Not worried about it.

I subscribe to the KISS principle, Keep It Simple,,,,,.

The point being is that this can be done with far fewer parts and at far less expense.

Lets say we use a DPDT switch and a SPDT switch like in the classic design.

Now add a pair of diodes, a resistor and an LED.

That takes care of the light, including the delay.

Add another diode and resistor as well as 2 capacitors and we have the delay circuit (RC) for the motor.

Perhaps $2 in parts added over the original design.

A microcontroller is way overkill.

In the original it is simply a DPDT switch set as a reverser switch and a limit switch.

To add lighting one need only add a lamp to the limit switch circuit.

To add a 2 stage function simply use a solenoid as the last part of the travel and trip on extend.

There is nothing but another switch that trips to do this.

The advantage of doing this totally with switches is that not only is it very simple, and thus reliable, but it teaches KISS.
