live mealworms are available at pet shops as nutritious food for birds, reptiles, fish etc.

they feed on bran (not bread) in the container.

i think they can eat bread, too. :D

たまにカッチカチに干からびたような幼虫が混じっていて、死んだ­と思って捨てたりしてたんですが...

はい、蛹になる前に動かない状態になります。

中にはそのまま黒くなって死んでしまうものもありますが。。
