@Chrisgodoflard Live was not a religious band. They were philosophical. He might be a Christian man now, but when this song was written and performed, there was nothing religious about him or the rest of the band.
I am so sick of looking up Unplugged music like this and not being able to find it on iTunes or a CD! It pisses me off because it's like, 'Why make such beautiful acoustic music for television, but not an album for your fans to enjoy?" As much as I love Layne and Kurt, do I really have to be stuck with just Alice in Chains and Nirvana Unplugged when someone out there in MTV can easily turn all of this brilliant acoustic music into an album for everyone to hear? It's so stupid.
5 dudes who hate this. Cody Simpson, Greyson Chance, Rebecca Black, Lady Gaga, and...um Devin Fox. Well, not Justin Bieber or Katy Perry, because this band is sort of Christian.
The best thing on this video besides the singer is the drummer...OMG he is so sexy!!!! There is nothing more sexy than this guy playing the drums. I always watch the video for him and because of the song itself....They r awesome..
The whole Unplugged series was great. I remember this the first time around, and Hole's cover of 'Hungry like the Wolf' during their unplugged session...all good times.
I miss 120 Minutes most from MTV, every know and they do something good I'm kinda enjoying Death Valley and Top Buzzer was fantastic but on the whole the chan isn't worth a shit these days. P.S. forgot how much I liked Live until recently when REM split.
To play this song correctly on guitar tune the guitar down one half step. Some hard rock songs have the guitar tuned down half a step because it has a deeper thicker richer tone.
shows like MTV unplugged made MTV worthwhile back then... now you have shows like Jersey Shore and Teen mom... MTV... how could you have fallen so far down?
I'm past 60. My 35 year old son loves the 60's music I listened to back in those twisted days--on vinyl by the way AND I still own a working German made turntable! (what a demented bunch we were--if you have parents from the 60's--70's, ask them! LOL) BUT the 90's rocked too--and these guys are over the top!!!! DVDs don't cut it and digital music is just fuc*ing wrong. If I'm listening to tunes, something better be turning!! I know, you youngsters don't get it!! LOL (:>)
@oldmick581 I can't agree with you any more. I'm 30, lived the whole 90's and learned how to play guitar from all those songs. Still I have a huge love for the 60's and 70's. Wish I would have lived them too. As for the turn table...You can't beat the sound. Keep it all analog. Why take a sound (that is analog to begin with) change it to a digital format, just to change it back to analog through the speakers. It makes no sence, other than digitally, the song keeps longer.
I'm about to see Ed this coming Sunday at a local festival. I'm so exited! I've been a loyal fan of Live since '97!! I've always dreamed of seeing them in person. I know this time it wont be Live officially. The two Chads and Pat will be missing, but at least the heat of Live will be there and he'll be playing all the badass songs I grew up with... Like this one right here! I <3 Live forever!
@iamzero79 same here man. And back then MTV and VH1 were actually music channels instead of reality TV and teen mom garbage. Who knows though, maybe one day music like this will come back and the autotune will lose its value. Lets hope..
Yeh but Live werent ever very big although they were far better than some.
Longpigs, an english group around the same time, had a fantastic album with 'the sun is often out' you should check out 'Lost Myself' from the Longpigs. England's most underrated band of the 90's.
I can't believe MTV prefers to show and produce reality shows that won't help to make you feel better, instead of making more projects like MTV unplugged. This song just makes me feel things that I can't explain!!
this band has really beautiful stuff and I never noticed. look a little past the teenyboppers for the beautiful music of this generation.. trust me its there.. - then maybe you'll take the "garbage" less personally and see that it fits its niche too..

This was, and continues to be one of my very favorite bands ever! I think they were so underrated in their peak. They deserved waaay more recognition than they had. This band touches my soul in so many ways! Ed Kowalczyk is one of, if not the best song writer in the world! His lyrics are like fine poetry. Please listen... Chad Gracy in one of the best drummers in the business, I swear!!! I love you Ed and Chad G!!!
Where can I get this whole concert? I know it exists because I used to own it on VHS. It was not a bootleg. It was 100% the real deal whole concert.. HELP ME, SOMEONE........
Aww. I miss the 90's so much! That was definately the best decade for music! All the best rock band were out and at their highest peak. This band in particular was one of the best! Thank you for posting such a beautiful memory... The 90's are surely missed!
wow remembering when im in high school.. thats was 12 years ago hahaha.. i miss my friends and my band member when i had gig with them we palyed this song..
LIVE DID UNPLUGGED TOO!!? NO WAY THAT'S AWESOME!! I knew Alice in Chains did it. I knew Pearl Jam did it. I knew Stone Temple Pilots did it. Obviously Nirvana did too. But I had no idea live had one as well! Now I'm gonna stay up all night watching this.
Yeah, the Grunge (sorry...), whatever, I love Live's music, and I'm gonna mis it because they have a break right now for at least two fucking years, but fine, we'll see.
Well maybe that's good? They haven't come out with a decent album since Distance to Here anyway. Best to quit before they loose all integrity. They used to be one of the best bands in the world. Now they're just a group of self pretencious, pseudo intellectual has-beens, trying to preach free love. They NEED a break. Ed needs to come back down to earth, cause he's way to jaded for his own good. This unplugged session is one of the best concerts ever by any band. They used to be amazing!
and to love: a god and to fear: a flame and to burn a crowd that has a name and to right or wrong and to meek or strong it is known, just scream it from the wall I've willed, I've walked, I've read I've talked, I know, I know, I've been here before hey, now we won't be raped hey, now we won't be scarred like that it's the sun that burns it's the wheel that turns it's the way we sing that makes 'em dream
Throwing Copper launched their career with great tunes that I'll never get tired of listening to. Starland Ballroom 3/26/09.sayreville,nj excellant video......!
Ed was really cute back in the early nineties... What happened to Live? Do they still exist? Do they still make music?
No they're not a christian band, but at one point I just got a little fed up with the whole spiritual "love will conquer all" message that they had in all of their songs. Mental Jewlery, Secret Samadhi and Throwing Copper were good albums though. After Distance to here I just lost interest
and, you are whom to pass that judgment? Shouldn't people be allowed a positive feeling in ANYTHING they can get it from, in today's day and age? who do you think YOU are? The end all, the see all, the know all of all things Christian? I'm Christian and would NEVER try to tell someone they are NOT. "LIVE" has a deeply emotional impact in their lyrical quality, and if it's a positive thing, how dare you judge that!
I have listened to lots of songs by this group and I would have to say Kowalczyk has been searching spirituality in many areas for a long time. This was a great clip, great band, too. thanks for posting it!
This is still, by far, the best version of Selling the Drama. Even after all of these years, I can still listen to this version over and over and never get sick of it.
Before there was Creed, or even Collective Soul, there was Live.

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
Have u lied? Have u stolen? Jesus said if you look at a woman with lust you have committed adultery with here in your heart. have u done that?
If God judge’s u by the Ten Commandments will u be innocent or guilty? Heaven or Hell? Does this concern you?
Do u need a Savior from your sins?
Jesus (The Son of God)came, lived a sinless life, died on the cross (for our sins) and rose again on the third day.needgod.com

it could easily be about allah or Vishnu . followers of any faith are inspired and " impacted emotionally."
but why would you need ancient texts to behave morally or with compassion ?

and, you are whom to pass that judgment?
