Wouldn't it be nice if Simon Cowell would invite the actual songwriter, who's lived in obscurity, to play his very own song? The songwriter is Lance "Sandy" Sandberg, PhD, who wrote this song for the lead singer in his band---she would fall for another. MCA bought his song, along with songwriter credits and all royalties from him for $25. Dr. Lance "Sandy" Sandberg, PhD, teaches at St. Phillips College in San Antonio, Texas. Please help the song's writer perform it on TV, before he dies.

Kind of weird hearing a GUY sing this song, but he did great. I actually think Simon just picked this song for Paula, because it is one of her favorite songs. When David gets to the "MY LOVE" part Simon starts applauding and stares at Paula but she won't look at him.

Regardless, I thought it was a rockin performance certainly above "this stunk," but I do understand your point that it did not display the tenderness that the original song had. Since it was Simon's "worthy" selection, however, I felt he did what he could with it.

the final note is actually the only part I really loved about the performance. Simon gave him this song so he could modify it and give it an edgy dark sound... but he just sang it normal.

Awesome song that is difficult to sing. Cook brought his own version and sang the hell of the 1:34 he was given, using it to show his increditble range and vocal command. The man can sing!

A truly beautiful song performed with all the finesse of a foghorn. Check out Leona's live version, Celine Dion's or the original Roberta Flack release. All three are far superior to this. Just sayin'...
