  • The King Cinema in Seattle 1980, "FAME" in 70mm and 6-track Dolby Stereo! Priceless!!!

  • I wish that I was up there sanging my lil heart out with them!

  • fame is immence x

  • I am the only one who think the girl at 2:25 completely kills the whole thing?

i mean, she doesn't even have a good voice, i always skip that part.

    -___-

  • @leonajonasx3 i like it =)

  • I don't watch Glee but I'm grateful to it for introducing the songs I know and love from the 1970s and 1980s to a surprisingly large number of under 25 year olds who had never heard them before. Even if I don't like the Glee version it makes me feel relieved that all of these young people who are unaware of what I consider "The Classics" are learning them through the show.

  • This would be perfect for them to sing on Glee. Wonder if they will?

  • @clemdane Don't even go there. Fame is original. Glee copies songs from artists. Glee sucks Donkey Rhino ass and is so unoriginal it is not funny. They ruin all good songs out there. Fame deserves to stay where it is and is great on it's own. Even the remake (Which they tried) didn't par up to it, but don't ever compare it to Glee, EVER! Glee will never be Fame.

  • I alway get goose bumps hearing this song...

  • It's hard to believe that Montgomery becomes the evil Dr Romano in ER isn't it ? Great actor by the way !

  • at 4:03 looks like the chick from glee

  • this song gives me chills all along my back!

  • Sampled in LL Cool J - 10 Million Stars

  • This was one of the best scenes in the whole movie....An awesome song...Thank you so much for the posting.

  • Saudades..vi este filkme em 1981, tinha 17 anols, e marcou-me muito a vida em varios aspectos, principalmente no sexual..

  • I like dis video ever since da first time i saw it. Our music teacher is in da video

  • I like dis video ever since da first time i saw it. Our music teacher is in da video

  • ALAN PARKER!

  • hermosa cancion

  • Irene Cara should have been a bigger star!

  • @iw32 I totally agree with you. I grew up during the 70-80's and I remember when this came out. We sang so many songs from FAME.A few years ago I decided to look up Irene Cara and I cant confirm this but I remember hearing that she was Blacklisted from recording. The reasons for it.. I dont know but I DO know that today she is releasing stuff independently and is mentoring a group of singers called HOT CARAMEL (I believe)

  • awesome! thanks for sharing this....

  • The best thing about this finale is it maintained the grittiness of the movie and the arts in general. No huge showy, glossy number. They were real, and it showed their success yet how unglamorous their pursuit was actually going to be. The stage is minor compared to what goes on behind it. Perfect.

  • Isso é genial...é fantástico!!!

  • I remember singing this song for my fifth grade gradutation!

  • Oh God, this made chills run up and down my body. The BEST version EVA!!!!!!!!!!! I haven't seen the new movie, but it CANNOT beat this!

  • I agree with theRENThead. I wish i had a song like this at my graduation. It would be cool to see a graduating class redo this song.

  • I love Montgomery's voice ! <3

  • dont tell me the big black girl doenst look like Glee's whats her name Amber....

Cant be the girl because this is the 80s right?

I m sure is her mum!!!!

  • @TheLatinMrsPeel Um no. They dont look anything alike XD

  • @TheLatinMrsPeel um no that doesnt look like her at all XD

  • Fantastic!!!

  • The BEST graduation ever....

  • lol, omg, this was such a great movie! lmao.

  • The movie is great. I first watched it when I was 11, and I absolutely loved it. The soundtrack generally fantastic, and this song in particular is phenomenal. I love the combination of classical and modern sounds, and it's so uplifting. If this song doesn't inspire you, check your pulse.

  • I love this! i sing it in one of my videos! =] check it out =] enjoy

  • first time I've ever heard rock, r&b, classical, and pop in the SAME SONG! Simply magnificent!!! ;-)

  • God i hated the remake. none of my aunts or uncles took there kids to see it because they new how much id bitch about it LOL

  • omg.. i melted

  • why wasnt my graduation like this

  • This song gets me hyped..I love dance and I love any scholl for the performing arts

  • WOW!!! goosebumps...amazing!

  • it's really hard to believe that this movie is 30 years old!!! I was 11 when the movie came out and it was and still is one of my all time favorite movies

  • I want to like it over and over again..

  • well we have to admit that originals are always the best, and so no surprises this is so much better than the new film

  • i watched d remake 1st after watching d original, all i can say is that NO ONE @ all would top this version!

  • im 13, and i've loved this version for as long as i can remember :) stuff the new one, original fame with good ol' irene forever! :D

  • i really love this song eversince

it reminds of my high school days

and it also reminds me of my favorite teacher

    lol.

  • what a celebration of ART!

  • I'm in a mainstage production of fame, and this song is so moving singing it together with the cast.

  • why cant films be like this now?? the new fame is so horrible, polished to death. there is more reality in a single extra from this movie than the whole of that new mess

  • LOVE THIS MOVIE

  • How cool is this ?

A masterpiece of this sort can never be topped !

  • I love this original version! It brings back the good memories!

  • only gripe - the soloists narrating their singing with their heads!

  • at 4:23, the black girl who sings "back on Mars" looks to me like Kelly Rowland....

  • @nikisoaradot Lol the black girl .. Irene Cara .. And ye she does.

  • i think what this directors need to do is stop remakin all these good movies like fame krate kid christina and love dont cost a thing because they remake it to fit todays world and todays world is nutin but peas and bacon and i really mad they remade E.T and replaced all the guns in the cops hand with walkie talkies SO STOP FAME WAS GOOD

  • you will never top the original fame!

  • @nancyboysnz maybe for some aspects, but i prefer the movie to most of the original fame series stuff. =D

  • Well, in general I don't like this kind of movies, beside that American films are always dubbed in Italy, and very badly.

  • Hard to believe they wasted time trying to remake this MASTERPIECE

  • This is the America I like and will defend until death.

  • Cool song, but didn't anyone in that school teach phrasing??? You just can't breathe whenever you want when you're singing!

  • I never watched "Fame" because I didn't like it, but this is really a wonderful song.

  • @Michele640

    If you didn't watch it....how do u know u didn't like it?

  • He's GINGER ;D

  • DANG this is a sick song were doing this for our graduation song

  • HEll yeah nigs

  • @Ookamibito

I think it's a poem by Walt Whitman.

  • @acotw67 you are correct

  • this is so beautiful! It gives me chills. I wish my highschool graduation was like this. I went to a performing arts school.

  • Who is the first person to sing? The girl?

    Is it Lisa?

Just it looks a bit like her and it's deffo not Doris...

Can someone please tell me? Thnx.

  • @HorseyBabe12 It is indeed Lisa! Looks like she found something she was good at afterall :-)

  • i love the song and we sing it in the scholl choir. :)

  • new youtube design suks!!!!!

    great song thx

  • Que puedo decir de esta JOYA de los ochentas que tras el exito se realizo la serie de television es insuperable esta version que quedo grabada para toda la eternidad

  • i really love fame , this vid made me almost cry

  • The original and the best, gives me goosebumps everytime I hear this piece.

  • This scene STILL puts a lump in my throat!

  • LOL! this song was in juniper lee

  • This movie changed my life. Brown 80s. Rest in peace Gene Anthony Ray. Why is there a need for remake?

  • @DoeAmal Because Hollywood feels that people WANT to see remakes and that it's cheaper to do a remake than create something new. There are just some films out there that don't NEED a remake (Psycho was the perfect example.). And with the latest advances of CGI and the rising popularity of 3-D, they want to "improve" on the original (Clash of The Titans being the most recent example).

They shouldn't have remade "Fame." It was perfect as it was and didn't need a "reboot."

  • One of the men from the chorus is my music teacher :] he showed me this vid at skool. I was like " damnnnn " . You should see him now -.- bald but still sings awesome :] his name is Daryl Ware :]

  • The guy playing violin at 5:10 looks like John Cusack. This movie was about three years before his first film. He would have had to been like 15 when it was filmed.

  • Fame (1980) FTW!

  • I love when they break it down at 4:18 and the mom at 4:35 like yea !!

  • @kiap44

    Haha! Me, too :)

  • this song brings back college memories of Expressions 1983 at Ohio Valley College.

  • I used to rush home from school to watch Fame. This is Straight up Classic!

  • we sing this in our faundation day we all like this song

  • Fame lief auch als Serie im ARD Anfang der 80er Jahre. Ich habe diese Serie geliebt. Warum kann man die Folgen nicht auf DV bekommen? Sehr schade!!!!

  • I remember that song.

That song was used as a theme song to Body Electric, a morning workout show on PBS, hosted by Margaret Richard.

  • I think the 1st fame, the students really looked like students! Not polished actors performing "Fame"!

  • @4shys2 well they were real students from that actual academy for the the 1st fame. they shot on school grounds. the new fame is full of actors who get home schooled

  • @4shys2

They actually were fame students from a FAME school

that was the whole point of the movie

i think thats what makes it so special :)

  • i'm 15 and just watched this version on Fame...and i loved it...it's so much better then the remake

  • I know...

  • @KittKattTV this version? i agree its 100% better, but its not a version. its the original. thats 2 very different things

  • @KittKattTV why do fools always add how old they are especially teenagers whats the purpose about bragging ohh look at me im so young and it still touched me srsly wtf

  • @KittKattTV so much better!!!

  • @KittKattTV

AMEN to that kid. I was twelve when this fame came out in theaters in 1978 and it totally beats the new one

  • @cinfish15 Damn straight. My dad made me listen to all these old Broadway musicals, like A Chorus Line and Company and I LOVE THEM ALL! Ah haha he told me the other day that he finally found a music buddy. xD

  • @KittKattTV I'm 15 too! But I watched this a couple years ago and fell in love with it(Especially Montgomery MacNeil!<3)! I refuse to watch the remake. I think it will totally ruin it.

  • For me...I was a very young adult. I had been in NYC for about 2 years, and in my early twenties, I already felt my dreams had been dashed. I was like the hot shot kid in the film who had graduated and was now a waiter. When I first heard "Body Electric" it was a born again experience for me reclaiming the enthusiasm I thought I had lost.

  • I remember watching this as a preteen girl and dreaming of being on Broadway. Now my daughters and son have attended elementary school of the arts, middle school of the arts, and hopefully the high school of the arts!!! I love this movie it showcases some incredibly talented kids.

  • Good luck to them! Congrats!

  • oh wow!!!...FAME!!!...i played Coco in our high school musical 2 years ago!!...GOOD TIMES!!:-))

  • those were the days

  • I think it's a requirement for all public school 5th graders to sing this at their "graduations".

Brought back so many memories hahaha!

  • @ladiebug395

not for me were singin dis for choris in 6th i remember but not graduation

  • wow brings back memores i cant belive i sang this song for my 5th grade graduation

  • GOD I remember......... like it was yesterday!!!

    now it's my children;s time..

  • i sang this for my six grade graduuation and ill never forget the wordss

  • Why i didn´t got any talent ? :(

  • Touching, Amazing, Graceful, Exhilarating, Powerful !

No movie today can touch this.

FAME is truly one of a kind !

  • Just super!

  • exactly

  • the choreography of the ballet scene here should really be appreciated. I hate dancing when we do big convoluted groups like that haha I'm always afraid I'm going to kick someone

  • Totally heartbreaking, in the good way.

    AMAZING

    Thank you.

  • this will always be my favorite musical. i watched the remake today...it was HORRIBLE!

  • Great movie!

  • paul mcCrane was o cute when h was in this movie and in his teens he sings good realy great

  • we have a skool concert in may and we have to sing it... i might get solo

  • This has all the passion that the new FAME is lacking....

  • WAAAH!!! We will perform FAME musical play in our school this coming tuesday.. . whoa! this song makes us cry, , ^^

  • Splendido mix di classico e moderno. Un pezzo indimenticabile.

  • The one and only!

  • glee sucks balls, there's no comparison

  • Glee was made almost 30 years after this. Fame's better, get over it.

  • Glee is great, and I'm a Gleek definitely, but we do have Fame to thank for new stuff like Glee. At least Glee is like the modern Fame, it sure beats the actual Fame redo.

  • I Hav 2 sing this song 4 a concert!! :D :(

  • Amazing! Let's see if "Glee" will be better...

  • sing it!

lol hey... am i crazy or is the red haired male, the same guy who plays the villain who is melted by toxic waste in Robocop? good song

  • It is indeed Paul McCrane. He went on from playing the gay part in this movie to playing the gay part in "The Hotel New Hampshire" . Along the way he ended up in Robocop and he was a copper in "The Blob". He was of course last seen in 24 as Jacks brother.

  • yea, i remember him in Blob.

good eye. i always get a kick out of seeing actors being younger than when i was first saw them.

  • And on ER as the doctor who's arm was ripped off by the helicopter

  • not as far as I know - it is Paul McCrane who went onto ER I think

  • you didnt see robocop did you? im sure if you did, you'd know wexactly what im saying.

  • An incredible ending to an inspiring film. That was my generation!!

  • Another brilliant Alan Parker film. I enjoyed the series too, but the energy in this film is remarkable.

  • "And I'll Look back on Venus

    (I'll look back on vanity)

    I'll look back on Mars

    (Ill at this path)

    I'll burn with the fire

    (burn)

    Of 10 million stars

    (fire inside)..."

My absolute favourite part of the song! Awesome stuff this movie was...

  • My friend loves the new Fame and hates the old one.

I mean, people can have their opinions, but really! The old Fame is SO much better, it's not even a comparison.

  • @cora1214

yeah. the old fame surpasses the new one.

  • I've been looking for any song singed by Eric Brockington or the girl (the part "And I'll serenade venus...we will all be stars") and ? couldn't find anything. They have wonderful voices.

  • Doe you know irene cara? she didn't sing a lot of songs

  • Irene Cara is a great singer. I think everybody knows her because of Fame theme and Flashdance (What a feeling). But these two singers only appear in this song (and in the film) and they have amazing voices

  • I know, I looked it up on wikipedia. She has a beautiful voice, but didn't do much with it

  • Irene Cara is one of the most important character in the movie! We see her all the time! But you're right for the other singer ;-)

  • Yep, it is! Laura Dean later appeared in "Friends" as Sophie, the assistant who Rachel's boss Joanna constantly insulted. Sophie: "I bought you a macaroon" Joanna: "Oh thanks, you can just put it in my butt with your nose!" (or something very similar) Hilarious!

  • that first girl's voice is as clear as a bell

  • I personally think this is a pretty good song. The first girl singing and the first guy singing are my favorites.

  • the entire song is beautiful isnt it?

  • we r singing this hot lunch jam and fame i wanna live forever in choir

  • Yea the red headed guy is the guy that played dr. romano...crazy huh! this is such a moving and intense song...you're right, the new fame didn't begin to capture the original. I feel priveleged to say I was 5 when I heard this song and saw the movie and it moved me like no other. I went on to Interlochen and Juilliard because of this movie. Just fantastic.

  • i hate the new fame. what angers me most is no one knows there is another fame. one from 1980. the new one can't hold a candle to the original. yes the original is perfect. not only that but most of the student in the movie were real students that was a real school. its amazing.

  • one of the best movies ever. and i have not seen the new one but doubt it can hold a candle to the origional. I've seen clips and it doesn't have the same depth as the origional

  • The guy at 0:06 and again at 0:10 is that the guy that went on to play Dr. Romano on ER.

  • This is Paul McCrane, who died when a helicopter fell on him(because he was so evil, apparently). On ER. I have no idea what he is doing in "real life", but he's still alive.

  • Wow! What a nice catch!!! I couldn't figure out why he looked so familiar both here and on ER!

  • Thank you for the nice comment.

  • were singing this in chior!!

  • we used to sing this one too in our choir!!! :D

  • this chokes me up

  • Love this movie!! I can't wait until my class and the two other 10th grades are going to perform Fame the musical!! Love it!!!!

  • Saw the new version and..... I knew it was going to be a teen movie. The original was a serious and R rated movie, but the beauty of it can be summerised in this final scene. The way it's shot, the music, the performances.... even the dancers look way better... Mind you.... they never looked like high school students to me. The excitement and the emotions 'The Body Electric' creates are far greater than the new movie, which seems to be....totally artificial and flat.

  • Beautiful Laura Dean. She is still beautiful today

  • awesome video and song!

  • Paul Crane is cute here lol.....its a shame they limited the dancers with such a small stage in the final scene

  • the gay ginger is the best

he is so cute i could marry him :)

  • Yesterday I saw the movie and after I finished I watched it again. It is so interesting that a movie released in the eighties is so relevant (or even more) - just look at all these casting shows.
