England spent centures trying to conquer Scotland, and finally succeeded. Did you know that Scottish people's native language is Gaelic, which is completely unintelligible to English speakers? Scotland was a different country with a totally different language. They also come from a completely different European tribe.

And just to add to that, the main Celtic language spoken in Scotland is correctly called Gaelic whereas its sister language in Ireland should only be called Irish (as all the books etc, are so labeled). :)

Furthermore, I remember a film about the culture of Nova Scotia I saw in sixth grade, and part of it talked about this cultural think the people do. They bang this long wooden thing, and they do a chant. As for language, it said they Chant in Gaelic, the language of their Scottish ancestors.

As a Scotsman myself, I can detect a very subtle inflection in her voice that has never been there before. It sounds a little like a mix between her Catherine Weaver inflection, and having a strained throat. It's noticable in a few of her words and sentances... I hope she doesn't Sheena Easton out on us!!!!

I think she's a long way from doing a Sheena "Hey y'all" or even a Murray. I'm Scottish and while Edinburgh accents sound quite different from Glaswegian, for example, which is more recognisable due to it's roughness, for want of a better word, the idea that her polite speech "has very little trace of a Scottish accent" is wrong. Although obviously it's to be expected that the timbre of her voice has a little American in it.
