I notice this thing is pneumatically operated, and it's continuously blowing bubbles out its mouth. Would it have to have its air canister replaced/recharged periodically through human intervention, or could it return to the surface and use a blowhole of sorts to pump in additional air as needed?
Is it possible to visit festo? Do you have expositions? I would really like to pay a visit some time.. I live in NL so I don't mind traveling to South Germany :)
you're missing the biger picture; this thing is dynamic using a ballast system, similar to a real fish, to rise and sink. it may not be as fluid as hollywood representations, but also keep in mind, those are made to do one thing: look realistic. this is made to simulate an bio-mechanical system.
Ok, that makes sense. I was going to say how most animatronics are connected to an umbilical cord of sorts (power, control, etc.), and that I wasn't sure how this was powered and controlled; which is where the genius of it lies.
Not simply Deep Blue Sea; animatronics in movies have been doing this for years, and they look more fluid too. (This is not discussing the other Festo creations).
@ManInBones01 - seriously, your reaction to this is "oh this was in a movie"?!? You realize that those were movies, and hence FAKE, and that this is REAL? I mean you do realize that nobody actually built a working cybernetic robot that looks like Arnold Schwarzenegger 20 years ago right? Jeez people, they're movies. Most of that stuff is Styrofoam foam and model airplane servos. And they look "more fluid" because of a little thing called special effects. Get a grip on reality will ya?
@ManInBones01 - really that's your answer? I didn't say that everything in movies is a computer image. In fact, I remember mentioning styrafoam and servos. Perhaps you should stop sucking on your mommas tits and learn to fucking read you infinite moron. And as for your robo-shark, that didn't even look convincing and has nothing to do with what Festo is doing. Which, asshole, was my fucking point.
"And they look 'more fluid' because of a little thing called special effects." There you are implying that the only reason they look more fluid is because of special effects. I do not see how the internal components, however impressive they may be, add to something's aesthetic, which, asshole, was MY fucking point. If you go back to where I said "and they look more fluid too," you'll see that I feel the robot shark and other animatronics LOOK more fluid; regardless of your opinion
@tomcat061973 Are you one of those dudes that think everything is computer generated cause your feeble mind cant understand whats going on. First I'd like you to crawl from under your rock, wrap yourself in celophane set a noose around your neck attach it to somewhere high , light yourself on fire near a cliff , trip over a rock and fall into a ravine with sharp and blunt rocks and utterly kill yourself you fucking twat...Thnx. You will not comply as it will take you five minutes to understand
@ManInBones01 technolgy has been implemented in movies for years. they are only implemented for what the masses can handle of course some of us can handle just about anything or at least able to understand the basics but some ppl are scared of this stuff. Been watching too much terminator and i robot. If we die now as we are about to take a leap into FTL then we dont deserve to live its as simple as that.
make sure you don't sell this tech too fuckin Israel

That's some cool technology. Though, I believe the tail isn't shaped right.....it's too big....
it looks as if it's too heavy and a fish's tail isn't solid like a fin we use to swim with, it is mostly flexible.

I like Festo, they supply great pneumatic components. This fish is awful though.

This is the least impressive specimen of their zoo. The shark moves in a much more life like fashion.

If the real thing won't do the trick, you better make an artificial version quick!

Yea this is cool, but Hollywood kind of beat them to this about 10 years ago. Deep Blue Sea anyone?

@ManInBones01 haha you're comparing this to deep blue sea? You can't serious....

@ManInBones01 You're completely missing the point. Animatronics have never done this. Read what mbolton2k9 said.

Believe it or not, not everything you see in a movie is a computer image.
And that wasn't my reaction, dip-shit.
