I love both the Ventures and Rich so this is a real treat! I saw Rick in 1980/81 at the Agora Ballroom in Atl. Ga. It was his Derringer tour. He was great!
Rick Derringer also played lead guitar on Michael Jackson song "Beat It". He also toured with Johnny Winters in the mid 70's. Fantastic guitar player.
@Bruce15485 I thought it was Eddie Van Halen on Beat It...but you're absolutely right about Rick being a fantastic guitar player! Started with The McCoys (Hang On Sloopy) then spent a lot of time with Johnny and then Edgar Winter before putting out solo stuff. If you get a chance, check out his wizardry on "Back In The U.S.A." from Edgar Winter's 'Roadwork' album.
Ha! Rick is my cousin. Didn't recognize him here. Wait til I tell his sister on FB! I doubt she's or my moms seen this. Thanks for posting it. I haven't seen him in years. His brother recently passed, so maybe this'll lighten things up for his sister. Later...
Who (50 or so years old) did not learn to play guitar from "Learn to Play Guitar with The Ventures" record and book. Memphis was the big tune to learn. Great stuff - Thanks for posting!
I didnt lear from the "learn To Play Guitar with The Ventures", but sure did learn from copying their singles, listening over and over and matching the notes by ear.
