Reading Rainbow was a great show and a great concept. Try to get kids to read. One of the most important things a person can and should do. Reading Rainbow was the shit. Even though I watched it as a kid I never was a reader until recently and I am 25 years old. I did read the little kid books though when I was younger with all the pictures and pop ups in them. lol.

Reading Rainbow was so much more than just a show, IMO, not only was it books, it taught ya something new. I learned a lot from shows like these as a kid, and I'm an avid reader now, too boot. What's the point in knowing *how* to do something without having a reason as to *why* they should? I *know* how to do lots of stuff, but if I don't have a compelling reason to use what I know, chances are, I'm not going to use it. Knowing how to read =/= loving to read.

Reading Rainbow taught kids more than just why you should read, it taught important history, lessons, and it promoted imagination more than any other show I can think of.

If you don't instill a love of reading in a child at a young age, it becomes so much harder to get them interested at a later time.

Hmm, well I wouldn't say the internet is what's killing Reading Rainbow. These shows are aimed at an audience that shouldn't even be spending any superfluous amount of time on the internet, and especially without parent supervision. Not only is it dangerous, but it's very distracting for what they need to do (spending time outside, making sure their homework is done, etc.)

The same could be said about TV though...

Also, I wasn't ranting, I was just giving my opinion.

@snaredrums123 Good point. All I have is my kid as a base line. Since she was about 3, she would spend time on Noggin, Disney and a couple of other children based websites rather than watching tv. She's 9 now and she does most of her reading, math and history on school directed websites. She's has gained a lot more from the internet that could ever be possible from the old tv shows I used to watch. Just about all children programming have a footprint on the net, lots of kids prefers the net.

Even if they don't produce any new episodes how about reruns from the past 25 years? You can't tell me kids don't read any of the books that were featured on the show anymore.
