Having watched the 1970 and both 1974 election coverages, I'd venture that the rudeness of interrupting the returning officers by heckling (rather than cheering) only really took off in 1979. Winter of Discontent or not, it is a distinct lack of manners to do so.

C hold Upminster was the first good general indication of what was to come.
Only two candidates in Salford East - 1979 was the last election where there were just Labour and Tory candidates in some seats.
