For those of you who want to travel to Los Angeles, the LA Opera is performing this opera in concert version in the spring of 2010. It was originally to be staged, but the company is short on money.
UncleNathan called L.A. Opera and reports "The Stigmatized" will be "a fully staged production, not concert. The rumor got started because they are using sets from Die Götterdämmerung for part of the production and will not have all new sets for everything."
Schwanewilms is the best you can get for a ticket today... Simply great... the nicest voice ive heard in years.... Light... as the best romantic tradition... dramatic and a very good actress... what else? Thanks for posting a clip from a singer, that has to be listened to...
Unfortunately Mina this music was buried by the Nazi's in WWII as "degenerate art" and it just only resurfaced about 30 years ago in the late 70's The whole story is racy by today's standards and so when it was written in 1918 it was really racy and though popular may not have seen much performance until now anyway.
@minacciosa I saw the recent L.A.Opera production and agree that the music is beautiful. The production in Los Angeles was not as theatrical as the one in this video but, given the grim and rather hyper psychology--if it can be called that--of the piece, maybe this is not a bad thing. Turn off the sound and this video starts to resemble cheap soft porn film. It's a little embarassing. Again, while the music is attractive, it is doubtful whether there will be revivals called for.
bad production, but great music!!

It's also being presented in LA with a newly commissioned reduced orchestration that cuts the size of the orchestra by about 40%.

FABULOUS! What music this is. Such a theatrical opera. It's a crime this isn't done as often as Traviata.
