    It's not "courage" to attempt 90 lbs more than your 5RM, it's just retardation. This guy clearly deserved to have his leg broken, if you squat properly you should never have an injury.

  • @xPonked If no one attempted 90lbs more than your 5RM, no one would have a world record. And this is a freak accident. It take 600lbs plus to break a limb, and unfortunately his leg buckled with 800. I bet you this guy could of done 800 (probably can't squat anymore because of the leg.)

    No. When someone breaks a world record, they've at least attempted that weight before AND partially completed a rep (ie: couldn't get past the sticking point). When you can barely lift your feet to get away from the rack, you have at least 90 lbs more than what you should be using. Powerlifters may push their personal limits, but (with the exception of the person in this video) they're not retarded.

  • @xPonked The thing is that's just it. If he had a monolift he could of got this weight. His leg just got into a bad position and unfortunately when your leg gets in a bad position with 800lbs on your back, it breaks.

    He had too much weight on the bar and as a result, his knees caved in rather than pushing out. As soon as he tried to squat, his knees instantly collapsed inward, snapping the main bone in his leg.

    The main thing when doing squats is to use common sense, have a spotter that will actually watch out for you (unlike the guys in these videos), and keep your knees pointed out.

  • Spotters are to keep you from getting stuck in the hole or to knock the weight off your back when you start to fall. There is NOTHING they could have done with this lift, other than what they did. A rack would have been a much smarter decision.

And unhocking the the bar from the catch requires you to move a couple steps back to clear the weight from the rest point causing gripping with the floor.

  • Work boots are actually a great choice of foot-ware for the squat. They offer excellent ankle and arch support, and they don't compress as much as cross trainers ( compression can cause you to have uneven footing).
