  • It takes my 2.0 ghz Intel Core 2 Duo laptop 43:00 minutes to export a 1080p 3 minute long movie! But my desktop it takes 30 seconds to export the same movie.

  • Does the Pro have Lion?

  • You have the same Wallpaper on your Pro as I do on one of my walls!

  • can i make a full feature on a macbook air

  • @beepsbobby1 By "full feature" do you mean a 2 hour HD movie? I wouldn't recommend using the Air for something like that. The RAM and SSD storage limitations would really hurt you. It probably could be done, but it would be a frustrating editing process.

  • @beepsbobby1 Matt is correct... There is more data in raw files than the final version... All digital movies have raw files in the 10 to 20GB per second. Compared to fraps average of 4GB per minute. And we are not talking 4k either.

  • Can you do a video about your desk setup. Kinda like what's on it.

  • its faster then my powermac g5 :(

stuff like that takes me 2 hours

  • How much was your Mac Pro?

  • Would you rather edit a movie on a widescreen or a standerd sized monitor.

  • Would you want to edit a movie on a widescreen or standard monitor?

  • @mattsmacintosh That is a beautiful set up my friend. I'm currently trying to flush out all of the ugly Windows based machines out of my life.

  • takes me like 15 in on a macbook pro 2009

  • beauty vs beast......

but i like the beauty better=]

  • To everyone wondering. The most recent music video on my youtube was created solely using the macbook air. Not just the normal cutting and placing. But everything from organizing to coloring.

This machine is incredibly strong and surpasses what a lot of people are thinking that it can do.

  • @squidink17 Completely agree- and great video.

  • What lens did you use in this video?

  • Where do i find a stand like you have to hold my macbook?

  • @drtnation Its called the Mstand from Rain Design

  • OMG 16 GB RAM WOW

  • did you make your mac pro desktop pic in cinema 4d

  • my mac book pro(newer) on imovie takes like 2 hours to export a 1min 30 sec video!

  • which generation mac pro is it? the 2010 one?

  • Matt u r awesome and what u do is awesome

well we wanna do something awesome for you

    I MADE A " THE BEST OF MATT'SMACCINTOSH " VID FOR YOU, BUT REALLY U R A GREAT GUY

THUMBS UP SO MATT CAN SEE IT

  • why does your monitor look like that on the desktop computer? its sweet!

  • My PC takes over 2 hours to export a 720p 3 minute file. Feel grateful, everyone, feel grateful.

  • still it's good for being a laptop there's alot slower laptops out there

  • Can you put the link of your wallpaper(the one in cinema display)?

  • So which did u use to upload this video?? Lol

  • how come it takes my FCP X an hour to export a 1080p 2 minute video?? It's soo annoying!

  • @TDTGwallets i frgt to say that i have a macbook pro

  • @TDTGwallets what year macbook pro?

  • I know a lot of people would love if you do this: take a 1 minutes 1080p clip export it with the air, and have a download link in the description so we can test it on final cut on our computers to know if it's worth picking up. Please please do that! They didn't have an i7 at my apple store so I couldnt test . Please!

  • @TheAppleReviewGuy Hmmm... not a bad idea.

  • Well i have a 15" pro and it is soooo heavy. Thinking about a i7 13" air as my main computer. I also have a 27" display for it.

  • my laptop takes 8 hours for a 480p video =(

  • "a workable timeframe.." Jeez I´d be buyin Macs in no time if they werent so damn expensive :(

  • @MattsMacintosh Hey Matt, I've got to ask are you using a special lens or something different? Because everything just looks 'different' when you are panning ... almost seems like you're using something like a fisheye lens .. or maybe it's just the angle you are shooting at ... or I'm mental lol

  • @AppChat Well, you are mental, but you're right, this was not the normal lens I shoot with. It was my 10-20mm Sigma

  • @MattsMacintosh HA! You're HILARIOUS MATT :P ..... THANK GOODNESS it was a different lens hahaha

  • @MattsMacintosh I think the new MB Air was fast due to the HD3000. Obviously the HD3000 doesn't have enough horse power to play latest games, but for encoding/decoding video it performs relatively better, even when compared to $500.00 cards.

  • Great visdeo, thank you for making it :)

  • do a tutorial .. how to add a F*** stopwatch like you made for this video because i had lot of problems doing it in FCP

    thx

  • @akagodofheaven Its the Timecode generator.

  • good done, mate!

  • How do you generate that timecode at the bottom? Are you using the Motion generator?

  • How well does after effects perform on Lion?

  • @rsmoz I personally haven't had any problems.

  • am i the only one that wonders what desk he is using that can hold all that weight.

  • Not too bad for a dual core i7.

  • FCPX rules!

  • dude. haha my 2010 MBP 8gb Ram is slower. and every time i try to export / upload Quicktime H.264 to youtube from fcpx. it has crappy audio. please help?

  • @whynotanything Are you trying to upload in surround sound? Use stereo for YouTube.

  • @MattsMacintosh dude! thank you SO much. haha i had to do it a different way for like 3 of my videos and it took HOURS!!!!!!!!!!

  • compared to sony vegas pro 10 this is insanely fast!

  • that seems so slow.

  • @enzyme20056 Seriously? I thought it was pretty fast for a portable.

  • @MattsMacintosh i watched the video, it was so short, why does it take so long how big was this file.

  • @enzyme20056 Its 1080p ProRes video being converted to H.264. The project file was 3GB and the final was 150MB. Trust me, these times are really fast. I remember a similar export/render taking 20 minutes on a Core Duo machine.

  • @MattsMacintosh I think the new gen macbook air have finally arrived, do you have the old mb air to compare , people have been saying they are slow and the hard drives are hopeless.

  • @MattsMacintosh Damn straight it was good!! I'll be relying on the Macbook Air at CES next year..

  • i def need to upgrade lol. my vids be taking like an hour for a 3 minute video. i got that 2010 macbook pro 13 4GB ram 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo

  • @Eightpspi same here i just got mine for christmas!

  • @AFIGHTCHANNEL cool cool... i want a imac, ill wait until the 2012 imacs come out

  • Could you do a Beginners iMovie playlist. like from basic to heavy editing. thanks!

  • You should propose to her already! (:

  • 304

  • @MegaPranxter 445

  • @MattsMacintosh oh right, but you moved your computer and everything, please feel free to check out my channel, i see you as a videographer to aspire to! Maybe another setup video?

    All The Best

    Will

  • i take it that you moved in with your girlfriend??

  • @WillsTechShow About three years ago I did. I'm just in a different office because my old one is being packed up.

  • @MattsMacintosh ok right, ok well hope you check out the channel mate, your videos are great. i have followed you since the beggining haha

    will

  • @MattsMacintosh why are you packing it up? btw, im a big fan of your videos, man, you got talent... incredible sense for the camera... keep up the awesome work! : ))

  • @MattsMacintosh packed up with what?

  • Apple doesn't offer a "true" desktop computer. The imac and mac mini use many laptop parts and from what I've heard the Mac Pro uses server parts.

  • @bobslim it is true that the imac uses the i3 i5 and i7 processors in their desktops but this doesnt really matter due to the fact that these processors are powerful enough for the average user and the user who does things like photoshop final cut and other processor munching tasks. What would be nice would be if apple made a mini mac pro, but this is just me dreaming!

  • @bobslim dude the processors are some of the best out currently. Graphics are good enough. but there's nothing else anyway?

  • thanks matt

  • I really want to get a mac but don't have tons of money my main use would be video editing should I go with the baseline MBP or MBA?

  • Export something from after effects!!

  • Did anyone else drool after seeing the Apple display? If only they weren't $999... Nice video!

  • What shutter speed where you using?

  • @D3K1N9 1/50

  • @MattsMacintosh with the 60D what ISO would you recommend for low light?

  • @D3K1N9 I never go above 800. The noise level just starts to get unacceptable above that.

  • I want a Mac Pro sooo bad. My iMac C2D still runs FCPX though.

  • Nice vid man

  • How did u get rid of the dock, even though it was on the bottom

  • @BUSTVEL An app called Mirage Dock

  • Not sure how u have dislikes on this video, but ok. Great job Matt!

  • What's the difference between the Mac pro(the kind was in the video) and the iMac?

  • @imbored200 The iMac is an all-in-one computer (meaning the monitor is built into the computer itself) and is meant for general home use like surfing the web, playing music/videos and viewing photos.

The Mac Pro on the other hand, is a full desktop where the computer is separate from the monitor. The Mac Pro is not for every day home use but is meant for people who need a lot more power for things like video editing, high graphic gaming, etc.

The iMac is sold for $999 and the Mac Pro for $2200+

  • @imbored200 4, 8, 12 Cores, 4 HDD slots, awesome GPU (you can change it), no display (obviously).

Its a computer for the professional market (Pro) its much expensive then the iMac but it runs super fast.

But the mac pros are getting older, apple is suposed to update them in a VERY near future (once imacs and macbook pros already have quadcores), they are WAY too expensive for what they offer, for nowadays standards.

  • @jm1jonas ok thanx :)

  • Hey, what stand are you using to hold your macbook air up?

  • @km77nut MStand from Rain Design.

  • @MattsMacintosh That's a great stand!

  • @MattsMacintosh Thanks for the rapid reply :)

  • @MattsMacintosh That stand is awesome. If it weren't for that stand, my late 2008 macbook pro (yeah, it's old) would be giving my desk burn marks...

  • @km77nut If your looking for a stand, the mStand is great.

  • Lol, the winner was actually quite obvious from the begging

  • Nice video

  • Really cool video Matt! The fact that Apple packed so much power into such a portable device. The export time wasn't comparable to the Mac Pro, but it's much better than what I experience on my Dad's iMac! Also, what lens did you use for this video? Was it a wide-angle lens?

  • @logicallytechnology Imagine how much faster the next line of Mac Pro's will be? Ivy Bridge is going to kick major ass.

  • the i7 990x will smoke that mac pro in exporting time when its overclocked to 4.5Ghz

  • @rubix63 Congratulations, you just compared a new $1000 processor to a workstation that was last updated in Q1 of last year.

  • @sc0pl355 still, an i7 2600k overclocked to 4.5ghz will also reach the same speed of that mac pro, build a pc with similar spes or higher and it will only be 1500$ instead of 3000$+

  • @rubix63 Once again, you're comparing a new processor to a workstation that was last updated a year ago. Also, Xeons (!) aren't necessarily supposed to be the fastest processors in the world. They are supposed to run at capacity over long periods of time. If you built a computer with a i7 2600 or i7 990x rig and ran it at max load for 6-12 months non-stop, WITHOUT overclocking them, your rig would go tits up while the Mac Pro can go up to three years under that same stress.

  • @sc0pl355 actually no, use water cooling to cool down the system

  • @rubix63 You can water cool a Mac Pro too

    watch?v=DMfV-VUa6y8

Also whether you use water cooling or not, your computer will not be able to handle being at full load 24/7 for a year. Your parts are not built for that. That's why Xeons typically cost more than consumer processors. the same for server-grade hard drives that cost twice as much as consumer-lever hard drives.

  • "build a pc with similar spes or higher and it will only be 1500$ instead of 3000$+"

The Mac Pro is an OEM workstation. The price it has is quite common for machines of that type.

    HP Z600:

    2X Xeon X5650, firepro 2270 512mb, 6 gigs of 1333 ram, 1 tb hard drive, Linux

    $5,312

    Mac Pro:

Same processors, Radeon HD 5770 1GB, same amount and speed of ram, same size and speed of hard drive, OSX

    $4,999

  • @sc0pl355 OS X makes it more valuable to me.

  • @jaggedspikerespawn It does to me too. My point is that the Mac Pro price isn't as irregular as some people seem to think and workstations are not the same as consumer computers.

  • @sc0pl355 Yep, it's a workstation. And all of them cost significantly more for various reasons. I only blame them for the lack of knowledge.

  • @jaggedspikerespawn Too true. The sad part is that they think they know something about computers.

  • Hey Matt,

if i put the same amount of ram say 8gb on an imac and mac pro will it take the same amout of time to export in final cut?

  • @Drummerstefen Actually it depends more on the CPU and number of cores than RAM.

  • 184

  • Is that a new office?

  • WOOOHHOOO Scientific Test!!!

Oh wait it's not, oh no's!!!

    Great video though :D

  • your mac pro is beast!! My MBP is kind of the same as your macbook Air but takes a little longer as mine is from late 09 but has a lot of upgrades!

  • Hey Matt, what desk is that? Where can I buy it? Thanks!

  • 94th viewer

  • Great Video as usual.

  • yeah buddy! first!

  • @rskid23 LOL, you're not even second.

  • One Dislike???

    WTF???

    People Are Crazy !!!!!

  • @iLoveeApple Yeah. Jesus Christ... -.-

  • Damn! <_<

  • That was actually pretty impressive! Also love the wide-angle lens shots. Great video!

  • FUCK YOU MATT ILL RAPE YOUUUUUUUUUU

  • @Quinnstaz TROLOLOLOLOLO! #facepalm
