Reading Rainbow was a great show and a great concept. Try to get kids to read. One of the most important things a person can and should do. Reading Rainbow was the shit. Even though I watched it as a kid I never was a reader until recently and I am 25 years old. I did read the little kid books though when I was younger with all the pictures and pop ups in them. lol.
I have a new respect for Adam. I had no idea he worked so hard and had enough time to learn of Rule 34. I wouldn't doubt it if he were an oldfag, really.
This is entirely sad. I used to look forward to watching this show during my library classes in grade school. I wish it didn't have to go off air.....
that faggot with the spikey hair needs punched in the face and needs to have his sack sewed back on hints the "BIG BLOW" tree hugging, rainbow loving, faggot
Man it been a long time, since i heard the song and catch an old show of reading rainbow.. society think why kid are getting stupider in life.. this is one reason why the youth are getting hook to drugs and gangs..
Adam Savage is just awesome. The other dudes, especially the blond guy, are just plain annoying. I remember watching some horrible wow-show on wowhead where the blond dude was the leader. And it was just plain sad how bad they were AND getting paid for it. :X
I love how Adam is the only one who actually looks the other guys in the face as they talk and as he talks while they just stare at the monitors the whole time.
Reading Rainbow was so much more than just a show, IMO, not only was it books, it taught ya something new. I learned a lot from shows like these as a kid, and I'm an avid reader now, too boot. What's the point in knowing *how* to do something without having a reason as to *why* they should? I *know* how to do lots of stuff, but if I don't have a compelling reason to use what I know, chances are, I'm not going to use it. Knowing how to read =/= loving to read.
It's not a matter of a reason to read anymore, the internet has done a lot to make the world hugely written word oriented. You NEED to be able to read now.
I loved Reading Rainbow as a kid. It's so sad they can't find anyone to support them. Oh well, kids don't need to learn new things, just keep em good little soldiers, who never think for themselves. Pricks.
It IS sad that Reading Rainbow is cancelled - it was my favorite PBS show. Lavar Burton was awesome - what a great guy to do it with enthusiasm for 26 years!! Kids today are too hooked on technology, and need more shows to show them the value of reading books.
Reading Rainbow taught kids more than just why you should read, it taught important history, lessons, and it promoted imagination more than any other show I can think of.
If you don't instill a love of reading in a child at a young age, it becomes so much harder to get them interested at a later time.
@snaredrums123 Ironic how this rant is on the internet, youtube none other, the very thing that is killing shows like reading raibow. My 9 year old will not watch educational programming on tv but will spend a lot of time watching it on youtube. If you ask me, and no one did, let those shows die and be replaced by the internet, thats the bed we made and we gotta lay in it now.
Hmm, well I wouldn't say the internet is what's killing Reading Rainbow. These shows are aimed at an audience that shouldn't even be spending any superfluous amount of time on the internet, and especially without parent supervision. Not only is it dangerous, but it's very distracting for what they need to do (spending time outside, making sure their homework is done, etc.)
The same could be said about TV though...
Also, I wasn't ranting, I was just giving my opinion.
@snaredrums123 Good point. All I have is my kid as a base line. Since she was about 3, she would spend time on Noggin, Disney and a couple of other children based websites rather than watching tv. She's 9 now and she does most of her reading, math and history on school directed websites. She's has gained a lot more from the internet that could ever be possible from the old tv shows I used to watch. Just about all children programming have a footprint on the net, lots of kids prefers the net.
I know!!! Have you seend the crap ass Saturday morning line ups these days???? OMG! The best you can find out of all of it is like Sponge Bob and even that seems like it's getting phased out.
The problem with favoring teaching kids "how" to do something rather than "why" to do something is assbackwards. They could be the best readers on planet Earth, and if they dont know WHY they should be reading, the pleasure it brings, or the chance for self improvement it offers, they wont bother to do it.
Man I grew up with Reading Rainbow. I also grew up with He-Man, GI Joe, Thundercats, Ninja Turtles, Transformers etc. Now kids have Barney, Teletubbies, Dora and other retarded faggotry. No wonder kids now are fucked up beyond hope.
this sucks. im 14 and i wanted to watch the show i grew up with. all the new shows teach kids is that if you tell a thief "no swiping", they say "aww man," snap their fingers, and walk away. COME ON! i distinctly remember hearing a song on one of the shows saying "theres a party in my tummy, theres a party in my tummy" and then the character got lectured by talking food then ate vegetables. WHAT THE F--K ARE WE SHOWING OUR KIDS, AMERICA?!?!?! anyways, i agree with TheReasonWhyGuy.
Even if they don't produce any new episodes how about reruns from the past 25 years? You can't tell me kids don't read any of the books that were featured on the show anymore. They can't all be out of print. I've been getting my hands on books I grew up with to share with my nephew and nieces for years. Seeing the crap on PBS now I think CPB should be investigated for RICO.
