Joey Bishop was very annoying here- I don't like when guest panelists yammer on and on, trying to be funny. Just play the damn game- and for heaven's sake, stop repeating what has already been established. I hate that!
Helen Gurley Brown- nice to see a guest panelist who could really play the game and not just fumble around like so many of them did. What an intelligent woman- I think she would have figured it out eventually. Too bad she didn't guest more often, I enjoyed her.
Freeze at 2:17 -- after Dorothy Kilgallen's death, the producers toyed with the idea of replacing her with Phyllis Newman and they also toyed with the idea of replacing Dorothy with some other bright professional female writer type. Among those types who appeared a number of times on WML-- Ms. Gurley Brown in her early modern period. The title on the screen suggests this was Ms. Brown's first appearance on WML.
Watching the guest shake hands with the panel, I had an afterthought. And it is one that I offer with some trepidation as I know our dear roots66 -- a beloved Prime Mover in these matters -- enjoys Hal Block. But after seeing him all these many times, it occurs to me that only he could make Joey Bishop seem like Abraham Lincoln, or at least Averill Harriman.
@roots66 Yes, well, it took me a few tries to find it, not too many, but I was thinking of your remarks vis-a-vis the entertaining Face Lifter episode you provided.

"John loves it when we're stupid." (3:50) Joey may be onto something there.

She must have been a Shea Stadium usher in some parallel universe.
Thanks very much.
