He was an extra boss added to the special edition which let you play as virgil and has a new very hard difficulty and turbo mode.So you must have played the original.

@KBhunter2003 Yeah, easy. All you have to do is shoot at him till he stops to take a break so you can slash at him and avoid the balls. Most bosses won't let you get that close to them for so long.
