Having fought many tanks both in my own, and on foot, I'd say that tanks are some of the most regulated weapons in the SLMC, there are usually only slight differences in firepower, mobility, and speed, and some tanks have poorly scripted armor systems that actually make them more survivable, but in the end it comes down to the operator's skill. My ASI VM2 nicknamed "Sheila" usually comes out on top though :P
I'm surprised no one said anything about the use of all those advanced menu options. Back when it was the only commercially available tank, the ISA was pretty good. However, nowadays there are freebie tanks that outclass it.
As it's been said many times before, advanced menus accomplish what alt camming can do... just quicker. If you notice, I don't fire a single shot with anything disabled. It was a necessity at times with my awful computer to disable things as alt camming was laggy (also wireframe, which I don't really use).
..As for the tank.. yeah the ASIMK2 is better and more versatile... but there are even better... I piloted them back in the Alliance Navy. ..omg..
I am truely suprised....the ISA tank is probably one of the easiest tanks on the grid to kill, mostly because it doesn't pull a legion and spray fill the entire sim with bullets.
Yeah, it dies very quickly. The only thing it's good for is narrow area control and movement denial/deterrent. I only lasted as long as I did in this video (...5 minutes) because of the low number of defenders.
The reason the Legion bullets bounce like hell is because the Mercz recycled the old Uriel / Jeremy Duport ISW Bullets (the distinct "pew" impact sound they make) Unless they changed something, those bullets still use impulse to increase their velocity...
I remember some of the first "Armor training" we had for Assault class.
The attackers using armor in the void sim "Rostok" simply had to have their tank spray our base and everyone would get spawn killed for about 30 seconds. I remember those (at least) 5m long bullets coming through the walls.
Mercz philosophy dictates "it's not the equipment but how you use it that makes it fair" since they don't have strict guidelines for equipment. That idealism isn't working too well...
Not really...the only way I've countered the legion...because it's now impossible to do so with bullets, is every medium sized tank I make, is equiped with armor depleting volley rockets, firing about 4 at a time, promising the Legion you fired it at, "will" be dead in about 8 seconds.
It's a shame that there's no universal constraints on weaponry. We're pretty much forced to use overpowered, and possibly laggier munitions counter these what-would-be decent war machines that really are a step forward in SL combat.
Conversely though, we must consider: It is very killable, almost as easy as the ISA MBT... Not nearly as bad as 2142's tank in many ways though, and even I think our AN tank is a bit overpowered in some areas..
I personaly think the AN tank is too easy to kill aswell, not because of it's systems, but because the drivers just stand still, allowing me to fire as many Sabot rounds as I want with 100% accuracy, rendering the AN tank useless, if they would move, then it would be more effective :P
Well that could be argued, yet again I've never piloted one so I can't say, it's a true fact no piece of equipment can be respected until used for one's self, I'm sure it's an amazing piece of machinery though.

@Karenronwood
if you want the best tanks in SL, join AN...
This video is nearly a year and a half old. I got the tank for free.
One of the best AVAILABLE tanks for any realistic price. ... pretty effing low lag too.

Ya they changed them....but only to be 5x larger and even more spammy, the tank rounds are now the size of the Uriel Interceptor rounds.

Our tanks are the most maneuverable on the grid.
The pilot was must have been some new cavalry guy.
