@falutak Well getting them on LSD and continually reinacting the crucifixion until they thought he was the son of god and being the fact that they are easily swayed to start with in the emotional state they came to him in, I don't think it would be too hard to convince them to kill for him.
His angle was to get them to ignore what they personally thought and listen to whatever he said. I think he chose people who could be easily programmed.

Manson didn't incite the murders directly. Charles 'Tex' Watson urged the others to kill with him, because he wanted to lead the cult instead. When the Family came back and told Manson what they had done inspired by his preaching it was too late to back down if he was to maintain the faith of his followers.
Technically he should not be in prison for murder seeing as he didn't actually kill anyone with his own hands.
This 'scale of evil' is bogus. Evil is a moral/religious concept, not criminal.

Those people claimed that they were doing what they did in the name of Christ, but they were really just using that as an excuse to make what they were doing look legitimately good. They were really just murderers who would have used the name of Ra or Allah to excuse what they were doing if those were the main religions of the time. But Jesus Himself never wanted anyone to be killed. He came to save the world not condemn it.
