In a dogfight if used by a competent pilot they are a match to anything. In BVR different story. a lot depends on radar detection. fire control system is from Israel so i don't know much about them.

Its Meteor BVRAAM is explicitly designed to be fired from a longer range than the AA-12. The ASRAAM has a lock-on after launch capability, so the MKI's maneuverability will need to contend with THAT, giving shorter reaction time. But it's so close. I hope that the MKI and the Typhoon never have to fight each other.

F-18s do not have the same capabilities as the MiG-35, friend. I have personally been at the last air show as my wingman was the one who flew this beauty alongside the Russian pilot. I can say that it is superior to the F/A-18s. MiG-35 is not the same as MiG-29 or MiG-21. Airframe might be similar but it has far more capabilities than what the USA is offering us--an outdated aircraft that is now being phased out of their own air force. Not to forget the potential strings attached to the deal.

The ASRAAM has a lock-on after launch capability, so the MKI's maneuverability will need to contend with THAT, giving shorter reaction time. But it's so close. I hope that the MKI and the Typhoon never have to fight each other.

Fair enough. You think so. I read in a fair few books, unfortunately they are overeas, German pilots who flown agiainst Israeli pilots have had pretty much equal success on identical platforms. They both used German MiG-29 1 on 1 and then F-15/16 1 on 1. And had consistent results which saw them balance with similar results.

We have HAL Tejas for that. Don't worr. Tejas has been remodified 11 times since 1983 and right now its a state of the art fighter jet. All we need is a powerful engine. 90% composite materials, open end architecture, full glass cockpit, AESA radars and second tranche having TVC and supercruise.
I myself as a pilot don't think we would need to rely on the Gripen for this.

India needs to replace mig 29 with FA18 Super Hornets. Buying Mig 35 was a waste of money. SU30 all good but MIG 29 needs to go. FA18 Super Hornets will bring fear to the Chinese.

F-18s do not have the same capabilities as the MiG-35, friend. I have personally been at the last air show as my wingman was the one who flew this beauty alongside the Russian pilot. I can say that it is superior to the F/A-18s. MiG-35 is not the same as MiG-29 or MiG-21. Airframe might be similar but it has far more capabilities than what the USA is offering us--an outdated aircraft that is now being phased out of their own air force. Not to forget the potential strings attached to the deal.

MiG-29's are designed as interceptors; specialised in finding and destroying enemy aircraft. MiG-29's can carry bombs, however considering the high maneuverability requirements of their role, there has to be a compromise on some factors: powerful engines consume more fuel and hence limit range, and the need to keep weight low limits their payload. The F-16 is designed as a multi-role plane, hence can carry heavy bombs. However it cannot match a MiG-29 in a fight; the F-15 better suited for this.

Yes, but you got to understand that IAF makes more sorties than USAF. Crashes happen. On the positive side, IAF performed not only performed well against every cope exercise against but also has won wars for India. If you are in the armed forces, there is only a thin line between life and death, both in peace and war times.

Wish I could see this whole documentary. The first time I saw the IAF Mig 29 was in 1988. It looked like a lethal bird with its nose pointing down with a high canopy to oversee all around it.
