I think a little piece of everyone dies if/when they truly realize and appreciate what Snape's character embodied and the depth and beauty that his character reflects back on each of our lives.
By dying I don't mean total loss though. I mean we also gain something from the realization. Not to be corny and make more H.P. allusions, but kind of like a phoenix. Through that poignant realization we are also reborn, reborn with a greater appreciation of what it TRULY means to love someone...
