 'potentially dangerous revolutionary fanatics'.
Then I watched Starkey's UK Monarchy, and Schama's History of Britain. ( Numerous times )
I did my own research.
Conclusion:
The various Puritans were indeed, fanatics. You certainly could not let them join the army, or do all that other stuff. Now this part of the story seems quite sinister to me.

@lazyweb Sinister? Yes, but most of the rest (Methodists, Prsebys, Quakers and the lot) weren't.
