Musettaprof, thank you for posting this clip, and the lyrics. I have seen a couple of Faust clips, in which, gliding among the frivolous taverners, there are also corpses reanimated by Mephistopheles! Is this part of the story, reprised in the scene just before Faust rushes to rescue Margurite? or is it 'director's license'?
@VolkgartenBySquirrel No LOL! We looked like corpses because stage director wanted us to be maked up that way, with white faces. Although his real intention was giving us the appearance of "black and white" cinema actors. LOL! LOL!
I love especially when Mephisto says just before the chorus: "ici même en cet instant joyeux ta belle et chaste enfant va paraître a vous yeux!" just where this recording begins. Just before Mephhisto has been singing"pour vous laisser douter un instant de mon zèle. Attendons! and then the music changes abrupty to waltz Delicious!

I wish I could understand French. But the waltz conveys lovely music, which fills my heart with great joy.
Charles Gounod was a real genius.

the text is about:"as the breeze lift up the dust in whirls, so let's the waltz do with us, and let's your songs resound through the plain"

Better: "..lift up the dust in whirls from armchairs..."

I'm really impressed by the "intimacy" of this recording and the razor-sharp diction of the choir. Bravo!

What is the name of the gorgoeus 'waltz-y' part of the music with the chorus singing? Whats the song/piece called? Thanks!
