Is this the same model (but newer) that Dave Krusen borrowed when Pearl Jam recorded the "TEN" album?
I't is said that it was a Noble & Cooley 5x14 steambent snare. Don't know if it was maple though. The Ludwig kit he borrowed from the studio they were recording in was a maple kit so maybe they used this snare aswell ??? I'll leave the Q hanging for anyone to answer.

It just seems like there is something missing from the sound. I can't quite tell what it is. Beautiful nonetheless.

@Pandanobear Sounds to me as if there's too little overtones, and it sounds somewhat boxy. Still sounds good, though, as you said.
