I'm just a little relieved that the steps toward free health care are coming. I think we'll be able to opt for private health care if we want.

socialism is not evil or bad as it is seen in our country. Socialism and communism are two totally different things. Many things are socialized today in our country. Education, mail service, libraries, and many more things.... in today's health care system 18,000 people die each year because they do not have health insurance and are not given health services for that or just cannot pay for it. Change has been long before owed and we cannot let this opportunity slip away for reform.

and he has already radically changed the lobbying system in Washington. He admitted himself on the campaign trail that simply firing the many lobbyists in Washington was not practical. He made a blanket statement to emphasize his attitude towards an issue; all politicians do this. He did change the policy so that no one could lobby the same issue for more than 2 years. A good start.

At least these bulbs come with a label for proper disposal, unlike batteries. The amounts of mercury are trace, less than in standard fluorescent bulbs found in your local grocery store. Meanwhile, we dump mercury in the sea at an alarming rate.

I've read a number of articles claiming to refute "man influenced climate change", which is the real issue. "Global warming" happens, so does "global cooling". We've drastically increased the rate of global warming trends on the Earth. The science proving the connection between CO2 concentration and global temperatures is rigorous,and thorough. "science" refuting this amounts to reading weather reports, though I wish it were otherwise.

There is no empirical evidence of the existence of a single group we can call the illuminati, but i am interested in the evidence and research into this, or these, secret groups...
conclusive global warming research was conducted in Antarctica by analyzing sheets of ice. It was a long and difficult process. I don't see any scientists refuting these findings as being NEARLY so thorough, and am betting that they are the ones being payed off. I could see the illuminati allying with coal and oil.

I have no doubt that fluoride is a potential hazard, i've been reading about it since you brought it up so much- it's hard to draw real conclusions when there are such disparate claims about its benefits/risks, and the fact that it naturally occurs in most water supplies, granted not at the level of concentration we have boosted it to.
But we can't shun one environmental problem just to focus on another. They are all issues, and should all be researched, examined, and dealt with.

A report in 1979 to congress after an eight year study concluded that there was "no measurable decrease in tooth decay"

Hmm. I dunno. Flouride treatments helped my teeth...I went for 8+ years without a cleaning and came in with 0 cavities. But that does not mean I want the stuff in my water....my dentist was surprised that fluoride worked for me, though. he said that, in most cases, the extra enamel can put the tooth at greater risk since decay can work its way down and sort of...incubate.

What about the fact that he is helping to restore America's reputation within the international community, has taken steps to start a dialogue with the Middle-East, closed the embarrassment to human rights that was Guantanamo Bay and provided a tax cut to 95% of Americans in a time of economic hardship...that seems pretty great to me, speaking as a humble European :)

That's not the issue, it's cost. Outside of taxes there should be no out of pocket cost for health care. Have a baby? pay nothing! Treatment for cancer? Pay nothing! In reality us citizens must carry the weight of the american medical world and it's insurance companies. With the system what it is not only do we have to pay for our health care through corrupt insurance companies but we pay 5 times as much as it cost the governments of other developed countries. You don't understand the issue.

We pay 5 times as much because there are leaches in the system.
The people who go to the emergency rooms without insurance and illegal aliens are the reason insurances make ther carriers charge bloated fees.
If you make healthcare free for everyone, you will DRAMATICALLY reduce the quality of the healtchare syste.

Then we turned to the state, and we can't get it even though we make LESS than the max income to qualify because we don't have kids. Would you just leave people like us uninsured? Would you simply prefer if we don't get any healthcare? How about this... Let's trade places and THEN talk about socialism.

Thank you, Mr. President. My husband has been laid off from his job for nearly a year, and the only job he's been able to find barely pays enough to make ends meet. As a result, we can't even afford the health insurance offered at his new job. We need healthcare, and it means a lot to us that you're working on a way to make that happen.

Quindal, are you saying that Australia is a socialist country? I have a friend that lives there, and she gets decent free health care. The doctors are paid. There aren't long lines. The taxes are a bit higher, but it's a compramise. The wealthier can choose private doctors. Yes, this would take time here because it's NEW and most new things take time. I'm just a little relieved that the steps toward free health care are coming. I think we'll be able to opt for private health care if we want.
