i got a 1997 Mazda b3000 the speedometer doesn't work sometimes if i bang on the dash it works for a few seconds i took apart the speedometer and see if it was a loose connection put it all back together and still the same problem i have no idea what's wrong. And note the check engine light is on

@canobd2 i just bought 2003 saturn ion.the odemeter does not work.we have changed the whole of the odemeter and replaced it with a new one we bought form the junk yard.but stil the odometer does not move and it jumped from 64,00 to 200,00 mil.do u think it the sensor.i took it to autozone and it gave a code and when they checked the code.it says ecm.i dont know what that.and the guy could not tell me anything.please help.thanks
With that code it looks like you may have a bad instrument panel cluster, faulty wiring, and or a bad engine control module. If you do not have a manual for your vehicle you might want to get one so that you can follow the trouble tree. Good Luck!
Can anyone tell me where the input & output sensors are for a 2000 Dodge Stratus? It's got the 2.4 4 cylinder. Shop wants $150 to do them, thought I could do it myself.
The input speed sensor is located right above the transmission solenoid pack and the output speed sensor is located to the right of the input speed sensor.
I have a 2000 corolla ce automatic, my car shifts hard when going from park to drive to reverse. It also shifts hard between gears, there is no check engine light on and my speedo seems to be working fine, I was told it could be my speed sensor? I was also told it could be a motor mount?? If it is the speed sensor where would it be located?
The VSS (Ford calls it output shaft speed sensor) for your F150 is located on the left side of the transmission about 1/2 way down or 3/4 of the way down near the top of the transmission (it depends on what transmission you have).
@canobd2 F150 for 2001 had both VSS and OSS sensors. VSS on the bell housing and OSS at the transmission extension on drivers side near the top. If VSS is shot, you usually have no tach (or incorrect readings at tach) OSS will set transmission into LHM (limp home mode, with a flashing O/D light) and screw up throttle actuator control system, causing it to stumble and run rough.
If your Accord is a 4 cylinder than the speed sensor is located on the back side (near the fire wall) of the transmission right above the left axel shaft.
I have a 95 Mazda MX-6 which has a soft code 452 - VSS signal fault. There is no hard code and the only symptom is rough idling at a stop sign/light and occasionally the RPM will go high momentarily for no apparent reason. Any advise on the problem, location of the VSS on my vehicle, etc.
The code 452 is indicating something wrong with VSS and or wiring; the VSS is located on the back side (fire wall side) of the transmission. I do not think your rough idle problem is related to your VSS problem.

For your 2002 Neon I would start checking the conector and wiring at the sensor to make sure you have a good contact. If that is good test the VSS and replace if needed. Good Luck!
My speedo is working but the check engine light with error code indicating VSS came up when im driving around 80kmh or so. Speedo still working at that point and engine feels normal.
The light may have come on due to an intermittent error. Your vss could be on its way out, and or you can clear it and it may not come back on. Good Luck!
The vss on your van is called an output shaft speed sensor. Raise the van, remove the Y pipe and heat shield, disconnect OSS sensor (VSS), remove OSS sensor cover, remove bolt, and sensor. Good Luck!

The vss for your 99 F250 is located on the left rear side middle area of the transmission (4R70W), or on the tail shaft housing of the transfer case (4R100 transmission).
My 96 Nissan Altima has had a problem with speedometer since I had it sometimes it worked sometimes it did not. All of a sudden it has been idling very rough and now it will not recover from rough idle in drive and I can not move it. The vss for your 1996 Altima is located on the back side of your transmission next to the fire wall. The vss may fix your speedometer problem, but I do not think it will fix your idle issue. Good Luck!

It depends on the vehicle as far as the parts and labor cost. It could be a bad fuse causing your problem; your alternator has nothing to do with it.

This code P0725 you have is usually associated with a bad crankshaft position sensor. It's located on cylinder head (drives side). Good Luck!

The vss for your 99 F250 is located on the left rear side middle area of the transmission (4R70W), or on the tail shaft housing of the transfer case (4R100 transmission).

My 96 Nissan Altima has had a problem with speedometer since I had it sometimes it worked sometimes it did not. All of a sudden it has been idling very rough and now it will not recover from rough idle in drive and I can not move it. I replaced camshaft sensor and problem still exist do you think it is the speed sensor? I was under the impression I had to get under car to replace it. Do you know where it is located. Thanks

The vss for your 1996 Altima is located on the back side of your transmission next to the fire wall. The vss may fix your speedometer problem, but I do not think it will fix your idle issue. Good Luck!

Hi Guys , could you please help me ! I have 2001 Oldsmobile Aurora which wont go more then 70mph an hour. Or if i press on accelerator pedal all the way at the take off it is very slow to pick up speed yet if i press it gently it would drive as normal untill it reaches 70mph then wont go faster !!! Any help appreciated !!!

It sounds like you may have a fuel issue (fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, etc.). Good Luck!

The vss for your 2005 Silverado should be on the right side of your transmission near the rear (by the tail housing).

Your F150 uses the output shaft speed sensor as the vss. It is located on the left rear side of the transmission (2wd).

the speedometer suddenly stopped working, was intermittent for a few days and has once again ceased working at all (2 weeks). does this sound like a vss or a wiring issue?

It sounds like you may have a wiring problem (bad connection) some were. It could be a bad vss, but I would check wiring first. Good Luck!

I have a problem with the cruise control on my 1997 F150 4.2 2WD. Could this be my problem? My brake lights work when i press them so I do not think this is a fuse issue.

I don't think that the vehicle speed sensor is your problem. You could have one of many problems I would recommend you get a good service manual and go through the trouble shooting tree. Good Luck!

No, the speed sensor is located under the rear head and behind the exhaust manifold on top of the transmission.
